Special thanks to Ares for supporting us all the time. Also, thank you zerocartin for making our pretty pretty overlay!
Hey, everybody! This is Soniv, and along with WaveofShadow, we are your resident Twin Casting Golems.
I just wanted to make a thread separate from my own personal stream thread so that we can promote when we're casting for your viewing pleasure!
Standard "Like, Comment, Subscribe" applies here. But also, promote! We are enjoying ourselves and we want to spread the love.
Follow us on Twitter @TLCastingGolems Facebook Page: TL Casting Golems
We were accepted into the beginning stages of the AHGL "So You Think You Can Cast" tournament. Out of 26 applications, we were picked among the top 4 to move on. When we have more information for you guys, we will update this for you!
Any and all criticism and comments are welcome here. We want to get better, so please, tell us what you like and dislike. Also, if you have any good replays that you would like casted, let us know. We need the practice!
I may need to make a new TL account and attach the stream to that. Otherwise, I think the stream will just come up under "jcarlsoniv" if I attach it to this one. I'll have to ask a mod.
And I haven't done anything with outside sites for the stream. I'll look into solomid once I'm out of class.
Soniv pretty much covered everything we want to get across here; we both really love casting and this is a really good way for us to get out there. The more practice we can get in before the AHGL contest, the better, so let us know if you're doing an inhouse, or you can even send us replays of good games for us to cast! Feedback 100% appreciated, both positive and negative.
Soniv: as far as other sites goes, we get automatically and permanently added to TSM's tracker if we hit 50 concurrent viewers at any point. CLG's tracker doesn't work.
Edit: Praetorial---Yeah that reminds me; not enough Transvestite Eve in these casts.

So, what range of games are you guys going to be casting? I know it's usually Tl inhouses or durr/navi's games, but will you be branching away from TL's games (AHGL LoL not included ), or cast a wider variety of elos in solo que?
Some feedback: I really liked your cast. You had a very good mixture of funny talk and serious casting and analysis. You also have a good chemistry together. The only thing you might have to work on is the observing. At one time there were two fights and instead of following on you were switching constantly, so I didn't know what was going on in any of the fights.
But definitely keep on going. LoL needs some more good casters!

We were literally just talking about that. It's something I notice when we're casting, so it's just about focusing on fixing it now (will just come with practice, we're both still incredibly new at it).
@swim: probably. We're pretty willing to cast anything. Again, we just need practice.
Yeah DURR is constantly begging us to cast his games; we need some variety! If I have you on my friends list by all means send me a PM in game and if we're not busy we may be able to cast your solo queue game.

You can always do mine bros. I can't always guarantee good games though, Elo hell and all that.

Can't if you're banned, bro.
As far as I know we'll be casting tonight; not sure what yet. If you want us to cast your inhouses then try coordinating with us rather than just starting one and hoping we show up!
Also I demand moar feedback. We haven't gotten enough so far and I really want to be sure we're sufficiently prepared when the time comes. Blast us with how shitty we are if you must; I promise we can take it. We know you'll be behind us when it comes time to vote and whatnot, but before that happens, please just treat us as if you saw some mediocre casters doing IPL or something. What would you be saying if you were one of the 15k people then?

To go along with this (I said this on stream last night, but just to reiterate): we love hearing the support from everyone. But we really want to hear the criticisms. We are hyper-critical of ourselves, but we need to know what we can improve on in your eyes.
Going over the few vods you had on youtube (since I always miss it live) it's hard for me to really pick out one thing. The sona/iamthethis jokes are not really suitable for casting if you were to do a more formal tournament/live event. You're pretty good at keeping things flowing minus a few pauses in one or two of the vods. There is a lot of "X will be hard to deal with".
But the hardest criticism I can levy is about the time when Wave prodded Soniv about actually knowing ability names. Names are a fairly trivial matter (I've never heard a caster even mention burning agony by name) but it kind of degraded Soniv. When you're trying to prove yourselves as casters you don't want to say things that actively call into question your casting abilities during the cast itself of all things!
I guess my last suggestion is not to rely solely on us for criticism. We're all colored by what we like and don't like in casters and I'm certainly not an expert. If not enough responses come from here get criticism from more communities because even the mobafire folks might say "that wasn't funny!" and be helpful. Plop down IRL friends in front of the monitor who don't play LoL and ask if it's interesting if you have to. Most importantly though look at casters you love (no matter the game) and pay attention to what they're doing. Study the parts which make you really love them. Then do whatever it takes to be able to do that yourself.
I could yammer on but the short of it is that most people (myself included) might be able to make some minor corrections, and those can help, but a big part of it is your own motivation to cast like the best. I'm sure you know that already but it doesn't hurt to hear it more than once.
Watching one of your vids on youtube, 5 mins in. First time i actually see one of your casts.
The only real problem I have so far is that your voices sound so much alike ~.~
You also seem to not really know what to talk about in the pregame. Granted, few people can do that, the 3min delay so long..
€: If you rewind and decribe what happened earlier, please do it either on the one that does the camera, or describe what's going on properly.
€2: You might want to look into casting without directed camera. Also, pressing mousewheel and then moving it to the side looks much smoother than moving the cursor to the sides.
€3: I also think that using ability names is almost always good. But that's purely preference.

