Gahlo got mentioned by NAME by Kotaku.

Gahlo's next stop in his claim to fame: Valhalla!

Hence why he died and went up to Viking Heaven.

I've never met Gahlo, but I'm sure he's just as cool as a Viking.

So not really.

if this mattered then the best players would have the most viewers, and we know damn well thats not the case.

It's also heavily influenced by the effort put into content making and the desire and drive to cater to the masses.

It's this more than skill for sure. personality also helps retain viewers.

Yeah, but if the main point of the show is learning (as Mondays with Monte was) then you don't get the viewers to get motivated to get better, lol. You should be "better" already.
Also, I don't tihnk you'd find that many people who started streaming being bad, got popular and then got good, although I could be wrong on that. I have a feeling that people who get known for playing league badly tend to stay bad.

In league the big jump between steady streaming and popular tends to be a reddit thread about you, or officially being sanctioned by TSM/CLG/other team. though if we're talking relative to now, every long time pro streamer has garbage way back when and is much better now.

I'm not sure I'd call that putting the cart before the horse, but viewers being your motivation to get better is pretty strange (and seems expectedly a weak one).

Maybe I would pay more attention if you weren't trying to kill Projekt: Viktor!

It was probably more his stream being his motivation to play league frequently, and getting better without playing frequently is unlikely.

Sure, but it's really hard to assign causality to that.

It's reasonable that a lot of streamers got better. It's pretty shaky, if not plainly outrageous, to say their primary motivation for getting better was for the sake of entertaining their viewers, seeing as their viewership was already watching them regardless of how good they were.

I'm in agreement with Scip in the context of Monte's post. Monte wasn't just trying to be a popular content creator, he had a specific content in mind similar to a sort of Day 9 Daily. Day 9 had personality as well, but his initial success is extremely tied to the esteem he was held in the BW community, on the back of his very high level ability.

Monte wasn't garbage at League or anything, but he wasn't a top tier player either, which is generally what the public will expect from content of that type. He was good enough to help a very very large % of the playerbase which I think is why he started doing it, but unfortunately clout plays a large part, and in this scenario clout comes in the form of Elo/League+Division standing.

that part was in response to scip, and not about seuss' motivation.

I'd expand on Yango's statement and say that the only reliable motivation to get better is the desire to compete. It's a sustainable desire and nothing motivates more than when you love the game, love winning and hate losing.
