#1 average is a bad statistic to use. its probably better to use median. otherwise that $12.8 gate for 129 brings the # up very high.... #2 no idea where you are getting ur gate numbers... i'll go with Meltzer's
100 $5.1 million USD 111 $4 million USD 124 $4.6 million USD 129 $12.1 million USD 154 $3.2 million USD 158 $3.7 million USD 167 $5.9 million USD
look for UFC 206 gate of under $2 million USD. Jones/Belfort drew $1.9 million USD.
i think the big problem is GSP's Under Armor sponsorship conflicting with Reebok.

I screwed up, sorry. I don't look at gate #'s much, so I suppose I used this: http://boxing.nv.gov/results/Top_MMA_Gates/
Which now I see is for Nevada only. So yeah, looking at that probably closer to $4-5 million, maybe even more since it's happening in Toronto. Yeah honestly I don't know, I guess add a little bit to my estimate. I don't think it should change much to my conclusion though.
I think it all depends who they get as the main card for UFC 206. Right now I agree it's really really bad, but they'll add plenty I imagine. Cain vs Miocic, Nick Diaz can come back - Nick Diaz vs Cerrone would be hella cool imo. We will probably see 2 of Aldo, Holloway, and Edgar fight each other...Getting Weidman in there would be good. Lots of matches still to be made.

after the 3348 world cup of hockey games and the blue jays playoff run this town doesn't have a giant supply of people willing to spend $1000 to watch the UFC.
i would not be surprised for someone to get "injured" and they change UFC 206 into a Fight Night Card once the tickets go on sale and no one buys them...once its a fight night card then they can lower the prices and people will buy them.
compared to someplace like Chicago ... Toronto just isn't much of a sports town. toronto is a town of immigrant workaholics... maybe that sounds like a criticism.. but i like it that way.

UFC does dynamic prices, so they change prices based on supply. Fortunately for the UFC, you guys have like the largest arena in the world, that's why Toronto breaks attendance records. If you can fit 50,000 people in there at $100/ticket, you're set.
I know Canada situation isn't great right now, but right now for UFC 205 the cheapest ticket on sale on TicketMaster is $1300... I feel like with 2 more top 5 fighter fights and $80-$100~ average ticket price with $40~ for the cheapest, and obviously a couple insanely expensive front row ones for like $5k... And selling 50,000 would yield $4-$5mil gate.
I don't do this for a living, but it doesn't seem that hard to reach an average UFC gate in Toronto with a stadium that big. And UFC hasn't been in Canada for some time.

i like that TO is a lousy sports town. its part of the personality of the city that i like.
+ Show Spoiler +TO has 1 baseball team. 1 hockey team and 1 basketball team and 0 NFL teams. the TO market is slightly larger than Chicago. Chicago has 2 baseball teams 1 NFL team, 1 hockey team. 1 NBA team.
The AHL in Toronto can't draw flies. junior hockey is deader than dead in Toronto. college and university sports have zero support in TO. i think college and university is a place to learn not to cheer for sports teams. so i'm glad Toronto is a crappy college and univesity sports town. Chicago's AHL team does better.. Chicago's university and college sports have more than the zero support York and UofT draw.
Toronto isn't even really a "hockey town" which is why the World Juniors just visited TO for the first time last year after decades of kicking ass in small city canada.

Ah, I guess I was thinking PPV wise, something with some more bang. I suppose there have been two events in Canada this year already, 2 in 2015, and 3 in 2014... But the last PPV was 186 way back in April of last year.

GSP wanted less than 10 million. IIRC that number came from reuters which GSP said was exaggerated on the MMA Hour. Dana said that GSP would need to be reintroduced back into the UFC and that the marketing wasn't worth it lol. Disappointing that Dana is making stuff up with GSP.

what an awesome way to promote GSP. its GSP versus the evil promoter. Vince Mcmahon Dana White Dana White : "i have to be honest here...i didn't screw GSP ...GSP screwed GSP"
but Dana did GSP ever sign on for the Reebok deal ?
Dana White: "Reebok didn't screw GSP.. GSP screwed GSP"
and the irony is so sweet.. its the Montreal Screwjob 20 years later.

This is what happens when a company is bought by a group that doesn't care for fighting at all, and only care about the money. Dana White is only the messenger and only so much he can do.

the EvilPromoter v. TopDraw angle permeates all of combat sports... so the WWE created the quintessential promoter screwjob.. i could've said Tyson//King but nothing played out publicly so there is nothing to discuss.
Daniel Cormier speaking the truth http://www.flocombat.com/article/47437-daniel-cormier-stands-to-lose-a-ton-with-gsp-not-on-ufc-206 "Cormier fears with big shows planned either side of UFC 206, a fight card lacking the local star power of St-Pierre will mean it will struggle." Cormier sounds just like me 2 weeks ago in this thread.
as i've said before.. Toronto is burnt out on sports... 38327 World Cup of Hockey games.. 10 Raptors playoffs games.. the Blue Jays recent run...the city is so burnt out on sports that Grey Cup tickets are being reduced in price for November 2016... the ticket price decrease was announced today. if the Raptors and Blue Jays played 0 play off games and there was no World Cup of Hockey then the Grey Cup would've been sure sell out. The Grey Cup has always been an absolute sell out every time its in Toronto. Not this year.

Maybe it's a wrong assumption on my part, but from what I'm surrounded by with my friends... We like the UFC a lot, but we despise everything about how most sports are organized (hockey, soccer, NBA, baseball, etc). People here who tend to follow hockey would be a lot more likely to go to a football game for example, but the UFC is a bit different. I don't think the UFC is as close of a substitute, as the other sports mentioned there.
I view the UFC as being closer to going to a concert than to going to a hockey game.
edit: UFC is laying off 15%~ of their workforce, I'm interested to see how that will go. Personally I'm not a big fan, and so far, there's nothing but dislike that I have for the new owners, while I had massive respect for the Fertitta brothers, so we'll see how they play it. They're trying to make it go too much into the sports route instead of the performance route, so I don't like that. Tough to say now, but I could see us looking back at the 2015-2016 era as the golden age of the UFC.

that's true. the UFC is far from your traditional "ball and/or stick" sport so it weakens the link. However, the Grey Cup is more like the rock concert atmosphere though and its ticket prices were just cut in half. anecdotally, i know ~10 guys who went to UFC 129. ~2 who went to the Jon Jones headlined PPVs in TO in 2012 and 2013. Currently, zero are going to UFC 206 and no one is interested.