Wow Phyvo, this is great stuff, thanks. Going to go over what I think, piece by piece: Jokes - Clearly you've never heard Wombat casting. While I do agree with you somewhat, in the end it really just depends on our audience and who we're casting for. If AHGL wants us to keep it completely clean I'm pretty sure we can do that, but a few off-colour jokes in my opinion aren't too bad. I like when people pick out what we say too much though. Helps to keep us on our toes.
About the ability names thing: I didn't mean it with any seriousness. Soniv and I rag on each other a lot ingame and out and I suppose I figured bringing some of that into the cast might help show off chemistry and whatnot. You're right that I probably shouldn't be pointing out what we suck at during the casts though, even if it is in an informal setting. I'm self-deprecating enough as is, and probably shouldn't draw attention to that stuff.
We won't be relying only on you guys for criticism, we promise, but for now you guys are the only ones who watch us! If you want to help spread the word that might help us out a bit both in terms of popularity and that criticism. (I know people will probably suggest Reddit, but it's notoriously hard to get anything seen/evaluated there.) We will be creating a Twitter account later I think.

Pregame talk is easier when you're casting proteams because you know the personalities and the strategies those teams like to bring to the table; you have a plethora of things to talk about. As far as rewinding goes, we definitely know that's something that needs work and I recently discussed it with Ares and some other people.
Well there's a difference between talking about Mundo cleavers and talking about burning agony or masochism. I've never even heard a caster mention sadism despite it being Mundo's ultimate. Still, it certainly doesn't take anything away to say it if you know it.

This reminds me of another sutiation: Rotterdam and Nightend casting at HSC3.
Rotti and Nightend are really good friends from the wc3 days, and rotti is the kind of guy that likes to... tease his friends. He doesn't mean bad, and nightend knows that. Anyone that knows Rotti knows that.
But when he casted HSC3 he was still relatively unknown to the majority of casual viewers.
He got a RIDICULOUS amount of flak for being a "dick" to nightend all the time. Even though it was no big deal
The story: People that don't know you, they also don't know if you are joking or not. I dunno if that saying is translateable into English, but on certain things, you need to expect catering to the "most stupid customer possible"
Oh awesome, this is exactly the kind of stuff we wanted to see!
@camera control: Yes, we've talked about it a few times. It's just something I need to practice with. It's a little awkward because Wave does most of the play-by-plays in fights, so if we rewind, I may just have to take over a fight play by play so you guys can see it. Also, my middle-mouse is my push to talk, so I may need to figure out something for smoother camera control. I've also noticed a lot of the downfalls of directed camera since I've used it a lot recently. Again, just something I'll have to practice.
@skill names: I was the one who originally poked at Wave for using the skill names. I personally dislike it when casters use only the names because I don't always take the time to memorize them all. It's always "Zyra Q" or "Janna Ult" instead of "Blossom" and "Monsoon". It's just the way my mind works for most of them. It's something to consider and think about, but it's good feedback.
@teasing each other: One thing I really want throughout all of this is for both of us to keep our personalities. People seem to like us for our chemistry, and we both are able to be sarcastic and poke fun at each other. I don't necessarily want to be completely tight-knit, straight shooting, no-personality voices. It's possible we can be a bit more selective with our jokes (hell, we're just starting to stray away from swearing; baby steps), but I do want to stay colorful.
@similar voices: Wave will just have to start letting his Canadian accent shine.
One thing that might help the identification of voices would be to use each others' names occasionally. It's really only an issue now because there is no camera to see who is talking. I think you could probably make it natural thing, just lead off a question with "so soniv, how do you like to set up your runes on Viktor?"
Watched the whole TSR game, I have no idea what Elo that was but I am currently unranked and the plays made me giggle like a schoolgirl. Pretty sporting of you guys not to make fun of them or call them out too much on their mistakes.
Umm, I think I'd like to echo the sentiment that the two of you are kind of hard to tell apart voice-wise, which makes it harder to get the caster dynamics going because we can't be too sure who is saying what. The commentary you guys are providing was pretty good, played off each other pretty well. The game was wet and wild enough to provide lots of action, so you pretty much just needed to commentate on the stuff happening, however on low-action farm games, you may need to inject some humor into the casting. When I hear funny or interesting things being said, it makes me want to pay more attention even if there is less action. Maybe not on the scale of the monkey milk discussion, but throw the audience something just to make sure they're still listening.
Another thing was that I'm sure you have a lot of knowledge about the game, item builds, decision-making, what a team or a certain champion will generally want to do, etc. Perhaps you didn't want to seem too tryhard or sound too know-it-all, but you probably do want people to say "his analysis is really good, he has so much knowledge and can communicate it well". Right now how many casters are respected in terms of analysis? Jatt, Dan Dinh maybe, current pros taking a break to cast, and not too many others. If you're not going for the more passionate over-the-top action casting, this may be a more natural niche to fill.
I also think you shouldn't be too afraid to bring in insights or info from outside the current game, like when one guy said "I don't think I've ever seen dorans shields being stacked", the other guy might want to talk a little about the 2 doran/CDR boots vlad that seems to be seen everywhere on streams nowadays, or stanley's wacky 4 dshield Akali build.
If you want some eyeballs and exposure on youtube etc, here's an idea, you could go over the recent s2 championships, pick out some interesting highlights and talk about them from a higher-level perspective, perhaps slow-mo some teamfights or whatever, where you can go over each player's decisions, who the AD carry is shooting, to save or use cc, to hold or blow summoner spells, etc.
Ugh well as much as we want to keep doing this apparently Soniv's Spectator mode is completely fucked so until he gets it fixed somehow, we're kinda on hold. Anyone run into the 'Unable to load Spectator Data' error before? >.<
You might want to start casting gamers without TLers if you want to train for that thing. I think the most appeal your casting has to us is that you are related to the most players you cast games off. That's also the most you talk about inbetween the action. And even if the players are only two TLers and the rest are randoms or friends of them, you still talk about how liquidian X would have done this and so on. If you do this for a non liquid audience, it will obviously fail. So, find a style for non-TL-games.
Your chemistry is really good which makes the stream entertaining, but i sometimes felt like the play-by-lay bored you compared to talking about the ziggs skin or sth like that Might just been, because the level of play wasn't that good.

