I have gotten used to the smell nowadays.

Was turkey commonly served in school lunched where you were in the US?

because chicken was for me, and i think thats why i hate the smell.

Tool Park, that other M post was fantastic.
VE I can talk to you about dark souls later. I ersonally really enjoyed the game.

When I go out to eat I am for all intents and purposes a vegetarian and I hate it. I love my meat.

I am not really one to share much information just by default. I started using the net quite early, so I just never really learned how to share as much as people do nowadays. As an example, I don't think I could ever make an account name like yours for a forum like this.

Not that common I think. It was just the season was in, and I was not used to the smell at all. It was a long time ago though. Now the smell isn't that bad, but I don't really consider it as something good.

Man Demon's Souls had one of the most atmospheric worlds I have ever experienced in a video game, and Dark Souls had a lot of super interesting characters. Just because they don't bother telling you everything about the world doesn't mean it's not there.

I don't really care about the debate, but isn't the part of the game to let you in on all the stories of it's world? Shouldn't the game find a good way to share this information with you?

If you actually talk to all of the npcs in the games you get a lot of information/story/lore. It's easy to miss I guess, but I didn't mind it at all because the game wasn't meant to be story driven anyway.

The lore of the souls games aren't presented cutscenes and mandatory dialogue. you have to look for it. but its there.

This is actually a bit of an issue I had with dark souls.
I personally love story exposition in games and whatnot (oh noes egoraptor would hate me) but I had no fucking idea what was going on in dark souls and had no idea HOW to know. The world was immersive but you had to actively go out searching for story points and if you didn't know what to look for and where there just wasn't any way to understand wtf was happening. I think there's subtlety and then there's the way dark souls told their story.

Definitely think you right about DS in that regard. They went a little too far in one spectrum but in a world where games are too far in the other it's refreshing. It did well so they have money to try refine the perfect balance of subtlety. One of the issues is that the industry as a whole doesn't know how to use games as a storytelling medium. They either try too hard to be like movies or try too hard to be like novels. Storytelling in games is entirely different from other mediums so seeing a game try to be a game is cool. If AAA games weren't so focused on graphics/openworld maybe we'd have more progress in this regard.

I could've done with some more breadcrumbs than they gave, but I think they really wanted to get the mysterious/wandering/lost? atmosphere right, and it's hard to have the player feel almost aimless in their gameplay ON PURPOSE while still having the story be in the open and whatnot. I could be giving the devs too much credit, but it feels like they just didn't want to sacrifice from their primary goal, and while I'm sure it's possible to have done something better, they didn't feel the risk was worth it(or just didn't think of it, no team is perfect).

Demon's Souls was far better about giving the player direction and having the story placed in front of you, but it was probably a worse game for it(I think it was 'harder' but not 'better,' Dark Souls got the atmosphere and overall gameplay so much better, IMO).

And as far as graphics go, ( I know that's one of the primary issues that detract tors from dark souls have) I couldn't have cared any less about the graphics being blocky or textures being off and shit. People are really fucking spoiled in that regard these days. I think the only visual issue I had with dark souls was that frigging lava burning holes in my retina.

Red I agree with most of what you said. It was certainly interesting to be 'lost' in a game and I appreciated it to some degree but it was inherently weird to be going and fighting my way through shit and killing bosses and ringing bells and whatnot while having no idea why I was doing so.

The graphics fixes people made for the PC did a good job making the graphics look good in my opinion. Don't know how you can play without the fixes though.

And to continue (sorry for triplepost) I haven't gone back to DS2 because the combat feels off to me and I have no idea why. I can't dodge or fight properly and I had gotten really good at it by the end of DS1.

The PC port was really poorly done, and the devs admitted it as well. Once I was able to get the FPS of the game fixed, I was completely fine with the look and feel of the game. I agree with you Wave - I'm not a huge stickler for graphics.

I know it almost feels hipster to say 'I don't care about graphics' but I really don't. I mean, yes I prefer the game to look nice, but honestly I tend to turn my graphic settings down anyway to keep my computer running cooler and framerates steady. I won't say I NEVER noticed graphical flaws in either of the DS games, but I'm not searching for the next Crysis when I play a game to begin wtih(I mean for crying out loud the games I've spent most of my life playing are WC3 and it's UMS maps, WoW, League, Dota2, TF2, and ET/RTCW, hardly a list of graphical marvels even when they were brand new in every case).
