When you run a deficit, you need to borrow money to cover the deficit. This by itself sounds bad as an individual, but the reality with nations is that most nations can borrow money for cheap (like 1-2% APR iirc) so you might as well. The problem is when you are Greece and no one think you can pay your debts, then the cost of loans increases and you can no longer run a deficit. Terrible things happen. | ||