Just my two cents.
Oh man, in depth analysis on the S2 tournament stuff would be SO COOL.
I just watched the TL inhouse of the 21th and that was pretty good I think. I would just lower a bit Soniv's mic and WaveofShadow needs a bot more intensity in his commentating. The fights were very clear to understand, there were some dicussions about items, the meta, etc... The only annoying thing was probably you guys laughing a bit too much at the start but it didn't last very long. Good job !
Yo Soniv me and my schol hall are doing practice games to prepare for a LAN in K State this Friday later tonight if you wanna cast those. Though we have been havin some slight lag issues in the hall lately, but nothing too detrimental

Any in-depth analysis we could do would pale in comparison to what the guys who are writing up the post-Championship writeup are going to do. I've also watched people re-commentate pro matches before (both SC2 and LoL) and it always just seems inferior to me. If the demand is high enough though I guess.....
As far as casting goes, until Soniv gets his program fixed, we're on hold....

I ran game as admin earlier and it worked, so it looks like we may be back in business.
I'm probably the one you hear laughing because FFSplit captures everything coming through my mic, even the when I'm push-to-talking for TS.

All due props to our TL press team (serious props) but there is a huge difference between a write-up and someone walking you through events visually.
For example, take the following snippet from my game 1 analysis:
Where it all went wrong for TPA was the next teamfight. TPA expected Frost to attempt a flat out retreat after taking dragon, leading Toyz and Stanley to use Anivia's wall and Olaf's axe to try to cut off CloudTemplar and Shy's escape. Frost immediately turned to fight, making the placement of both abilities worthless. If Anivia's wall had been placed to block the rest of Frost it would have at least forced Flashes in order to enter the fight.
Every member of TPA was bunched up, not expecting Frost to simply turn around and fight. As a result when CloudTemplar nailed Toyz with his Bandage Toss all five members of TPA, and most importantly Bebe on Vayne, were caught in Amumu's ultimate. For a critical two seconds Bebe was unable to make any contribution to the fight, wasting a significant portion of Vayne's ultimate. At the same time the stun from Bandage Toss prevented Toyz from exerting any zone control, and when he attempted to use his ultimate Madlife hit him with Sona's, cancelling the Glacial Storm. Toyz was egged before he could do anything significant. While Bebe avoided most of the AoE, these issues allowed RapidStar's Karthus to sit untouched in the middle of TPA for almost the entire fight. By the time Toyz resurrected and TPA burst RapidStar down they were already dangerously low on health. With Woong's Ezreal at full health, Requiem incoming, and TPA's crowd control expended to kill RapidStar, survival was impossible.
Read that all you want, but it will remain fairly abstract unless you go beyond the text. Reading my analysis tells you what happened, reading it with a video of the fight as a reference shows you what happened, but having someone guide you through the fight as a cast involves you in what happened.
What I'm saying is doing a Day9 style, "Here are the important moments in a game, what happened, why it happened, and how you can use this to improve." is valuable. Even if all you do is take the analysis of our subforum's superbrains and present it in the concrete world of the game it occurred in you'd be doing a service to people who are visual learners.

