throwing aside the owner vs player stuff, the max contract is just a very...curious thing. we know that it's actually pretty anti-parity or at any rate good for certain destination markets. it's not good for places with no soft resources to attract players, punishing small market teams or inept teams with having to overpay to compete with the fact that the markets with high soft resources already signed the best players to underpaying max contracts.

the curiosity comes in when trying to figure out what exactly the max contract cap is for. the salary cap itself already puts a limit on big market spending, seems like a max deal cap would actually help these markets and work against parity with the mechanism described above. how did it get off the ground lol

A lot of the CBA is about protecting the idiot owners from themselves. You have clueless idiots like James Dolan who just inherited his wealth and wouldn't know how to run a business by himself. Or owners like Clay Bennett who willingly moved his team from a big market to a small market and keep whining about operational losses and other bullshit. The CBA makes better run teams like the Lakers subsidize poorly run teams like the Cavs. Of course, even the Lakers are run by a stupid heir now and not by the smart dad anymore.

San Antonio captures the essence of what the CBA does. It's a profitable, well run, small market team that ends up subsidizing some dumbasses in bigger markets because the Spurs are well run.

He might be a serviceable center for Cs, his playing time adjusted stats are not bad. If he can even get 8 boards for them it might be nice. hes gotta have some potential at least
