Yeah without Messi and Neymar in they play a lot closer to a more conventional high possession team.
With Messi and Neymar though + Iniesta they have the best dribble playmaking you could imagine, so their whole strategy is to keep the ball until some sort of dribble opportunity presents itself to break the other team down. Though sometimes that passing leads to opportunities in itself.
Neither is the traditional tiki-taka so they have evolved definitely.
Atletico probably had the better play but they could really have used a goal cause it will get much harder in the 2nd half.

yeah they just needed to make some adjustments because dealing with Iniesta is significantly different from deal with Messi,
Usually teams are quite slow at making that adjustment or fail to do it at all, which is probably what makes a Messi or a Ronaldo the biggest super subs on the planet.
Athletico hasnt really looked second best in this game at all. Great game.'
And honestly I used to think teams with the pressing intensity would wear off and its a bad idea, but these guys have so much endurance they can pull it off for the full 90, especially after the breaks.

Messi doesn't really seem fit for this kind of games yet. He's always walking and he doesn't come back to create plays like usually.
|
I feel like Neymar is trying to play in other people(Messi) a bit to much, theres no harm in trying to take a player on when hes got a 1v1 on a break, be a bit more selfish create a bit of space. Its not like hes going to get 1v1's very often if Atleti has time to get their shape set up
