I know it's hard to admit but there are some very glaring stains on football as a whole (diving, ref influence, role of money, lack of competitiveness, corruption, etc). It's easier to see in the U.S. when there are several very popular sports to compare it to (e.g. the concept that VAR is controversial is mind-blowing to most Americans). | ||

Sergio Ramos did his job. Once Salah went off the game changed. We had no one on the bench to bring on to add some spark, only injured midfielders who hadn't played in months and Solanke. I do feel Madrid were crisper in possession but lacked the penetration we had. We could definitely have won that game  Back 4 were amazing. The midfield needs depth, we need a backup striker we can trust. And as for the goalkeeper, it's been an issue for years. Klopp is on record saying that he doesn't think the goalie is that important. Hopefully he finally sees how important it is. | ||

Overall Liverpool played well. Their defence was quite solid. Midfield was tidy. Mane showed he really wanted it. But with such an isolated attack after mo left, Liverpool could no longer threaten. Then karius had to let it all slip, pun intended. Madrid's plan was simple. They just needed to absorb to pressure, and unleash bale in the last 30min where Liverpool are at their weakest. I really don't think they could have survived if Mo was not injured though... | ||

Dude I'm not disputing the issues with the current refereeing system in football as a whole, I'm just opposed to the idea that Real Marid's achievements, or any team for that matter, were purely the result of ref bias. Let's not forget that they didn't just win one season, but 4 out of the previous 5. During that period they won the domestic league one and came second on two occasions, both of which they were 1 to 2 points short from winning the titles (Barca won those years btw). I'm far from a Madrid's fan myself (though I do hate Liverpool with a passion) but I just simply can't discredit those stats and results with a simple "but the ref wasn't fair". | ||

You know why they didn't compete in Spain this season? Because Neymar left, and referees made it clear from the start that it would be for Barcelona, that's why I didn't even watch the league and knew from the 2nd half of fixture 1 that Madrid wouldn't be gifted the league like last season. It's a bit ridiculous though that LEGONES kicks you out of the cup if you don't have domestic referees to rescue you everytime. I can almost guarantee you, especially without Salah (who gave Liverpool politics backing this time for several reasons that are convenient for the parts), that if it was for Liverpool the guy would've been either called offside (in benzemas goal case) or the goal an "obstruction" for the goalkeeper, just like Casemiro's elbow doesn't cause a penalty yet in the following play the ball that rebounded at Cristiano caused a corner for madrid, instead of a goal kick for liverpool. And that's why they managed to turn VAR, which could be stone effective like in other games, just another tool to keep football manipulated. As for the spanish league you mentioned, it was crystal clear also fixed for them, they couldn't beat average teams without penalties and inverted decisions the entire game to rescue them, and they still struggled to the end. | ||

 Terrible news re Salah. A lot of hate going Ramos’s way but didn’t look malicious to me. Just one of those things that happens. I think Klopp got it tactically wrong a bit but in saying that losing Salah really kills our attack. Hopefully we invest in a decent keeper now. | ||
