One of the many things I don't like about heroes of the storm is that the questing system feels WAAAY worse than in Hearthstone. Now, I don't like quests in hearthstone, but games are so much faster and stupid joke decks so much easier that it's not so bad. But being forced to play a hero I don't want to feels awful and if you ignore quests you basically don't earn currency at all, so you can hardly ever play the thing you want to play and earn currency at the same time. Not to mention that someone mathed it out and you actually earn new champions faster in League than in Heroes.

The other thing that gets me when I play Heroes is that it has so many borrowed assets I feel like I'm still playing SC2. Then all I can do is ask "Why am I playing this instead of an actually free custom SC2 map?"

Except there are quests just to play games with a role as opposed to the infuriating "I just need one more win with this class to finish two quests" and go 0-5.

Classes and roles are more or less analogous (you can have very different decks within classes), but I'll admit that the play rather than win thing is nice. If you did the exact same thing in HS though people could quest by conceding or suiciding themselves and that would be broken. At least, more broken than the current situation where people farm the bottom ranks.

Again, I don't actually like quests, I just think they work better in hearthstone.

What's not to like? Would you prefer normal games just rewarded more gold or something?

My primary gripe is that the vast majority of gold income in Hearthstone and Heroes is tied to quests. On average a quest in Hearthstone is worth as much gold as 15 wins. If you assume 10 minute games with a 50% win rate, then it takes five hours of play to match a single quest. That's pretty extreme and the last time I checked/cared the disparity was even worse in Heroes.

There's also the simple unfun nature of being forced to do something you don't want to do. This is particularly demotivating when you have a limited amount of time to play and have to spend the bulk of it in this fashion.

Seuss hits the reason that I don't like Hearthstone right on the head.

My other big problem is that you don't get anything for losing a game. That might sound weird when you just say it, but in EVERYTHING ELSE you get something for a loss. In LoL you still get IP, and in MMOs you still get EXP or whatever.

If you got 10 dust for every 3 losses I'd probably like Hearthstone a lot more, because as is if I play it and have a long, close game where I end up losing, I typically immediately turn the game off and don't play it for the rest of the day.

Dust for losses would be a problem for two reasons. Firstly, as your card library fills up dust actually becomes just as valuable as gold since the average pack (100 gold) is worth about 100 dust (mostly because the few epics and legendaries you get skew the average).

Secondly, it encourages farming losses. Unlike most F2P games this is not a team game with a complex leaver buster / vote to concede system. As a result it would be much easier to game this in Hearthstone. Even if you removed the ability to concede people could just play suicide decks or let their opponent hit face. It's just much easier to reward wins.

IMO though, something should be done about the time investment. Winning on turn 5 should not give the same reward that winning with fatigue does. Running into cancer hunter/lock all the time is really boring. Again though early concedes could really screw with the ability to implement that.

Holy fucking shit there is some disturbing imagery going around of the Charlie Hebdo stuff. One of our more controversial online blogs has a vid of a cop being executed point blank by the terrorists with a fucking AK.

I do hope there's going to be a second Draw Muhammad Day now.

I'm not really convinced that a good response to someone harming others for their faith should be antagonizing everyone of that faith.

oh no, god forbid we offend moderates by comical pictures of Muhammad, we wouldn't want to insult reasonable law abiding citizens

I just mean rallying people to do something that a quarter of the population of the planet find offensive is probably not fixing any problems.

like you wouldn't like it if people were rallying to make the media more PC... oh.... sorry dude.

But the thing is, the terrorists attacked because they found these images offensive. So complying to their wishes only shows them that they have power over us. It's a really touchy balance, sure, but removing [what they deem to be] offensive content because some dumb fucks get butt hurt over it is only letting them win.

I'm not saying no one should be allowed to draw him. If people want to they can. I just think organizing an event to offend literally 23.4% is stupid.

no, it's absolutely hilarious

hurting others should probably not bring you joy tho

that's not what's going on
I'm not hurting anyone by laughing at Muhammad cartoons
you might argue that the cartoonists are hurting muslims but I'm not hurting nobody

Petitioning for something that ends with people getting hurt should trigger some sort of empathy. But you know, being an edgy euro teenager and all you like to remind us with every single fucking post that you don't understand empathy and hate everyone.

you mean it ends with muslims getting butthurt or cartoonists getting hurt by lead?
I have the utmost respect and sympathy for the cartoonists and don't find their deaths funny by themselves
people getting butthurt is always funny. when it's muslims getting offended by funny pictures of their prophet it's like doubly funny because they are getting butthurt over something funny

Time to put on my social scientist hat.

The primary problem that the shooting stems from isn't the drawings. That's the catalyst for this specific shooting, but Muslim immigrant groups haven't been well-integrated into most European societies and states since well, ever. France in particular has a troubling history of that, from the treatment of loyalist Muslim Algerians fleeing after the Algerian War, to the more recent controversy over the veil or the race riots in the 00's. Generally poor, usually end up segregated in poor substandard banlieues (in the French case; but the general pattern is true across most of the US/Europe when it comes to disenfranchised groups).

This in turn drives the Muslim extremism that you see in Europe in particular; social alienation from wider French/British/German/whatever society leads young individuals to seek greater meaning or an identity to latch onto, which in Europe (for Muslims) often tends to be religion; and, when faced with persecution and marginalization, radicalization is often a result.

And indeed, radicalization of Islamic youth has been rising far more rapidly in Europe than in other parts of the Muslim world (I've read case studies where Maghreb youth end up picking up radicalized ideals while vacationing in Europe, ironically enough).

aka. there is a direct set of casual and social factors which drive individuals, particularly young males, into extremism; especially in a developed nation. It's easy and relatively to say extremists/terrorists/whatever are crazy, that they'll keep popping up, etc. etc. But what's more important is to recognize what drove them into extremist ideologies in the first place, and there's quite a corpus of literature on THAT.

I can recommend books on the subject, but everyone's probably tired of the subject and my spiel already.

Also, While I as a player would find rewards for losing in HS to be a good idea, phyvo raises the extremely problematic aspects of it, and why it probably won't be implemented.

So what do you think we need to do in order to integrate muslims better into our society LT?

Cheep is staff on TL, I'm not sure if that gives him power over all the sites or how things work out.

No I mean, Cheep is a mod. Why is that?

Could they really not find anybody better than the guy who was kicked out of the subforum for repeatedly harassing people, abusing his "staff" position and refusing to abide by the rules of the actual mods?

Where do you see that he's a mod? There are no bans from him in the Automatic Ban List thread and he's still listed as a Translator on the other site.

That's one part of it. Hate to be the voice of reason, but it's not a religious thing, it's a socio-economic thing. A large portion of Muslims tend to still live in non-modernized developing countries, therefore their baseline of moral compass tends to be more conservative, and thus extremism tends to be over represented in their community. You can see the same metric take place in more conservative southern states vs the more progressive states in the USA, and how they played out. There's a reason why big city states, and big cities tend to be far more progressive, while rural areas tend to be far more conservative. Similarly a large chunk of the Muslim community has been stuck in 3rd world countries, thus their faith tends to be far more extreme.
