02-10 Lumiose City
It's been a rough day. Pepper, our chipper Sandile buddy, was killed in combat. She was so excited to be back into a dry environment, it had been a long time since she joined us back on Route 9. The rough sand and blowing wind of Route 13 was annoying to most of us (Russ in particular hated the dry air), but she and Drake were positively ecstatic to frolic in the rocks and grit.
And we let them. I mean, after all, I'd just nabbed my 4th badge in an easy fight against Ramos, where Drake and Brand had positively wiped the floor with his team. I figured it was time for us to enjoy the scenery, we'd been running and biking from gym to gym since we started this thing, and time off was just fine with me.
Chuck and I were lying out, enjoying a momentary break from the wind, when the sand nearby started to shift and rumble. I wouldn't even have noticed if Chuck hadn't sat up and nudged me. It wasn't long until a blue fin slid out of the ground, approaching us at a rapid pace as though swimming through the sand. I grabbed for my Pokedex, and had it out in time to identify Gible as it bursted through the surface, jumping at me with jaws open.
Chuck knocked me aside, bodily intercepting the first hit without much trouble. Realizing that this was my chance to add a new member to our team, I called him back, or he would have crushed the thing with one shot. Pepper jumped to the task, striking at the sand shark to give me an opening to catch it. But she was cocky. Gible grabbed her neck in his jaws, there was a terrifying crack, and everything went completely nuts.
Lynn flew at the small Pokemon, firing off a flurry of Swift stars and knocking him bodily aside from Pepper's still form. She rounded on him, feelers whipping out to strike, but I managed to throw out a ball and capture him before she finished him off.
Part of me wanted to let her do it, to allow Lynn to act in retaliation. I'd never seen her quite so agitated, I guess she'd seen Pepper as a younger sister, or even daughter of sorts. Without words it's hard to know what a Pokemon is thinking, but I could feel the hate and pain when I reached out to her. But I knew the better thing to do was to stop her.
I looked at the Ultra Ball and named him Chomp, after his maw and final evolution. I explained to my team that he was going to join us from now on. The look of confusion and betrayal hurt me, it really did, but I told them that he was just acting on his natural instinct, and that some of our friends in the PC system were the same when we first encountered them. Then I let out Chomp and introduced him to the group. The catch process made him quite docile, but even as quiet as he was, the rest of the team looked angry at him.
I don't know, did I make the right decision? We've fought against and possibly even killed wild Pokemon before in self defense, but never for personal reasons. Lynn was kind when I met her and has always looked out for the others, I didn't want her to have knowingly struck down Chomp out of rage. This was better for her, for all of them, wasn't it?
Or has my quest to be a strong trainer clouded my judgement? Do I value a strong team over the feelings of my friends?
I kept Chomp in his ball tonight, while the rest of us slept at our campsite near the walls of Lumiose. Chuck stayed near me and my tent, but the rest of them slept on the other side of the fire.

You said it was not your intention to start a new argument directly after starting a new argument. "You said everyone is either a man or a woman and i disagree." this is taken out of context for purposes of said argument. If you didn't want to start one you could have explained your views instead of just telling me I was wrong even though I didnt express any views. Then you and other people continued the argument which you started when everyone agreed that the point i was trying to argue was correct.

I didn't end up using my Lucario (already have 2 Fighters), but that fight where you get him is so cool.

intersex is a weird mutation I didn't know it was recognized on passwords or anything though. i dont see why the view is offensive though. It's just a combination of both sexes, not a third sex.

its a weird mutation, thats not the same as calling someone a weird mutant if i met an intersex person wtf? someone who has 2 eyes different colours has a weird mutation, doesn't mean they are weird mutants
can you stop making strawman after strawman?

I'm terrified to go to the fighting gym cuz I know all my pokemon are squishy, even if they hit hard. Not really sure how to go about it yet...
Also, walked into Glittering Cave, first pokemon was a freaking Roggenrola...After that, all the cool psychic pokemon showed up just to taunt me.

can you stop making strawman after strawman? I was trying to keep it simple for you. Claiming there is only 2 sexes or genders is offensive because it insinuates that anyone that doesn't fit into those categories is wrong.

Also, I fucking love TLLoL OT. Several pages of gender and social theory whee.
Coma, I think you and Slayer are talking about two different things. Slayer is talking about biological sex (which is indeed statistically binary, barring intersex), whereas you're harping on gender (which is a complex and varied social construct given its dynamism). Sex=/=Gender. While you can make broad generalizations about gender roles and constructs between biological sexes (on a societal basis), and which is statistically useful and valid data for marketing ad advertising purposes (which is a positive statement by Slayer), this does not mean sex=gender(=sexuality). Biological sex does not tell us anything other than if you have a penis or a vagina (or both or none), and is fairly non-descriptive (unless you're marketing birth control, condoms, or other such products). It's the secondary, socially constructed characteristics which provide advertisers useful data in the short term (based on then-current socially conceived and reinforced notions of masculinity/feminism). That household cleaning products are advertised towards women is a result of gender constructs of women and females as homemakers (as opposed to, for instance, military recruitment ads targeting men).
From what I can tell, Slayer is grossly misconstruing the two: + Show Spoiler +On October 17 2013 00:51 Slayer91 wrote: wat you're either a man or a woman, or you were either born a man or a woman and have gender identity issues and you think youre the opposite, everything still returns either 1 or 0. (and only like 0.00001% of people are like transgender or w/e).
i mean statistically it's so insignificant that I can't believe anyone would say "gender is DEFINITELY not binary" when we're talking about statistics.
Again, gender and biological sex are separate categories and descriptors, and have been since the differentiation was introduced since the 50s, and the social sciences, for instance, have entirely transitioned to this framework. GENDER is certainly not binary (and generalizing people who differ from socially accepted sexual/gender norms as having gender identity issues is a somewhat offensive attitude towards those that do).

im not grossly miscontruing the two, im stating that the vast majority of people equate them and thus if we were an advertising company we ignore those few.
we are not arguing about different things nay more, and i know some people identify with the "opposite" gender as their sex, but you are butting into the conversation without reading the context.
