I wouldn't argue with stats, that's what the Golden Boot is for, Messi is singlehandedly carrying a team which isn't all that great in a way that is absolutely mesmerizing. He isn't playing in the single most expensive all-star team that the game has to offer.

And yea from what I've seen, Sterling is the arguably best player on a fantastic team, one that is fantastic without him too, while Messi turns a Barcelona that is otherwise none too great into a great team. Granted I haven't seen full barcelona games in la liga this season but the stats seem to indicate he's been pretty damn great.
