I'm done with CCGs and probably Blizzard too. Sounds like D E N I A L If you want to watch for a time where I might be tempted you'll have to wait for the next PvE expansion. I never liked the GvG expansion style because when I was playing I wasn't satisfied with either my classic set completion or GvG completion. Adding a third thing set of things for me to grind at forever and ever? No thanks. I'm done with grinding in F2P games, it's more like doing dishes than having fun. Even the PvE expansion would be a stretch for me at this point considering how expensive they are for how much they give. So, as mentioned before, it's a CCG first and foremost before it's a F2P. I can understand why the RNG would turn people off the game, but the fact that Blizz is continuously releasing cards for a CCG should surprise no one. I know you're right, and it might that no CCG would be financially viable if guided by my preferred rate of card release/gain, but I think that's an oversimplification of my complaint. I sort of wonder what the market would be like if it was a TCG instead and you didn't have to rely on dust.

Who knew that Blizzard would strike digital gold a second time. I sort of wonder what the market would be like if it was a TCG instead and you didn't have to rely on dust. It would be easier if your goal is to make casual decks with mediocre cards, and WAY worse if you were trying to make a competitive deck or collect a full set. A cursory glance at how secondary markets for paper TCGs works should make that pretty apparent. The *average* value of a card in secondary markets would stay similar, but the value of low-demand/excessive supply cards would drop while the value of high-demand/rare cards would skyrocket. It would be unsurprising to see a card like, Dr. Boom for example, go for ~$20-30 (if not even higher than that) on secondary markets if HS had trading but no dust crafting. I think Blizzard was definitely cognizant of the direction secondary markets develop and were mindful of that when they chose not to include trading in Hearthstone. For myself I feel like this rate of card release is fine (I'm not playing Hearthstone for other reasons). Though that's partly because I personally like the "progression" aspect of collectible gaming and making deckbuilding decisions within budget constraints adds an interesting dimension to the process for me. Constructed actually felt LESS interesting to me once I reached the point where I actually owned all the cards to make the deck I wanted (right before I stopped playing I was actually playing more games on my EU smurf than on my NA account because it was more fun to play with almost nothing).

Who knew that Blizzard would strike digital gold a second time. Well, someone was going to hit the mark eventually. Wizards clearly dropped the ball, and Blizzard took hold well because 1) Battle.Net lends itself very well to playing games and being connected to friends and 2) Blizzard's pockets opened the gateway to a high quality, smooth CCG experience.

They clearly aren't, the question is whether WotC actually ever wanted to be in the market Blizzard is in, which is a question that nobody outside of WotC management would be able to answer, really.

I think the fact that HS became the dominant one so quickly has to do partly with the the Blizzard/Warcraft branding, but also to do with some subtle design choices. Yeah I'm not saying it's an early adopter thing (I guess my previous post was phrased poorly). It's the perfect storm of Warcraft lore, ease of use, platform, and community. edit - Swaglord, this is for you + Show Spoiler +
