I've never heard of people EV training during their first run, usually once you beat the game you start breeding for the right nature/IV spread, then start the EV training grind. Berries, held items, and vitamins speed up the process a bit, but you're still literally grinding from 1-100 - slowly, since you're only fighting the things that you want to defeat and running from the rest. Part of what keeps people playing is all the things you can do post game. You can breed for natures and shinies, you can go completionist, you can level the perfect team, etc. Note: I've never EV trained extensively before, but I know the methodologies and ideas behind it thanks to Bulbapedia. If my information is incorrect, Yango or Moon will totally call my shit lol.

Where we put a 10 gameplay hour limit, and then battled to see who had the best team. It was pretty cool, but pretty much stopped playing pokemon once they started coming out for DS, cuz never really wanted to spend money to get a DS.

Usually you beat the game using primarily 3-4 Pokemon anyway, so it's just something to do with the other team slots (though those admittedly get held up by HM slaves a lot too). Otherwise I just collected pokemanns and shinies, goofed off a lot in the Battle Dome or w/e in Gen 3. Excavation or w/e was pretty fun in Gen 4 or 5 (I don't even remember).

Good library, good design, and I love the ability to snap is open and shut to "sleep mode" so I can just jump back to where I am. Granted the PSP has this ability too, but I can't stand the design of that thing. Never really felt the need or want to get a DS, and they were always so pricy too, at least they were for me when they first came out. (so sometime when I was in HS?) I might get one later on or something, but I was never quite compelled into getting one.

I do like self-imposed challenges, though. Nuzlocke runs, one-type runs, speedruns, etc are really fun ways to enjoy the game over and over again. I kinda forgot about my Nuzlocke though, I need to get back to that someday. I was thinking about getting both X and Y and then playing one and Nuzlocking the other.

I could only possibly play through one once then Bank my Pokes and Nuzlocke then.

I don't think I could do a Nuzlocke webcomic (though I read some, always fun), but I do imagine personalities for my Pokemon and trainer. I wish I had the time/patience to write a story based off a run. I really want to do one for Gen 6, but I want to experience the story first. Will definitely be getting Pokemon Bank so I can store and restart.

I had a Shroomish and a Poochyena that were doing well, and after that a Wishmur that tore up everything for a while (rival dropped her). My Numel was great until it ate an Overheat from Flannery's Torkoal that 1 shot it despite the resists ![]() I quit that one, have played my Nuzlockes much more carefully since then.

I know there are websites letting you set up your team and just do online battling, but the prospect of doing it within a legit game is just... ugh. You can't even talk about how it feels great to plan, because it's still much less time than breeding, walking to hatch the eggs, training to 100, etc.
