Omg yeah!! I always asked myself who Neuer reminds me of. Bartez is a perfect comparison!!! Genius but sometimes too crazy. I'd never want someone like Neuer as my number one gk. People like buffon or casillas are a hundred times more dependable. Really, the only ones calling the best in the world are Germans and football bandwagon fans.

Judging a keeper with a youtube scene is as wrong as judging offensive players with highlight videos. The goalkeeper position has changed massively in the last decade. To put it into perspective: Oliver Kahn called "the best Bayern Munich Keeper of all time" would not play a single game with Neuer on the team. The thing with Neuer is not that he can catch the ball or having great box controle, what makes him great is that you can play him like a defensive midfielder. What Guardiola does with Neuer is a revolutionary thing, he did this with Valdes in Barcelona and De Gea can do this too but Neuer does it the best: It´s called "Torwartkette" in german (goalkeeperchain, sorry not sure about a proper translation) Here is a (German, but the pictures speak for themselfs) blog about it . + Show Spoiler + It is basically the idea that not a midfielder drops back to create a short and easy pass from the cb to the midfield, instead the keeper takes this role. Bayern usual set is a 4-1-4-1, if they have the ball the left and right cb go into the midfield, the middle cb´s spread out and Neuer is available on a line with them. This creates a 3-5-3 set which is very hard to press becaus no matter who has the ball he has at least 2 options and the amount of triangles created is massive. Neuer is perfect for something like that because he has fantastic ball skills and is able to deliver presice passes and even if he is forced to play a long ball he can place it where his guys are in an advantage position (example the 1:0 in the CL final: + Show Spoiler +

I'm a Neuer hater. I think he's kind of a brat, and I think that he is too dangerous and makes Germany fans nervous way too often. That said, he is just as good as any other keeper in the world. Not only are his traditional keeper skills absolutely top notch and equal to any other keeper, but he's pretty great with the ball and goes above and beyond the keeper position to contribute to the team. Furthermore, he routinely makes some pretty great saves. While he is overrated due to his team possessing the ball so much, many of his detractors give his defense too much credit (Bayern's defense isn't that fantastic). If he wasn't so erratic and dangerous with the extra-curriculars, he could easily be the best "traditional" keeper in the world. The only thing that detracts from his play are those crazy extra things he tries to do. The idea that Neuer isn't even in the top 20 is simply stupid. He's a fantastic goalkeeper that is comparable to any of the other great goalkeepers around, and he's proven this time and time again.

Vote for the UEFA team of the year. I'm having a tough time. Picking defenders feels like a crapshoot, and I feel like all of the midfielders deserve to be in the team.

At bayern he probably gets the least shots on his target from all goalkeepers. You dont see him in 80% of the games at all. But when bayern play vs. the big teams he always showed an excellent performance. The entire last CL season he showed almost perfect goalkeeping. Also in the 2011/2012 CL season he did well, not only because of the penalty shoot out. And the match for Schalke vs Manu 2011 was probably the best performance i've ever seen from a GK. But he tends to play arrogant (the whole team does tho), when bayern has a big lead and he loses his focus. (Champions league vs arsenal last season) Still for me the best Goalkeeper by far at the moment.

It was hard to pick the central midfielders, because UEFA hates DMs. No Busquets, Martinez, etc? And Pogba is a beast but I don't know if he should be included over Vidal D:
