I did that with my arm in 2nd grade. Fell off the monkey bars, put my arms behind me to catch myself (note - never ever ever put your arms behind you to catch yourself, it's better to fall wide and flat) and snapped my left arm right at the elbow. Went to my mom, said "I think I might have broke my arm". She helped get my sweatshirt off, and my radius/ulna were completely detached from humerus and dangling.
Everyone should do a week of judo just to learn how to breakfall.
Agreed. I mean, I learned how to fall just from gymnastics, but it was also reaffirmed when learning some judo. I think the hardest part is getting it to be second nature. Sure, you might be taught how to fall, but then that knowledge gets lost when it actually happens and you're in panic mode.
