According to sources, Sarri sought him out and really wanted him, even discussed him with Pepe Reina who also convinced Kepa to go work with Sarri and also confirmed to Sarri that he is a fantastic keeper.

Good guy Reina :D

Meanwhile italian lower tiers are still a mess. Historical teams like Cesena, Modena, Bari, Avellino and Akragas dropping left and right. Bari will actually start from Serie D, they've been bought by De Laurentiis maybe he wants a Napoli B since Juventus got their B team added to Serie C. Serie B might be starting with 20 teams instead of 22. The female Serie A and B might not be starting at all since the players are on strike because the Lega Dilettanti still want to run those two championships (the female footballers of course are tired of being considered only amateurs and are aiming at a pro status).

It's past august and we still don't know anything yet holy shit.
I used to organize tournaments for ESL Italy and referee Go4SC2s, WCSs, and IEMs for ESL SC2.

Stupid. How would the EPL allow this in a reverse almost that ManC with NYCFC.

D.C. United finalized changes to its investment group Tuesday, identifying six American stakeholders in British soccer club Swansea City and one other U.S. businessman to finance the MLS organization.

Jason Levien, who has been involved with United since 2012, will serve as chief executive officer. He will continue to control United’s voting shares in the league and remain the face of the club’s business operations, the team announced.

As previously reported, Levien this summer bought out United’s primary investor, Indonesia’s Erick Thohir, and teamed with Steve Kaplan to form controlling interest in United. Levien and Kaplan are majority shareholders in Swansea City and former colleagues in the ownership of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.

Thohir had considered retaining a small share in the MLS team but decided to divest completely.

“Erick’s unwavering support led to us achieving what many thought was impossible — the building of a new home for D.C. United,” Levien said in citing $400 million Audi Field in Southwest Washington. “I will forever be grateful for his friendship and commitment to this project.”

Thohir — and, to a smaller extent, Levien — raised $250 million to build the 20,000-seat stadium. (The city covered the balance, for the purpose of land acquisition and infrastructure costs.)

Financial details of United’s ownership shift were not disclosed. Last year, Forbes valued United at $230 million, a figure that, in anticipation of Audi Field’s opening last month, grew 48 percent since 2016.

The deal came several weeks after talks between Levien and Patrick Soon-Shiong closed without an agreement for the Los Angeles billionaire to become a prominent figure in United’s ownership.

Aside from Kaplan, the other new investors are Al Tylis, a former real estate executive from New York; Ed Shapiro, who operated a hedge-fund firm in Boston; Robert Hernreich, a former owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and MLB’s Texas Rangers, among other sports franchises; Romie Chaudhari, a real estate executive from Los Angeles; and Dan Gilbert, who used to work with Tylis at Northstar Inc.

Hernreich and Levien have known one another since both were involved with the Kings; Levien was general counsel and assistant general manager in 2009-10.

Levien and Kaplan’s ties also include ventures in esports and technology projects.

After Levien and Kaplan, Tylis and Shapiro will have the next-largest stakes in the team.

Gilbert is the only one not involved with Swansea City, which fell out of the Premier League this past spring and is competing in the second-tier English Championship this season.

Kaplan, co-founder of Oaktree Capital Management, is vice chairman of the Grizzlies, though he is expected to accept a buyout offer from majority owner Robert Pera. In anticipation of a deal, Kaplan and Tylis attended United’s July 25 home match against the New York Red Bulls.

MLS’s board of governors last week approved United’s restructured investment group.

Minnesota United just sold the club hero who was affectionately known as superman for a million to lafc. Absolutely gutted he was the bright spot for a team in chaos this decade that just arrived in the promised land.

No one suffers more then Minnesota sports fans.

Honestly I'm not too broken up about it. I think with recent additions our offense is fine. The problem is that management has completely ignored our defense, which is absolutely awful.

Kepa was Real Madrid original target, everyone at Real Madrid wanted him and they had his buyout paid in January for €35million but Zidane refused him because he prefered Navas.

After that, Bilbao made him sign the same contract he was on but for a bigger buy out at €80million. Guy is a great keeper and is 23, he has best or second best passing (long ball and short passes) of any keeper in La Liga and also is great. Sarri wanted him after talking with Pepe Reina about him who in turn spoke to Kepa and told him he must go work with Sarri and that England is a great place to play.

Rest is history.

Now of course that fee is very high, but in "net terms" we have spent £36million in replacing Tibo and getting Kepa in, so the inflated figure is not that bad. Compared to say Scouse who replaced Danny Ward at £12million with £67million Allison a net spend of £55million.

Pande: Liverpool sucks, look how much they spent and still no titles.
Everyone else: But their net expenses are really low for PL standards.
Pande: Nobody cares about net expenses, so much spent, lalalala.
---
Everyone else: lol, they bought Kepa for 80M, even more than Allison.
Pande: BUT THEY NETSPEND SO MUCH LESS THAN POOL!

