Greetings, TL'ers!
Emmett from Justin.tv here. I'm the lead of the gaming team. We think that 2011 is going to be a huge year for eSports and for Starcraft II in particular, and we want you all to know that Justin.tv is dedicated to supporting the long term growth of eSports and competitive gaming!
We're proud of and excited by the success of recent Starcraft tournaments, including the scReddit Invitational, GosuCoaching's Premier League, and RootGaming's Success Pays Invitational to name a few, and hope to continue supporting similar Starcraft events.
We're committed to building the best, most reliable, platform for casting eSports. We're in 5 datacenters already, and we'll be in many more by the end of the year. With more than 300 gbps of in-house bandwidth, we have one of the most robust networks in the world for streaming video. We now average more than 1 million views per day across gaming, and are growing fast.
We got serious about gaming on Justin.tv in December last year when we noticed that was pretty much all we ever watched at JTV HQ. That's why I'm incredibly excited to announce that Day[9] will be broadcasting on Justin.tv starting today! “We were impressed by the level of support and quality that the site offered,” said Eric Burkhart of Day9tv.
I don't think I need to introduce Day[9] to anyone here, so I'll just say that his daily cast was what got me into watching Starcraft commentary last year. Seeing him cast on http://www.justin.tv/day9tv will be a real treat for me personally, and I know the entire team at Justin.tv will be tuning in to Sean's shows on the regular. Day[9] joins all the great players, teams, and casters already on Justin.tv, including TotalBiscuit (http://www.justin.tv/totalbiscuit), Husky (http://www.justin.tv/huskystarcraft), and GLHF.tv (http://www.justin.tv/glhf) and many more. Thanks to you, Justin.tv has become an awesome place to find live Starcraft content.
If you have any questions for the Justin.tv gaming team, we'll do our best to answer them in the comments. Our question to you: What are the best things we can do to support eSports, and Starcraft in particular? Streaming features, sponsorships, events?
To give you a quick summary of some of the cool features we've built based on gamers' feedback in the last few months, here's a short list:
- No Viewer Limits for gaming producers
- Delay Server for tournament broadcasts
- Realtime Transcoding allowing for multiple bit-rate selection
- Global Broadcast Servers
- Chat using an IRC client
- Member channels allowing for guest broadcasters on a single channel

- Autoplay for Embeds
- Push to YouTube for All Users with auto-chunking
- Game Tagging
- Unlimited archiving

It's awesome that JustinTV is doing this to help out Esports. I espeically love the Delay Server for tournament broadcasts. Great job guys.
|
|
Cool :D
Is the delay thing for tournaments working well?
|
JTV has always been the best quality for me, I quite like it and am pleased at this announcement.
|
Sounds good Day9's channel is marked as private at the moment though. Dunno if this is on purpose.
|
Sick stuff mate, looking forward to the coming changes.
|
Wow, I had my issues with JustinTV, but they seem to be fixing everything. BIG HEART! This is so awesome
|
Unlimited chat room size? For the daily? Oh boy...
|
Wow! Great news! Hopefully, this is more reliable than USTREAM bandwitdh wise.
I wonder how much justin.tv is paying him to transfer?
|
Oh, you spoil us. So much better than ustream.
|
Wow, I'm so happy that JustinTV is helping out E-Sports! I love their interface and the resolution selection is a pretty awesome feature.
|
oh wow, some of the features sound pretty nice. I like the fact that it is so gaming-related ^^
|
Noooooooooooo!!! Why is your site flagged for Peer-to-Peer File-Sharing!???
I know this is good news for some people but this is just horrible for me because I can't watch JTV from school. Oh well I guess the days of watching live are over and I will join the archive viewers.
|
This is great news. I love JTV streams and never have any lag when watching them.
|
Those are some sick features. Unlimited chat room is going to be interesting considering there is 7k + people in there on average.
Justin.tv seems to be the only one with a working app for my ipod touch, which works really great. Love being able to watch a show when I'm not able to access a computer.
|
justin.tv is ridiculously better than everything else, especially for iphone fans. thank you sir.
|
Thats Wonderful!
Are chatrooms as easily moderated via an IRC client on JTV as it is other platforms, and, does this mean I will be able to Stream Day[9] Live on my iPod?
If the answer to that last question is yes, then I will finally be able to enjoy a hot soapy bath at the same time I Enjoy some hot live day[9] action on my iPod.

It is AMASING to see how supportive Justin.tv is towards esports. I'm sure everyone in the community appreciate that a lot.
The best thing you could do to support Starcraft is invest in sponsorship, especially in teams, so their players can go pro.
The community can provide quality content and has a lot of people ready to give their time for free in order to make esport happen. What we need is just more salary and more cashprizes and verry few company has the power to do that.
|
Amazing news! Justin.tv is finally starting to shine and look actually professional which isn't to be said for any other streaming website so far.