Ah I see what you mean, so more like Day[9] daily style pause-and-analyze. That's definitely doable, though it's really a different kind of thing and not really a cast. Again, if it's something that people want to see we can always add different kinds of content and start creating Youtube vids as well rather than just sending whatever we happen to cast to Youtube.
Sorry for the poor comment but please don't stop being funny on your casts. Trying to stay professional is great but we've got already too many FBI agent-like casting couples on youtube. I really like that your casting sounds casual, relaxed and self-assured, while giving lots of high-level insight and great play-by-play narration. I wouldn't like you to temper your banter or sound too serious. In fact, I'd like you both to be even more "mental" and deviate often.
I think your casting is already really good. Its strongest point is that it isn't boring, as opposed to 95% of the self-entitled casters (including most professional casters). There are a few little things that can be improved, but I can't clearly identify them yet; I'll try to point them out when you upload more videos (so I can notice them by having them repeat casting after casting). But to do that you I need more videos! kekeke

Maybe that sort of show plays more to my strengths than yours. But then people would expect a webcam or something and I'd actually have to be responsible and follow tournaments and teams closely and stuff.
Actually none of that would be all that hard, I just hate advertising.
Also, I totally failed to make you guys any cool graphics when I told Soniv I might. D:
one of you guys kinda boringify the end of all of your statements, which is kind of the opposite of what most casters do (the opposite is annoying too, hyping everything up for no reason)
All of the people confused about your voices makes me think you should periodically, or at least at the start and end of every cast, do some routine like, "This is Wave. *pause* And this is Soniv, bringing you the phat casts up in this riftzle."

I'm going to assume you mean me here since I'm mostly doing play-by-play. I definitely need to get more excited during teamfights. That probably means more daytime casting as waking up sleeping people is probably bad.

We already do at the start, but we were considering this (do we REALLY sound alike that much, or is it because neither one of is from the UK or Australia?) and we'll probably use our names more during the cast itself so as to differentiate.
Honestly I've never had a problem telling the difference between you two, IDK what other people are talking about. If nothing else Soniv's mic quality is noticeably worse.
But then my hobby involves telling birds apart by sound so maybe I'm not the best person to ask.
One thing I noticed (on your latest VoD, the scrim one) was when a dive occured between the two blue bot towers, while Olaf and Jax were fighting. Because of the priorities of the directed camera, it started showing the botlane fight, then switched to Jax killing Olaf and made you miss both the fight top and the kills bot (I believe it was a 2-1 exchange for purple team).
To avoid those things, maybe you should force yourself to switch to manuel camera everytime you want to look at something in particular, even if the camera's currently showing it? That'd allow you to work on your camera control during fights too.
No VODs from last night 'cause we were being scumbags and restreaming and whatnot. There will be more soon though, either tonight or Monday.
Also, for those who paid attention to us last night, thanks so much for watching! Once again if you have any feedback or remember anything about the cast, please don't hesitate to let us know! RP cards are still up for grabs for next time...
You guys needed to harp on the stupidity of that TF support pick more. I'm still trying to figure out how that happened when Lux, Fiddle, or even Orianna would simply have been better in every respect.
I keed. But I still haven't figured out what muffinqt was thinking.
Alright after a mini-hiatus, barring any more midterms, hurricanes or other apocalyptic events, we should be back tonight. (I want to say 02:30 GMT (+00:00)?) Still looking for some more quality casts to send in to AHGL and to improve our skillz. Also still looking for more epic fans. Suggestions for both are welcome.
Hey dude, constructive criticism: You can use the time tag here on TL when posting when you stream. So that I don't have to google what the time is in CEST. I still didn't to redeem yourself and let you save my time! :3

Never used it before but edited my post and now there's a weird -4:00 in there...HOW I DO IT
Edit: Ok, apparently the -4:00 is for GMT - 4, but why put that into the BBCode.....weird. Anyway it should be fixed now. Do you guys see it properly?

chop chop wai u gaiz so lazy? look this thread dead no progress last week. how u be famous casters if u never cast? you gaiz have given me false hope. shame on u 2
We both been busy with end of season and midterms (for Wave). We're figuring things out and we will have more things soon. ^.^
We really want to find higher elo teams to cast (since we had so much fun side casting NESL), but right now we're just relying on inhouses/random replays.

When in doubt you can just cast yourself carrying Wave. That's bound to be hilarious.
VOD from yesterday's game 2 is up! Moar casting (hopefully with a sexy new overlay) on Tuesday evening. As always, feedback is welcome/requested. (Ignoring mic issues, we know that was a bit of a problem at times.)
Well, i don't watch much competitive LoL so my knowledge of what casters are normally like doesn't exist but during the game you guys were actually pretty good and maintained a nice pace during the game. You guys also didn't raise your voices to a scream whenever a teamfight happened so well done for that. Honestly the pregame was kind of boring and maybe could be improved on but then again, there isn't much to talk about then unless the players already have a history. So overall, good first impressions ^_^
There should be a Youtube VOD coming soon (whenever Soniv uploads it) of tonight's game. Alternatively you can watch it directly on the own3d.tv channel.
My only complaint(?) would be that you interact a lot with each other, which seems a bit odd, at least compared to the "pro" casters. Not saying it's bad, just odd. All things considered, I would watch rather watch you then pretty much any caster out there^.^. They are clueless/way too awkward, whereas you are pretty chill.
Best of luck, you two! Enjoyed that latest YouTube, though perhaps you could have mentioned item timings (Aegis etc) or something at some stage? Didn't end up mattering past a certain point w/that match, obviously!
I thought the video was funny. Poor Dora the Explorer award to Requizen. I think it would be overall better if neither of you watched the game ahead of time, which I assume is what you're going for with replay submissions in the future.
One comment is that it would be nice in your casts to line up the champs on the bottom based on role. Minor thing but it makes quickly comparing lanes easier. But overall great job and I love watching your casts!

Yeah, last night's was slightly half-assed because it was done on a whim based on the hilarious game I saw on the weekend. Future episodes will be under more quality control.
On that note: we are looking for replays! If you have a fun replay to send in for Sunday Funday (bad plays, Ultimate Bravery, general craziness, you name it!) please send it to TLTwinCastingGolems@gmail.com and we'll check them out and pick one to do for next week. (Ideally include a short description without spoilers; we want to be as surprised as our viewers!) In the future if this becomes popular enough that we get multiple submissions we'll include a theme for the week, much like Day[9].
Also if you have replays in general that you think would be good for us to cast (ideally high-elo ranked 5s, but we'll accept others) send them in as well!
Also guys if you haven't yet, please follow us on Own3d/Youtube(/Twitter?) just so we can keep track of viewership to see if/when we're improving!

Haha yeah, I forgot to line up the champs before we started, and just never bothered to do it during.
This was real fun for me to cast because it's far more casual for us to do than our normal casts. It's good to get back to roots every once in a while. I'm looking forward to future Sunday Fundays
I don't know what you guys think about this, but I feel like if you foreshadow what's about to happen and stuff in a game you're casting, it's just kinda ehh cause it tends to evolve into you spoiling a lot of stuff that might happen in game. Happened a lot in that Funday Sunday thing cause Wave already saw the game before.

Agreed. Kinda ruined it for me cuz he'd be leading me to see something.
As wave said above, in the future it will be blind for both of us. This started just cuz wave watched a hilarious game.

Solution: get drunk and send us replays without broadcasting that you're drunk in LP so I'm not tempted to spectate.
So, are there ways to support you guys for realz? Besides the whole follow us on twitter deal? I will start collecting replays, do you guys maybe plan on covering certain champs, lane matchups and stuff? I was planning on saving each game I play in S3 and take notes, would that be something you would be interested in? Also, plx get a PayPal account or something so we can donate for uberhardware&stuff.

Honestly, right now the best support you guys can give us is word-of-mouth/viewership. We're doing this for fun and also for you guys, not as any sort of supplementary income. We want to get big and have fun doing it all in the name of E-SPORTS and TL, but I think I speak for both Soniv and I when I say we're not trying to turn a profit right now. Don't worry about sending us donations! Right now our two main goals are getting into the AHGL Casting Contest, which we're just waiting on results right now, and hitting 50 concurrent stream viewers so we can end up on the TSM tracker. You guys can help us out by watching us and/or the YouTube VODs, commenting, subscribing, (Reddit posts? I dunno I've given up on them so maybe someone else could whore it up on there on our behalf) all that sort of jazz. Sending us replays and such really helps as well; I don't think we're looking to branch out into matchups and specific champ commentary and such just yet, but if we get popular enough and people call for it, it's definitely something we could look into.
hey wave i found the tl vs tsm game but its only from when score was 4-6
Real scumbag internet. Guess ill have to play with the community another day! (Posting this from my phone) Anyway, thanks all who watched tonight! Remember to send in your Sunday Funday MANLINESS themed replays before next week with a short description of the game (no spoilers!).
(Neo, the NESL caster search I saw was for EU, was NA looking as well? Also I'm not sure either of us can take on any extra load at this point in time after discussing whether or not we'd look into it. In a month or two mebbe. Having fun at IPL?)
You guys should work on your volume balance. Soniv is like 5 decibels quieter than Wave.
Also, don't sell yourselves short, the average wannabe Deman/Jatt/Joe/Phreak is terrible at casting. Think about how awkward 90% of everyone is at public speaking. Realize that those people are also trying to be casters. Suddenly it makes sense that two guys who have good synergy and don't awkward trip over every sentence and word are in the top 4.
Funday Sunday starting shortly! (I know people are watching IPL5 finals right now, so check out the VODs later on if you MUST be watching something else right now. )

