But I think sometimes when the body is weak enough when you receive the flu shot, you don't get immunization to the flu - but you just contract it instead. Gahlo did a pretty good job correcting this but I feel like I should add to help correct misconceptions. I just commented on the flu shot recently too. Firstly there is no "The Flu" there are hundreds (thousands?) of different strands of flu. It is established that the vaccine is made from inactivated viruses that can't transmit infection. You cannot get the flu from the flu shot. (period) It works by allowing your white blood cells to create anti-bodies to those viruses so that when a real one shows up your body is more ready to fight it off. No guarantee it will work but it will increase your chances of not suffering infection and help you fight it off faster. We do not put every strand of flu in the flu shot for multiple reasons. It would be crazy expensive to cultivate and deactivate that many different strands, the shot would be huge and your white blood cells couldn't make that many antibodies at a time anyway. Smart people decide which flu strands are going to be a problem that year and those strands are used in the flu shot. So while it doesn't help against the other kinds of flu, it will help you against the most common kinds. There is no reason anyone should be surprised when they get the flu even if they got the flu shot or vise versa. There is no disadvantage to getting the flu shot. Edit: to tie this into the antibiotics discussion; antibiotics only work against bacterial infections, not viruses, taking them for flu is useless. Why are antibiotics not the greatest? Exposing bacteria to antibiotics, if they are aloud to survive, can cause it to mutate to a more resistant strain making it more difficult for anyone else who catches it to treat it. anti biotics also destroy all bacteria not just the harmful kind so it can mess up your stomach. don't give em to babies who's stomach isnt set up right yet. overall they def still have great possitive uses but they are prescribed wayyyyy to much lately.

Ask them to tell her they found it out on their own lol Just sayin'.

There have been some research going on to 'predict' how flu looks like in a future year. This was something I had opportunities to work on, but I passed on it for sonething else.

Every vaccine has them, some few are severe, and they are not limited to allergic reactions.

I stand corrected there are some disadvantages, i shouldn't have extrapolated to absolutes like that. I don't usually get my flu shot but that's cause i'm lazy, and my main point for frudgey was that you can't get the flu from the flu shot.

It makes me chuckle everytime because my mother barely understands a few English words, so whenever she gets these kind of scams she just throws the email because she knows it can't be genuine. :D
