We've known for months that Gimr hasn't been streaming P:M likely because he wanted to make a deal with Nintendo. We knew for months that we weren't going to be at Apex because of the sponsorship. And it was also obvious that P:M stood to lose the most from Smash 4's release, so the dip in P:M numbers after that was hardly surprising. Nintendo has also been aware of P:M's existence for quite awhile now and have not decided to issue any CnD despite their legal right to defend their trademark (copyright is not actually their main concern, but if they were to acknowledge P:M's existence officially then they would be obligated to defend the trademark or lose it). That's why the sponsorships knock P:M out of the arena because official P:M at a sponsored event or on a sponsored stream would raise eyebrows and force legal action.
But people have already been blabbing on about all these issues for awhile and I feel that now, after Apex, we're turning the corner and people are working on growing the scene and hosting P:M nationals rather than complaining endlessly over the same things. Obviously TLOT hasn't been through the same tired arguments but the only sense in which Gimr's post worries me is the sense in which it will cause people to witch hunt rather than play the game and help with its events.
Does it suck that Nintendo could axe P:M at any time? Yeah. Does the fact that they haven't done it yet despite (unofficially) being aware of it mean they won't do it in the future? No. But I like P:M better than Melee so that's what I'll play. After all, Melee, League, and all these other competitive games will die some day too, so cherish what you have while you've got it.
That's my spiel.

The PM thing makes sense, especially when you think about how ape shit Nintendo goes against most people that use their content it seems like. I randomly tuned in yesterday mid way through the game. It was ridiculous. It was the worst thing I've ever seen, and I can't imagine how they let that happen.
The Secret vs VG game just now was pretty much equal levels of ridiculous(not as much in the 322 throw department, but just as ridiculous).

Twitter is exploding, game 2 happening soon.

Bonechan losing to an illusion needs to be a joke, his LC is pretty bad, but it can't be bad enough to lose to something that takes 200% damage right? Right? +18
Also, it takes 300% damage.

Yeah. I have no idea what's going on with these games. Didn't expect this.

Man all this #OneUnit stuff is getting really annoying on Twitter. I feel like icons in the Smash community are trying to guilt people who don't like Smash 4. If I was ever at a Smash event and Smash 4 is being played I'm not going to boo it or anything but I shouldn't be unable to criticize it because I prefer Melee and PM. Despite all of them being "Smash" they are different enough that the whole #OneUnit concept is kind of absurd.

you can't even do that here.... in an off topic forum which has nothing to do with smash bros

Yeah guys.
No game bashing without proof.
For example, Hearthstone sucks. Because it is a bad game.

Now that second VG vs Secret game was a lot easier to try to understand.

Why can't Smash community just do what the FGC does? Just keep holding tournaments for all version of Smash, like how there's literally a tournament for every game from the current generation.
They seem different enough where they can be considered their own standalone game. Hell, Sp00ky on his weeklies streams SF4/MvC3 on Wed.( with side tournaments in the background), and then anime games another day of a week (UNIEL/Xrd). Levelup Live does the same thing basically.
Or is there like no Smash players who play multiple games (besides like M2K)?
edit: "Stop a douchebag" traffic channel is amazing thank you.

They will. The smash scene has proven that it's strong enough to stand through adversity.
@owb - I disagree. I think sm4sh is a shit game, I thought Brawl was a shit game. But I will always support smash as a whole because I love the community and the strength it has when shit hits the fan. It's possible to criticize the game, but still appreciate the players. That's the idea behind OneUnit (which is a term I haven't heard until now)
edit - also, Ryzen is playing oil rogue right now

Subspace Emissary was fun, and I enjoyed playing Brawl with my brothers and my buddies.
What it may not be, however, is a competitive FG.

I'm not going to force myself to watch Smash 4 even when I don't enjoy it. Like I said, I think the booing is childish and incredibly disrespectful and I'm not going to talk down to a player because he prefers Smash 4, but I still really do not enjoy the game. I feel like #OneUnit is asking for more.

Sure, and that's what I mean. I enjoy sm4sh more than brawl from a fun perspective. But they're shit [competitive] games.
