(Still, Bayern fans would argue Dortmund played for the 4th place to stay out of EL and to concentrate on winning the national championship ^_^). No way there were any political reasons, that's paranoia. Klopp is able to smile like a madman in pretty much any situation btw.

Dortmund has beaten Bayern time and time again in the last two years and shown some crazy good football. Not saying they're the favorites, but definitely a contender.

I just wanted to add that it was already clear that Dortmund would end up in group D after BATE Borisov was drawn into group F. At that point only Malaga, Cluji and Dortmund were left and only group C (Milan, Zenith, Anderlecht), group D (Real, Ajax, Man City) and group H (Braga, ManU, Galatasary) had an open spot left. Malaga couldn't go into group D because of Real and couldn't go into group H because Barca and Valencia were already in a group that plays on that day (groups A-D play on one day, group E-H on the other) and they split teams from countries with 4 participants (only England and Spain) so that they have 2 teams playing on each day. As you already stated Dortmund couldn't go into group H so Cluji ended up in that group and Dortmund joined the group of death. On August 31 2012 18:20 Mandalor wrote: I'm soo looking forward to group D. Not a dortmund fan here, but that team is reaaaaally good. Anyone counting them out because of their weak showing in CL last season is ignorant. Dortmund has beaten Bayern time and time again in the last two years and shown some crazy good football. Not saying they're the favorites, but definitely a contender. Group D will be great, I agree with that. Dortmund played phenomenal in the Bundesliga for the last two years, but they sucked in the EL and in the CL. If you watched the games, they played just bad in some of them but more often they played quite good, but not very clever and lost to teams they should have beaten. So it will be interesting to see if they finally manage to perform on the international level as they perform in the Bundesliga. They gained a lot of experience in those two years so hopefully they can make it happen. I think playing in this tough group can be a good thing for them, because the pressure isn't as high. No one will blame them if they put up a good fight and don't make it out of this group. Real should make it out no matter what, they are just too good but I think they can beat Man City and get the second spot. Man City was also not very convincing last year in the CL/EL so they are quite in the same boat. I don't see Ajax finishing Top2 in this group, but maybe they upset Dortmund or Man City and snatch #3 and the EL qualification.
