wadaya talking about Brian Burke is famous for surrounding himself with as many stupid people as possible.

all kidding aside , it appeared LA was trying to create some kind of bidding war at the end.

he's had one concussion as a pro that really isnt a big issue. And two of his three years, he posted very good stats behind a team that isn't known for its defensive prowess. So while he is far from great still, he has displayed enough skill that you'd think they'd treat him as a starter going forward considering what he has displayed and how young he is

You don't give that kind of stuff up for a goalie and not have him start 50+ games a season. And that's kind of silly because Bernier has started more than 20 games once in five years, and the Kings have been really good for the last three years when he became the fulltime backup to Quick. Bernier barely has enough games to know whether or not he's worth that kinda haul.

It's either that and they're phasing out Reimer, or they're shooting for a 50-50 split or something like that, which I think is pretty silly

https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger

apparently phaneuf is being talked in trades??? I don't know why they'd do that. Dreger is usually pretty good

Weird move by LA. Bernier was supposed to be the next great one until Quick won that cup and they have to give him the dirty money, but surely they could have gotten more than a potentially decent backup, an unknown junior forward and a second pick.

Matt Frattin has shown signs of brilliance when he gets hot, but most of the time he's running cold. He had a lot of opportunities in Toronto and I figured he was on a short leash if we're going to keep certain players. I wouldn't pay him much to stay, so this trade. I don't know. I'd like to see Bernier play a lot more and he should provide Optimus with good competition. As for Phaneuf.. there are always a ton of rumors swirling around in Toronto. I wouldn't read too much into it.

so you want a better alternative than Scrivens.

so although i think they gave up too much for Bernier i would not characterize Nonis' move as "stupid".
as i've stated before, Reimer has a weak glove hand and his rebound control is below average.

Did you see Don's defense a while back where he explains a lot of guys go high on pretty much all of them because usually there is nothing down low, lol. If we need any proof it really shines on the shootout because Reimer does hesitate a little glove side.

I think Quick made a good case for himself over the last couple of seasons man that he would be their main guy. He's proven it that the Kings are his team. I'll welcome Bernier, but man oh man he's going to have to do a lot of work here too to prove himself as a number one guy.

incorrect.
the Leafs call everything a "neck injury"... his "pro career" has been 2.5 years long with 2 "rests" in there due to "concussion symptoms". Also, "whiplash" is not a medical term. It's a term used by the Maple Leafs to avoid the fact that Reimer had a concussion while on the Marlies.

Bret Lindros started off his pro career with 0 concussions.
Unfortunately, he had 10 concussions from age 14 to 18.
How did that work out?

http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2011/11/09/feschuk_latest_of_several_concussions_worries_reimers_mom.html

Reimer is an above average goalie and also a concussion prone//injury prone giant risk.
the leafs have no alternative and can not rely on Reimer.

you're going to have to face the fact that the leafs and nonis know more than you about their own goaltenders injuries than you do.
by downplaying Reimer's injury problems (like the repaired ankle ligament that still requires he do extra stretching to warm it up) this strengthens the Leafs bargaining position when shopping for a goalie.

This makes Nonis smart, not dumb.

Here is a solid evaluation of the trade.

Reimer has had problems with the upper body since he was a kid.

as his mom reported to the Toronto Star.
and then Burke went ape shit about it.

"That the paranoid Leafs want to hide injury information at all costs is their preferred strategy, but all it does is motivate good journalists and reporters to find information in other ways."

the truth hurts.
also, it weakens toronto's bargaining position when looking for goaltending.

At least this ends the Roberto Luongo speculation.

We were never going to get Roberto anyway. He said it best, his contract sucks and if someone were to take it on they would have to be pretty darn desperate. It has buyout written all over it.

i think it was all posturing by the Maple Leafs, in order to improve their bargaining position for the goalie they really wanted.

January 2013
Brian Burke : i'm trading for Luongo
MLSE Board : no, we are not taking on that crappy contract for a fading goalie
Burke: that breaches the terms of my agreement i can do any hockey deal i want
MLSE Board: you are fired.

MLSE Board: Nonis, you can do anything you want except trade for Luongo.

I heard different reports. I'm glad the guy from Bell finally decided the notion though. There was a lot more to Burkie's firing as well. He was too much of a distraction considering what a loud guy he is.

Before I say this, i must acknowledge i do not like the Toronto Star's left wing leanings. I'm a libertarian.

with Bell and Rogers owning the team, The Toronto Star, is one of the few truly independent media voices that can keep the Leafs honest.

you realize a lot of Theoren Fleury's self esteem issues relate back to being sexually abused repeatedly over a lengthy time period.
i'd ease up on the guy.

if you want to criticize him as a hockey player or an athlete that is fine.
criticizing him as a human being is a bit harsh.

When Team Canada asked Fleury to play he always showed up.

The good thing about a soapbox is that it gives you something to hang onto during a flood!

Jokes be jokes. Don't take things too seriously in a hockey thread on an internet forum about videogames.

check out the Theresa Cruz speech.
it covers the MLG child abuse ring in pretty good detail.
MLG = Maple Leaf Gardens.
also, nothing has gone on at Major League Gaming "for decades" because the company is not old enough.

that is what the Bell and Rogers Media empires want you to believe because they own the team.
checking independent media sources you'll get a completely different picture of James Reimer's head injuries.
Someone posted a Toronto Star link about the entire sordid ordeal.

Fortunately, niether Bell nor Rogers owns the Toronto Star.

Reimer has been battling concussions for many years.
