![]() Also its a huge ass gamble for anyone in the top 4 to replace their manager with him. Goes to Liverpool and can take them back to champions league within 18months is best bet to get into the league i think.

Switzerland's attorney general has opened criminal proceedings against Joseph "Sepp" Blatter, the president of FIFA, international soccer's governing body. The New York Times first reported the investigation, and the Office of the Attorney General announced it in a press release Friday morning. Swiss authorities searched FIFA's Zurich headquarters and interrogated Blatter on Friday, according to the release. Blatter is suspected of "criminal mismanagement and misappropriation," according to the release. The investigation stems from a television rights contract the FIFA president signed with former Caribbean Football Union president Jack Warner, as well as a "disloyal payment" of 2 million Swiss francs (about $2 million) to Michel Platini, the president of UEFA, the European soccer federation. The Swiss allege that Blatter "violated his fiduciary duties and acted against the interest of FIFA" in signing the contract with Warner, a former FIFA Executive Committee member. The February 2011 payment to Platini also came "at the expense of FIFA," the release states. Source

One of them phrased it nicely today though, stating that they're basically stuck in a catch-22 situation where they need to get better players to get to the champions league and they need to be in the champions league to get better players. They keep buying lots of underwhelming players because they can't compete for the very top ones but they still have enough money to spend to buy lots of players.

The problem is not buying underwhelming players, the problem is paying 30 M€ for every one of them.

Of course but everyone happens to buy underwhelming players at one point, shit happens. But stupidly overpaying them is way less common and it has become Liverpool's speciality in the last few years. Started with Carroll for 40 M€ (FFS 40 M€).

You'd be surprised with the type of company that sepp blatter would have with getting taken down beacuse of tax evasion in the US.

The hype surrounding him might attract some promising young players though.