That's a good point. I'll put a little section in the OP with the current Sunday Funday Challenge.
On December 03 2012 12:28 MooMooMugi wrote: Great cast today guys, that TP doran ring strat was hilarious. Where do you guys post your funday sunday rules?
For now we're just sort of talking about we want week-to-week, though it's a little difficult right now since our viewership isn't at Day[9] levels yet, lulz. Mostly we're taking what we can get, but we'll always talk about what we want during each Sunday Funday cast.
This week's theme is STILL MANMODE, since we barely got any replays sent to us. As far as rules go, for this week, use manly champions and make manmode plays. You can interpret that as you wish.
As far as general rules, I'd say pretty anything goes for Sunday Funday, just make sure it's entertaining, and try and keep your trolling in good fun; we don't want anyone getting banned for anything we asked them to do. Inhouses and arranged 5s are definitely easier if you want to avoid getting reported. If you want to send in a replay, make sure you include a short description so we know what we're in for (and whether we should have chat visible or not).
NEWAYZ, this week's Sunday Funday VOD is up! Sorry for the length but this week has been pretty dang busy for the both of us. More to come during the week though so stay tuned!
Just so people can't say we didn't warn them in advance, AHGL pre-season starts tomorrow! Starting at 22:00 GMT (+00:00) your TL Casting Golems will be casting Team Curse vs. Team Epic for the Week 1 Pre-Season match!
On which stream is it? Yours, or AHGL's? The site isn't as crisp as it was for season 1, I don't seem to be able to find real information (it even seems to say that Day9 casts some LoL, which I don't believe to be true).
The comp by epic in this game is really fantastic. A beautiful mix of poke initiation and damage.
the comp is xerath nami corki olaf amumu.
The aoe initiation unlocks the insane range of xeraths nuking to its fullest extent while as well setting up the 1-2 combo of Olaf Corki diving.
suddenly you have an olaf in your face that you can't cc an amumu sitting around that you can't kill with a xerath nuking you down from a screen away and a corki cleaning everything up .
Crs Pluto (6:28): i want soniv to just shoutcast all my games
I'm obv the favorite golem
SO sad. BUT ALSO SO HAPPY THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN New record: 64 viewers!
Thanks to everyone who watched! Not sure what's going on with AHGL VODs yet, but as we said, when we know we'll let you know.
We're still going to do Funday Sunday tonight; not sure anything is gonna top that though. If we get onto the TSM tracker thanks to the earlier cast, someone let us know, and the next time we hit 50+ viewers we will be giving away (2?) $10 RP cards to people in the chat!
Funday Sunday start time tonight 15:30 GMT (+00:00). Be on for your chance to win!!!
Pretty sure I told you this, but my teammates watched the cast and said the camera work was really good and the overall commentary was very good. Not much was said about the strategic analysis by you two, but a lot of them said how they really liked how you guys kept it exciting and showed lots of enthusiasm, keeping the cast interesting to watch.
This is pretty high praise, cause when we watch major tournaments together, we mute pretty much everyone besides Deman/Jatt. They actually listened to you guys, which is already saying a lot. Grats to you guys, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you guys in the future. Can only get better with more experience.
You guys didn't notice that Amumu built both Merc Treads and Spirit of the Ancient Golem. Redundant Tenacity ftw.
The movement speed change was 25 less movement speed on boots, shifted to base movement speed, not 15.
What allowed Pluto's split push to work was first Epic's failure to send anyone back to stop him, and then Epic overreacting and sending both Amumu and Xerath back at once. With either Amumu or Xerath still on the front lines, Pluto would not have been able to save the Nexus.
New Sunday Funday VOD is up! As for the AHGL cast VOD, for now you'll have to check it out on our Twitch channel; AHGL still has to give us the ruling on where the Youtube vid goes.
We are scheduled to be casting Zynga vs. Factset at 22:00 GMT (+00:00) tonight. Unfortunately, Wave is unable to cast with me tonight (real life comes first), so I have employed the help of Scip. Make sure to tune in!
Also: because Wave will be indisposed of, this week's Funday Sunday will be postponed, so the fire challenge will continue through the week.
The cast isn't as smooth as when Wave's here, but it'd be difficult to blame you for it since your duo has less experience together and English isn't Scip's first language. Maybe you should use the 3 minutes delay to talk about runes, masteries and other stuff? Especially since s3 isn't yet figured out, unorthodox setups or corner-cutting builds for the jungle may be interesting for the viewers.
When Soniv mentioned doing the play-by-play instead of Wave I found it interesting since Scip seemed to take the analytical position pretty naturally and you guys just went with the flow. But then Soniv can't help himself and gives analytical opinions from time to time anyway.
When you want to point out the vision, maybe you could use the F1-3 keys more? I haven't seen them used often even in tourneys, but they're really good to help viewers get an idea on the flow of the game and ganks and stuff. Especially since Scip is a jungle main iirc, wouldn't that help him underline stuff?
It's kinda fun because Scip always stays very calm and composed, and even when enthusiastic Soniv's voice doesn't raise too much nor doeshe yell, so you guys are pretty chill whatever's happening.
It was really nice casting with Soniv :3 The worst part is when I start talking about something and something happens and I completely miss it. Multitasking #1 :D.
On December 17 2012 07:55 Scip wrote: It was really nice casting with Soniv :3 The worst part is when I start talking about something and something happens and I completely miss it. Multitasking #1 :D.
np, you still caught that Zyra kill that Soniv missed despite having her recalling on a FactSet ward on his screen for 2s with the FS moving toward her.
About the play-by-play nothing shocked me really, but I'm one to prefer smoothness over excitment so even if Wave clearly shows his enthusiasm more than you (maybe I should say "expresses" rather than shows) you didn't feel out of place. Nor did you try to overdo it to compensate, which is a big plus in my book (casters forcing stuff because they feel you "should" be excited/surprised/yelling at time X kill the mood for me).

