I think its largely depending on the size of the company and the seriousness of the work. I dated people i worked with when i was in retail in high school.

But what was the dream? Was it her boyfriend saving her from your creepy basement you locked her up in? Were you both working late, alone, sitting around a crowded desk of ideas and Chinese take out a la What Women Want? Or was she running from a pancake monster and you, the janitor of the local giraffabear menagerie, handed her a telegram from Dennis rodman before flying away on your magic mop?
Because then it makes a difference.
ps this is directed at soniv AND alaric, because coma brings up a good point. Does co-worker mean on your team? Same department? Or just in the same company?

If if she's on your team the whole "don't shit where you eat" thing is so immature. Almost everyone about relationships depends on the maturity of the people involved. It's perfectly fine to be involved with someone at the office as long as you treat it responsibly and maturely.

No idea what the dream was - I asked a bit, but she didn't really say, and I'm not one to go chasing after things like that. I'm also not one to actively go looking to interrupt a relationship. If she wants to come onto me, that's fine and not my responsibility.
The company is ~200 people, she sits one row over from me, and the dude she's involved with isn't too terribly far. I see everyone in the office every day, and I work with both of them with relative frequency (interdepartmental shit). It's a bad idea.
Not that I'm opposed to bad ideas, but it's not one that I'm going to be diving head first into.

I think this is a funny joke, but I always worry about this joke, because I feel like many Americans think it is true.
People do know that France was the most powerful country in the world, the "leader of the free world", and a huge military power that nobody ever dared fuck with for hundreds and hundreds of years right?
It's only since the end of WWII that France has gotten its modern "Oh I like cheese and sex and surrendering" image.
Also Soniv, I just had to play Lux vs. Viktor. Fuck you, guy. Game went 60+ minutes and I had to sell boots for Lich Bane. I do not need you creating this kind of stress in my life .

I don't get the don't date people at work mentality. Especially in Sonivs case where there is a chance for threesome.

Numy, it wouldn't change anything for me, since I am not mature in any way, 'cept when you look at my ID card or the belly that starts separating me from my youthful healthiness. Also she literally sits across the desk, we're a team of 12 people atm with 4 including us both on the maintenance tasks, so if anything goes awry I'd just have to lift my eyes from the screen to see the consequences at the office.
I'd consider someone in another department, maybe, but not someone on my team. x)

In a lot of American companies you even have to sign agreements stating that you won't date people you work with and can be fired for it.
I remember there's been some studies talking about how 50 years ago a majority of relationships started in the workplace and now we're forbidding people from doing it and wondering why nobody gets married anymore, it's kinda hilarious.

@soniv Ok I get that. Yeah I'm not saying being a home wrecker, but to be in someone's dream, that's interesting. They're so personal, I'd find it far too intriguing not to inquire or push the envelope. Not for any romantic reasons, purely selfish ones. I find it if she'd tell you that you were I'm her dreams and yet not give you any information. Why tell you then? At the very least have the courtesy of being like OH SONIV YOU CUTIE I DREAMT ABOUT YOU BUT I FORGET THE DREAM, SURE IT WAS GOOD THOUGH WINK WINK

sharing a career with someone would be pretty sweet in an idealist sense. just seems like a big risk if your not talking about marriage (which i know we aren't).

yes, yes thats exactly the vibe you're spreading
you wrap every jab in three layers of padding just in case somebody gets their FEELINGS hurt and you get misunderstood
3 layers of padding and 4 paragraphs of text with footnotes explaining everything twice just in case

MMF not as good though.
@alaric I mean there is a lot of different ways to flirt. Hard to tell without context and tone but if a girl was commenting on my fairly niche hobby of anime/mamha shit and took the time and effort to mock me and analyze my previous dealings then yes I'd take it as flirting even if it is only the tiniest amount.

Firstly, I think anyone with more than a 6th grade education knows the french military defeats is a joke. Heck, french was the international language of trade for a large part of history because they were the super power at the time.
Secondly, it's funny you bring this up. In the workplace we're becoming a lot more "professional" in general. Business attire is more expected, resumes and long interview processes are a must, and workplace relationships are often looked down on now. Compared to 50 years ago just to apply for a job, the whole process takes weeks to months when back then you really could just walk in, get an impromptu interview, and be hired that day. And then when we have to wait over a month just to get a job and it's not even guaranteed because of the state of the economy as a whole, our generation gets labeled as lazy, no work ethic, etc.
It's a bit funny to me but at the same time sad. I sometimes wish we could just go back to days when you just walked in and got the job rather than be told to apply online >.>
