IMO the stoppage seemed early, but unless Chad immediately takes Conor down at the start of the next round, it won't take much more for Conor to finish him. I really wanted Chad to win and shut up the fairweather fans on the McGruber train.

That IV ban means his days at FW are over, whether he beats Aldo or not. He looked atrocious after the weigh-ins yesterday. He's more suited at 155/LW.

And the Lawler-MacDonald fight was awesome. Both men had their moments, but someone had to win.

Well, Chad could have taken him down immediately, Conor's defence was not good. I agree with you that otherwise, McGregor would looked have really good, but it would have been far from over.

Imagine what would have happened if Rory had 20 more seconds in that round where he was really dominating. Anyway, most likely it wouldn't have changed the outcome, but I still think the stoppage was too early.

after re-watching the Mcgregor fight i think the stoppage might have been a second or two too fast.. but it should've been stopped before the round ended.

Mcgregor knocked him down with 9 seconds left and you just can't curl up into a ball for 9 seconds and expect the fight to keep going.

Carano curled up into a ball against the cage with 9 seconds left without a knockdown shot and the fight got stopped with 3 second left as well. Carano lost to Cyborg in that fight.

So maybe the UFC 189 stoppage was dead bang on correct and Herb Dean knows what he is doing after all and i'm just some clown on a forum board with nothing better to do but review old MMA fights

Just watched the card:

-I think Herb made the correct call. Time left in a round shouldn't matter, fighter goes fetal the fight's going to stop. (Granted, I'd wish it kept going if I had money on Mendez...)

I think if it was just a flash knockdown it would have been an early stoppage, but given the amount of damage Mendes had taken to that point it was a pretty legit call as soon as he turtled like that. In that situation that is pretty much the universal sign for "yeah, I'm calling it a night." I said it before, but after watching McGregor kick the cardio out of Mendes...I wouldn't want to fight him with bruised ribs either

Super excited for the Aldo fight. So glad the hype train is going to continue to roll along, because the UFC needs it. And then watching Aldo derail the fuck out of it will be so, so sweet. This was an AMAZING weekend for MMA fans. There were so many awesome fights and finishes on both cards. You could make a highlight reel out of this weekend alone.

UFC 189 is the best PPV i've ever seen.. .
now we look at the wounded soldiers on the battlefield and it would not surprise me 1 bit if most of the guys on the PPV can't fight until 2016... which is a cryin' shame... but its also the nature of the game.