Hey all! I know LCS Qualifiers may still be happening at this point tomorrow, but just so you all know, WE'RE BACK!!
At 05:00 GMT (+00:00) Sunday evening Jan. 13, your very own TL Casting Golems will be casting AHGL Season 3 Week 1: EA Games vs. Curse Gaming.
EA are last season's 2nd place winners and Curse's team (as you may know from our first AHGL Pre-Season cast) is incredibly strong this year, so it promises to be a game of epic proportions!
Should be close if Curse can field their regular 5 players. If they can't field their stronger staff players because they're at qualifiers, then I think EA takes it.
Oh wait... I just realized that you used the timezone feature, so when it showed "6:00 CET Sunday evening" to me, it was actually your sunday evening, and not "6:00 PM CET". Welp. I'll see if I watch live, it'll depend on LCS' timing, if it ends early enough I may go to bed instead.
2 hour warning! (Also check the Reddit thread if you haven't already.)
Also if anyone sees this before the game, we may need a Twitch.tv chat moderator for these AHGL casts just in case. If there is anyone who plans on watching all our casts and doesn't mind doing this for us, let one of us know!
As hilarious as I find tranny Eve, you guys might want to avoid that stuff on future AHGL casts. I can easily see people finding that super offensive. (the correct term is "transgendered", that's a very reductive and mean-spirited view of transgendered people, et cetera) I don't have a problem with it, but I believe AHGL is supposed to be pretty universally acceptable because charity.
Also, it's Piltover Peacemaker, damnit.
Other than that, great cast tonight. I'm glad you guys have gotten such great games to show off your skills in.

Technically, I said 'Transvestite Evelynn.' Never said 'Tranny.' So as I was trying to depict a man dressing in women's clothing, I think it was an accurate statement. (Although you're probably right; didn't think at the time. )
So many thing we could have done better too and so many things I missed.... BiggleBuns' perfect positioning. Wrote up a whole list of adjectives to use, forgot to use any of them. Got flustered and stumbled over words a couple times (BIG NO-NO).
And I forgot to say 'Hot damn.' Soniv not happy with me for that one.
Otherwise SUPER HAPPY with how that went. We got mega viewers. Hopefully next week will be just as good. If you guys have any other criticisms for us, please let us know in here. You guys are our family; you don't have to mince words. If you thought we were shit, TELL US! We want to get better FOR YOU.
Oh yeah, there were a few gripes in chat about soniv's notepad document being on the screen. It wasn't obscuring anything, but I guess people just like the shininess of the LoL client.

Hey guys! Great cast! I really enjoyed watching it. I figured I'd pop in and answer some of the questions you guys were pondering throughout the cast:
Why did I build RoA on Evelyn?
I attempted to do several ganks before purchasing, wanting to get an idea of how much they were going to be pink warding and where. With 3 pink wards in the tab score screen, and the enemy tri and dragon both pinked, I realized my ability to do lane ganks in the early game were limited so I instead built for the late game since our comp scaled better than theirs.
I wanted health to protect against feast, since I expected them to be peeling for pluto instead of diving into our AoE comp and I was the only one really diving pluto on our team. Without health, feast will nearly one shot me and everyone else was set on protect bigglebuns duty so I knew I would be its target. This is also why I was building Warmog's as my last item. They didn't have the damage to burst us, so late game would come down to us AoEing them, or living long enough to do more sustained damage than them.
Why did we never try to force baron?
Liquid was super fed on Ryze, who does quite a bit of sustain AoE magic damage. Baron has a increased magic damage taken debuff he applies potentially to the whole team, up to +100% (double damage taken). That was too scary with Liquid's state. We needed to kill him to feel safe doing baron.

