You know, part of the reason why I decided to share that with you guys is because I have spent so time in this thread and have interacted with many you over a large amount of time (even seeing Soniv in person, if only once). In the US we have a problem where people are not willing to step across the aisle and talk, both IRL and on the internet. Sometimes that's because they think it's pointless. Other times it's because they're afraid of being subjected to ridicule. So we go our own ways, getting our information from completely different sources and conversing only with people who agree with us in order to make jokes at the expense of the other.
So when I brought up my stance on gay marriage it wasn't necessarily to start a discussion about it. It was to point out that, personally, these kinds of comments bother me, they bother other people, and the attitude that creates them makes talking to you difficult for us. I'm not playing favorites here. I've seen thoughtful, bridge-building comments from Christian, Atheist, Jewish, and Muslim commenters. I've also seen commenters in each carouse and joke in their own ways merely to call the opposing camps idiots, or worse. It seems innocent, but all it causes is a greater divide; it silences opposition.
And in this case, because I care about you guys, and because I will be with you all in the future, I wanted to let you know that, while at this point I am used to these kinds of comments, I'm here, and I can amiably disagree without wanting to murder people.

much respect. talking about religion and related topics on the internet is like walking into a bear trap. you got like a thousand people waiting to pounce on you and ridicule your beliefs.