And lets ignore the fact that the upgrade from Ward->Allison is gigantic, while it is rather questionable if Courtois->Kepa is an upgrade at all.

It isn't an upgrade but it isn't that much of a downgrade, but i was just putting net spending on it as saying we spent £71million on a keeper whilst "true" is not what Chelsea have done is it, we replaced our no1 keeper with a new no1 keeper for £36million.

We bought his buyout clause which was huge because Bilbao are fucking smart.

Scouse spent huge money on a keeper without an outgoing until they sold Ward, for not much.

If we want to talk money vs trophies we can next as we spent less than palace since 2012 and have 3 prem trophies in the bag.

Don't get your point, we spent shit loads fee for a keeper to replace a keeper which just made us £35million so it nets us a -£36million fee.

When Scouse bought Allison they did not have a sale in place so why would i mention anything else. Also at that time club where confident Tibo was staying

Point1: You preached for pages that net expenses are not worth looking at, just because it fit your usual "Liverpool so bad, hahaha".

Suddenly you completely flip around and only talk about net expenses, because otherwise Chelsea would look like fools.

Point2:
In the end the summary of the events is:

Liverpool had no good goalie -> solved the issue and spent massively on a good one

Now some people believe that the price was okay given the recent price inflation, some say that GK shouldn't be worth that much. Whatever, thats a different discussion. They also threw away their worthless depth goalie afterwards.

Then Chelsea sold their world class goalie for peanuts > Panic bought a good goalie, spent similar to Liverpool.

So both teams bought a good goalie for comparable money. Not much difference here. And if I were to choose who did better between the club giving away Courtois for 35M or the club giving away Ward for 12M.... Yeah I know which team I would pick. But somehow in your world Liverpool did completely awful while Chelsea did okay.

peanuts lol, <12 months left on deal, that values him around £105million if he was on a 3 year deal.

How is the net spend comparable money, they spent over £60million on a keeper they needed yes, we also spent £36million on a keeper we needed which our manager made his number 1 target after he knew Tibo was leaving which was Sunday/Monday remember.

But sure, Liverpool did great business this year but they are also by far the highest spenders this window.

@mahrgell
I don't think you realized but Pandemona is always right and you are wrong. (notice the sarcasm)

I'll be sincere now. Liverpool had a weak back 6 and they did well to improve it with a GK, a CB and what I consider a DM but most people consider a B2B midfielder. Yes, they probably overspent on every single one of these transfers, but they needed it and are IMHO better off. Do they have the depth to compete on all 4 fronts though? I don't think so. Do they have the squad to be able to mitigate the loss of Salah or VD, honestly I don't think so. However, they are still better off and as long as the board have confidence in the manager, this influx of money will continue.

Chelsea on the other hand are losing a very good GK and replaced it with one that's not proven in the PL but seems capable at a higher price. They are in a rebuilding phase and are just desperate to hold their players right now. They are not in a strong position. They need to push off advances from PSG Madrid and probably other top clubs for their main assets (Hazard, Willian and Kante) and might lose Hazard on a free if they are not careful.

Chelsea also have a big problem with their manager (they had to pay to sack the previous one I'm sure) who only had the team for 1-2 weeks only. I will be surprised if they play well for the first month of the league. It takes time to adjust to a new manager. But Sarri is smart, he'll probably play a classic counter attack and ride it off until he gets his hand on the team.

Also, I'm pretty sure the manager knew he would be losing courtois if not unofficially before signing his contract. I mean, come on and it's not even Sarri that does the transfers anyways. He might demand something but at the end of the day, the call doesn't go to him whether he likes it or not. (proof is with the previous 2 managers)

Yes i am right in this situation of who spent more and justifiable money. We had to sell our top goalkeeper because he wants to go back to Madrid for his kids, we get Kovacic and £35million for him...then Kepa comes in...net money...

What is hard to understand?

When you mention Van Dijk to scouse for £80 million they say "cost us nothing we used coutinho money" when i say that i am accused of being wrong 0.o

How is Allison a proven goalkeeper in premier league he is in same boat as Kepa.

Eh this double standard is nothing.
Just wait a few games until Pande explains to all of you how he always thought parking the bus was shit and dishonorable while only possession based attacking footy with 3 million midfield passes is true footy.

It's true that we panic bought, probably paid too much. But at least its someone highly rated. I'm fine with it. Better than spending 30+m on an average English player like Drinkwater. That's a waste of money.

I see no shame in spending the money. At least it's not pep or PSG level of disgusting. We used to be like that too, but now we've somewhat stopped, relying on sales to lower the net spend.

Need to YouTube kovacic to judge him. I'm hoping for a technically good cm to give our midfield more control.

Also why's no one going for Ben arfa. Guy sulks and is toxic when he is a squad player. But when he is first team, he delivers and is good enough. Why not sign him.
