Hi, may I ask what kind of supplements you guys take and what supplements are absolutly essential?

I wanted to mass up during the winter and I want to be most efficient of course.

At the moment I only take 1-2 protein shakes a day which include 4,5 BCAA per serving (http://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protein/10530943.html) along with eating alot (rich protein stuff).
Not sure if I am getting enough vitamines though

I'am thinking about getting:

creatine
vitamin-pills
citrulline
Iodine
EAA
arginine

and probably even missed some of which I heard. Seems like alot of stuff and I am not sure if I want to swallow a hand full of pills 2 times a day.
which ones would be the best in my situation?

Of those, creatine is by far the one i'd recommend the most. 5g/day.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

i think vit D is the best , call me superstitious but i always bomb it when i get a cold and the cold goes away in 1 day, so i think its the best although the semen thing sounds decent

Vitamin D is amazing.

Nobody gets enough vitamin d, our bodies and evolution did a bit of a shit job when it comes to that... That or we aren't living like nomads in the desert. All my doctors have said that everyone should take vitamin d.

Oh yeah? Well I met an FDA doctor who said there's no good evidence for vitamin D supplementation having any appreciable effect. So who are we to believe?!?

Vit D is the shit, and is so cheap placebo alone makes it worth it.

When I go for my annual check up, everything is perfect, except I have lower than should be vitamin D levels than what they should be at. They always tell me that pretty much everyone does, so I'm sure they have a reason why the ideal level is set at where it is.

From Harvard:

Would also recommend Vit D. I mean it is not necessary if you are a lot in the sun, but who of us nerds really is that. Especially in winter it makes a lot of sense. And more exposure to sun also has negative health effects for your skin. So when you take Vit D you basically get the good of the sun without the bad.

I do not really think it will help with a current cold, but it is important for the immune system in general. Also important for bones, mood and several other things.

Interesting thing that happened to me after I started taking it: after 2 months I noted that I shed more hair than before. First I was quite worried but then I read up and realized that shedding of hear is usually a consequence of new growing hair. And Vit D is indeed connected to increased hair growth, which is also why some people notice more hair growth and more shedding in summer. This showed to me that I had indeed been Vit D deficient.

And one more thing: there is a strong correlation between Multiple Sclerosis cases and lack of sun exposure. Afaik this is not well researched yet (generally MS causes are still badly understood) but Vit D deficiency is suspected to be a big factor here. Vit D supplementation might indeed help a lot to fight MS.


As a word of caution, it is actually possible to have negative health effects from Vit D if you overdo it since it is fat-soluble and will accumulate if you take too much. I read more than 15k units per day over a longer period will be unhealthy. 500-1000 units per day seems reasonable to me.

Huh, I had a buddy whose biochem professor and PI at UPenn ranted on numerous occasions about how useless vitamins are in general, how most people aren't deficient, and/or how poorly absorbed they are and/or how all these health companies are just in the space to rake in the cash. Is Vitamin D the exception? Is the professor a cynical anti-establishment dude?

You guys are making me want to start taking multivitamins again tho lol. I have hair loss as well and if it helps, I mean...
