It's free and you don't have to worry about the host's computer being off randomly like you do with mumble. | ||

There's someone whose day I can ruin just by typing "DANZAI" to him because it won't leave him for the remainder.I first listened to stuff on PineappleDisciple's channel, which went up to PoFV iirc. Then I added bits of SA on top of it, and from the PC-98 era. By that point I had exclusively played EoSD because I wanted to finish it before moving on, though. Never finished it. Neither did I finish IN (arguably didn't play it much), PCB (but I'm playing Sakuya so I get the Euro-certified toxic version of the Prismriver), MoF nor SA. I got a bunch of the info/context/trivia from the wiki though. I also appreciated Touhou a lot because I'm into folklore and cultures in general, and the wiki's info on characters' inspirations and references made for a good proxy about Japanese lore (added bonus of scant wikipedia articles on the subject so I only spend 2 hours and not 5). ZUN's been referencing historical events and figures, notably something about religious splits with the characters from UFO and TD, I dodged a bullet there but what I glimpsed made me want to read more about that period. Another bias. Fun fact: SA's 5th stage, Lullaby of Deserted Hell, is inspired by Scarborough Fair, a classic Celtic air. It tends to receive a lot of folk arranges and I'm pretty sure a good part of their "composers" don't realise that the reason the melody sounds so suited to it is because it is. It's also random tidbits like Rin that make me appreciate the games + Show Spoiler + Rin's a cat familiar (yes, able to take a humanoid form, yes, it has cat ears) whose job is to ferry the corpses throughout the Former Hell (she goes and steals them from funerals since Hell relocated and noone comes anymore). She's inspired from cat youkais who steal corpses at funerals to bring them to hell. But her fellow familiar, Utsuho, basically controls and "monitors" a nuclear power source below the Former Hell. So she's a cat roaming a forlorn place deserted by its previous inhabitants and in close proximity to a nuclear radiations source... just like the closest parts to Chernobyl have been deserted by humans and taken over by the wildlife. About the moe/non-standout part, it's probably subjective but I feel that while Touhou games aren't as hectic as other danmakus, they build on that, being more about pattern routing than dodging to make it through the barrages. For a slow brain like mine, it's easier but also more enjoyable to play. Often beating a spellcard is like solving a puzzle, it feels rewarding. Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler emphasise that part even more and despite how frustrating the trial-and-error aspect can be for me, they're still very enjoyable because of that. | ||
