Girl at the gym was doing deadlifts with her spine so i interrupted her to make sure she didn't fuck up her back. Apparently this was a mistake and i should have let her stay as hunch backed in peace. I guess correcting peoples form is creepy, demeaning and i should let people injure themselves instead of trying to be some "hot shot expert trying to pick up girls just trying to work out." That's frustrating. Like please... was on my lunch break trying to fit in a 45 minute workout. Guess that ones on me, trying to help.

That's like golden rule. If you think it's a big issue, talk to a trainer or staff member about it and let them do it. Depending on your gym environment and person it can vary but just be to safe it's better to adhere to guidelines. It sucks, especially when you just trying to help but it's kind of like the bathroom rule for guys. Do not fucking talk at the urinals you animals.

I've got a couple friends I've considered disowning for talking at the urinal... For climbing, it's common courtesy not to reveal the technique/strategy ("beta") of a climb unless it's asked for. It's a bit like having a puzzle or riddle spoiled for you. Bit different than lifting though...

Wuld people really rather throw out their back than have an awkward conversation? Just feels so shitty to me. Rehabbing my shoulder was like the worst thing ever. Shit hurts all day constantly agitated; back woukd be worse its always loaded. We're people we can get along and be cordial. We can relay critical safety information. Bleh. And do people really hit on people by saying "hey... so i dont mean to be rude, but i dont want you to hurt yourself."? Cuz i think that's probably a pretty awful approach.

But you hear plenty of stories of good Samaritans getting a big shaft from the ppl they're supposedly trying to help. Completely understandable that you're feeling salty right now, but guess the bigger question is are you willing to do it again? Putting yourself out there (in a different situation, for different reasons, etc) for a random stranger.

I mean personally I've had a guy tell me when bench pressing I must use suicide grip or that when squatting I must go all the way down until ass touches the floor. I didn't ask you people and what you giving is just straight up bad advice. I've even ranted before about some douchebag one day who "helped me" by telling me the row I was doing wrong and I must get "arnolds workout" even though the row I was doing was actually how arnold did/does them as it was popularized by the US coach. Getting warning for sexual harassment is really shitting and just kind of speaks to terrible management as well as the girl in question making a mountain out of a mole hill. Who knows maybe she's had a string of "helpers" trying to hit on her that she now just got fed up even though you were being genuine. That's why I say it's better just to tell someone that has "authority" in the gym about your concern.

Especially with her doing deadlifts, that's really high up the ladder of movements a girl is probably thinking 'oh this dude was staring at me the whole fucking time' if approached afterwards. I literally do this professionally and still shy away from helping strangers in public gyms, and even more so women because for right or wrong most of them are on edge just being there because they either actually have had bad experiences or have been taught to expect them and are always on guard. FWIW yes that's an extremely common way to hit on women at a gym too. Manly man showing her how it's done, it's an excuse to 'help', establish masculinity(and superiority), and starts a conversation if she's receptive, and there are most certainly guys that don't give a fuck about the prospect that she doesn't want any of it(help or their attention), it's just another # in the lottery to them.
