I think this idea that there is "a problem" with awful GMs and owners is a bit of a red herring. The Modern Era of the NBA is only ~25 years old and in that time every team (except maybe the Bucks) has had reasonable success. So to look at whatever team has had a rough run in the last few years is a bit myopic. The average team is going to be average. There are probably only a handful of GMs and coaches that can perform consistently above average.

It isn't a red herring. You can look at the deals GMs hand out to overrated and bad players and make a simple case of guys not even knowing basic things about players they want. We can get into mismanaged long term plans, PR fan talk about "rebuilding", and the stupidity of the coaching carousel of the NBA. Bottom line is coaches get most of the blame from media and fans because they are the most visible extension of management, when responsibility for droughts can usually be found by looking at the Front Office. You guys joke about the Eastern Conference time and time again in these threads over the years - look at the personnel running those teams, not the coaches.

That's fair. I think his career is somewhat similar to Johnny Damon's baseball career. Consistently between good and very good, never elite, but with counting stats that look great on retrospect that will have younger generations asking the question and older ones scoffing at the thought.
