Someone has to drop off then but none of the teams in the West have gotten worse. Theoretically the Avs will have a much worse year because Varlamov probably had his career year, so without the insane save % on the amount of pucks he saw theyll probably drop down to 8th-9th which is where the Canucks might sneak in if Ryan Miller is the 2010 version, not the 2014 version. But if the Miller plays the way he played for the Blues the last 2 weeks of the regular season then the Canucks actually could sink below Yotes or Flames. | ||

I think for the next year or two the Central will be providing 5 playoff teams. San Jose is probably the only playoff team that may not make it next year. if they do collapse then I could see Vancouver getting ahead of them. Probably Vancouvers best chance is a SJ collapse/GM blows it all up | ||

They've made some pretty good moves, not the least of which being de-Torting. edit: They can finish ahead of Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Nashville, Phoenix - and then it's a matter of maybe Anaheim and Colorado aren't really the real-deal yet (they were on the receiving end of all good fortune last season), and then maybe San Jose over-reacts to losing to a good team and wrecks their lineup at some point before the season starts? And yes, Wilson is a good GM. He doesn't go full-retard like so many of the other GMs in the league. He's very patient and picks his spots. He does mess up from time to time, though. | ||

Going from 2 established goalies to 0 for almost no return, having their best players simply collapse statistically, have their defense turn into a bunch of crippled incompetence. Sure they were in their Calgary Flames post STanley Cup final mode but between Torts and Gillis the brutality and suddenness of the collapse was pretty shocking. | ||
