How do you disagree? If all the hot grills are doing a play up on a mountain it's a good idea to try to get involved to get with all dem hot mountain women You said you weren't personally embarassed but you thought how easily people are manipulated is embarassing? That leads to a conclusion that you are embarassed by how simple people can be in certain areas no? Just saying. 40k posts would be even more impressive! I don't think Off-Topic will live to see 40k posts though. It just seems unlikely. 40k as in 40000 posts in Off-Topic?
You might wanna do/redo the math there.

Kind of like how pandas are getting fucked (or not getting fucked) because their whole species evolved to live on food that nobody else could eat and reproduce slowly to make sure the food didnt run out.

Damn I missed fun stuff today.
I'm not an expert on swimming but I know a thing or two about how human's operate physically, and I highly doubt the shoulders are really that important strength wise. The lats are definitely the prime movers for most swimming activity as far as the torso involvement. This also lines up with the image of your standard swimmer: tall, wide shoulder structure, not really muscular but has noticeable chest and lat development, definitely lean but not like sprinter type conditioning; leanness is unrelated to which muscles are important though
That's not to say shoulders aren't important for swimming. As a joint they are clearly the most impacted and most prone to injury. There's actually a slang term of 'swimmer's shoulder' that describes overuse of basically the entire joint, possibly causing pain well into the arm because of issues with the bicep tendon and humerus and into the neck and back because of strain on the subscap and lower traps.
TLDR: If you want a focus to your strength training that has carryover into swimming work on your back(the closest sport specific movement is pullovers, but general lat and upper back training is all going to show benefit). Shoulders are more of a pre-hab worry; not that you ever want to neglect anything entirely from a strength aspect.

I'm not saying it does. I'm saying that it did in the past and so it makes sense it still works in a way and I don't find that embarassing in any way because it makes sense to me.

Yeah, I don't know much about physiology to talk about muscles and stuff, but I'm just saying that the power in the pull comes from the shoulders and muscles in that area. Lats sound right, I never really paid attention when I coach talked about workouts and strength training/muscle stuff.

Whenever people had high impact injuries during gymnastics, we would often do swimming conditioning workouts because it is FAR less impact/strain, and you can gauge intensity easily in the water. It also helps restrengthen injured and weaker muscles/joints because of this.
