Having trouble against a boss, finds a bug where the boss just freezes and he's taking free magic shots and is about to actually end the fight with that, I tell him not to so he decides to never use magic for the fight again Dies a few times, some people in chat telling him to use magic so that he will stop getting bodied. "No guys, sorry, Jeff told me to do it like this despite spells being a mechanic in the game that they intentionally put in there, I gotta do it like this, blame Jeff." 4 tries later he actually starts dodging the bosses' attacks and wins. And he says I'm the cancer one. | ||

I'm something like one hour or two in and I enjoy it a lot. The way its storytelling is tied to the gameplay (basically you customise your "functions()" to use them as active abilities, upgrading another one, or using it as a passive, you can switch the setups at will at checkpoints and you unlock small bits of backstory from each function() by using it in different ways, so you can rush the game with a single efficient set-up or try wacky stuff just to unlock everything asap and learn more). Maybe I'm a scrub but there are several fights I certainly wouldn't have won without the turn mode. Nothing to say about the story I'm not that far yet and a lot more questions than answers. + Show Spoiler + Took me awhile to realise that the functions() unlocked by leveling up are people previously killed by the Camerata and whose Trace has been stored into Transistor, that we discover over time. Maybe I'm a bit daft. Made for a "OH SHI-" moment for me though. :') | ||

In general I have a pretty strong dislike for Molyneux, but this analysis of the situation is decent. The tl;dr is basically that him not being able to build a relationship with his parents forced him to look to his peers, who rejected him. This combined with the Hollywood life of materialism and beauty gave him the idea that with his roots, he somehow deserved female attention. The horrible thing is especially early on in his life his (step)parents ignored his needs for social skills and preparation in favour of their own selfish pursuits. Some of his aspects feel quite familiar, the escape from loneliness into video games, not belonging to the cool kids, etc. But where most kids who suffer through this can get support at home, he wasn't able to. | ||
