but yea frankly so diluted that I don't think I'd care. But maybe if it's preceded by a decade of europa league failures like from this season.

Well it is clearly a ploy to get to lower 30 or so associations deep into European competition, but if you're going to do that why then allow so many teams from the top leagues to enter.
It is just going to end up with 12/32 group stage teams being from the top 10 or so leagues and all of those will go to the playoffs.
And considering how little interest there is right now in EL rights, how is that gonna work out with that.

Maybe they'll fine him a bit or something, but it would seem a horrid PR move to significantly punish him for passionately celebrating a derby winning goal at 96 minutes with no ill intend. I hope there's some leeway in the rule book on that particular rule.

only way teams/supporters care is if it somehow comes with a significant amount of money. (say, half of europa league 1 would be really motivating for most non-premier league teams likely to qualify for this tourney.)
That's a big part of why teams care about the europa league, anyway. And then after teams started caring, then the prestige level also increased.

Seems Ralph Hasenhuttl is going to be the next Southampton boss. Interesting choice, at least they should play decent football that they like down their. Hopefully he can get some use out of their good academy players too.
