The fact that we were doing a one shot means we were going to be fighting, and so preparing Cure Wounds would have been reasonable. Now, quite potentially he was roleplaying his character and didn't take it because he wouldn't necessarily expect to fight, which is totally legit. I'm just poking fun at Magnus cuz it was hilarious when we realized we had no more healing. yeah i know how clerics work! but yeah its totally reasonable for an inexperienced adventuring cleric to not pray for healing spells. my bard spells are as non meta gamey as i could do. pretty much just loaded up on the spells that fit his background and personality the best. i'd expect his spellbook to change dramatically over the course of an adventure as his experience leads him to get more..practical? spells for a campaign.

Same with stuff like fall damage. I assume it's for simplication and stuff, I remember another very simplified (it was basically 4 CYOA-sized books for classes, monsters, items/spells and a mini-campaign that also set up the context for a medium isle) RPG where you rolled a dice and added a flat amount, then +1 HP per x levels (every for battling classes, every other for hybrids, and every 3 or 4 levels for squishies). So you started at something like 10 HP if you're playing a Barbarian, you've got 20 by the time you're level 11, and swords still hit you for a flat 4 or 5. So these things still hurt badly, however what you've naturally become better at is parrying (a bunch), dodging (slightly, it's a special reflex roll and reflexes grow super slowly 'cause that also included dodging boulders thrown at you or energy bolts), and hitting stuff. But your armour and ability not to get hit still did a lot more than sheer HP to tank stuff. Also spells (both damage and healing) didn't scale in potency, so wounds tended to stick more. I felt the emphasis on not getting hit over having a bunch more HP was a more interesting mechanic. (Anima has that weird table where you apply a % of your weapon's base damage depending on the difference between your hit roll and the defender's parry/dodge roll, so if you barely succeed you scratch them for 10% damage, and if the difference is enormous you deal 2x-3x the damage because you just plow through their defense and hit something important. I found that a bit more fair too (although crits could be brutal).)

Sure, I did the same for my Bard - spells more for background than "practicality". In my mind, Clerics are just like holy priest dudes who heal and protect the sick/dying/weak/etc, so I always just expect them to have at least one heal spell. Again, nothing against Magnus, I made an apparently unwarranted assumption.

I don't think our ranger is playing ![]() I dunno it is only a one-shot though. I might be fine simply testing the limits of my character and the possible encounter strength.

But as characters? We walked into this ghost town, it's raining heavily, the guy we escorted and his horses have disappeared, and we find this hole with a pulsating, blue light. You're damn fucking right I'm gonna be cautious approaching that hole. On January 01 2015 01:14 Gahlo wrote: Yo dawg, I'm here to make it more difficult for you to get hit than deal with your sadism. ![]() A Detect Evil would've worked wonders near the original hut. Pity it doesn't go through feet of solid ground or you would've been all "WHAT'S ALL THIS EVIL UNDER US?!"