Health right now is incredibly strong, and it clearly was the right line of thinking in the end. It was just a build that neither of us had ever seen.

Makes sense. I do think you probably could have forced it sooner. Waiting as long as you did really made Liquid even scarier. You let him farm up bot and top for so long, and he never had to use his TP. We never saw your full AOE ult coordination until the very end, but if you were able to do that at baron, it would have absolutely trashed them.
Why did we only get a few AoE combos off?
We're bad!
Can't wait to see more of your casts, gg!
I lol'd. Thanks and looking forward to casting more!
I was trying to watch the Crs v. EA vod, and at around the 59:00 ~ 1:00 mark, the video cuts out and goes back to the start of the game. It's right when Crs is attempting dragon. Can you guys take a look at it?
Basically 0:30~1:00 and 1:00~1:30 are perfect repeats of each other. Still got to watch the whole game, but it was pretty messed up.

Already looked at it, already emailed twitch.tv about it. I'm assuming it has something to do with Twitch's buggy bullshit servers and since they upload streams in 30 min blocks, the 1:00 block seems to have gotten lost so it started again or some shit. I dunno....ugh.
The worst part about this 30 min system is even if the blocks upload properly, there's still a 3-4s gap in the VODs between intact 30min blocks; this comes into play in the Preseason week 1 VOD, where we lose 4 seconds of a HUGE clutch Amumu Baron ult and Smite steal.
Finished watching the VoD, I'm pretty tired atm so I probably missed a lot of stuff, be it good or bad.
I liked how you talked about items builds at different points, for example not only "what do/did they build and why?" but also "what will they build". You noticed the Shiv on Pluto a bit late I thought, at least later than me, and since you had been talking about how Soniv (I think?) prefers PD on Cait I guess maybe you could have pointed it out earlier, to reference your previous remarks. Btw, it's Wickd that thinks BC is huge on Irelia. He hasn't said why afaik and I don't really see the point of it either (unless she wants to play Olaf "Some do physical and true damage, I do true and true damage").
Another thing I liked is how you pointed out the reason why so few things were happening in the midgame, with the fact that Curse wanted to use Teleport to get Liquid farmed, while taking towers and funneling the rest of the farm on Irelia, during which time EA was trying to setup an ambush to be able to take baron or an inhibitor uncontested. It can really get boring during those phases when you grasp what's happening and you just wait for something to occur (I thought EA was too passive and could have laid a trap to catch whoever tried to ward/could have forced the baron once wards were cleared, and if I was simply spectating in client I'd probably have gotten bored and just waited for somebody to decide they'd had enough) but you did a fine job filling that part and explaining the stakes and objectives while looking at buys and current gold to get updates on the situation.
And those last two fights, wow. But the crit from MF was unforgiving. Really enjoyable overall, both game and cast.
Here, get some edit after a... morning of sleep (fuck). At the start of the VoD I actually liked Soniv' notepad. Well, of course it took a bit of space, but that way you could keep an eye on the info while reading the picks and bans instead of having to remember everything he said. Also Soniv doing his homework. Good job.

Always a pleasure, Gasty. GGWP
Dat Thresh LOL. JITP here I come again.
Roffles has the stuff from our casts actually made it onto JITP? Like, did you actually submit it?
I know I'm always bugging people for this sort of thing, but for those who have watched the cast or VOD, if there's anything you noticed that we suck at or that we need to work on (or even that you liked specifically), PLEASE let us know!
You seemed less enthusiastic (or frantic, if you want) than the last close game you casted, but considering it was more steadily coming back fight after fight rather than manic action, I can get it. Plus it's not like it's particularly a bad thing, just one I noticed without thinking about it during the cast.
(About the only one, actually, was too tired to be able to give a thorough debrieffing after the match. z.z I should just watch the VoDs when I'm fully awake.)

Well, we probably would have been a bit more enthusiastic about the turnaround if my game hadn't crashed right as the comeback fight started lol. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough on my feet to think about rewinding to back before the fight (cuz I'm stupid and not used to using spec mode for everything like that). Oh well, live and learn.

Nah rewinding is a terrible call since we're not synced. Would create a 5-minute hell of 'ok what time are you at?' I honestly think that we did pretty well given the crashes and adapted on the fly as best we could.
You wouldn't have needed any of that 5-minute hell. Just let Soniv cast what was missed. You could have added commentary based on your memory of the fight (as you didn't miss it). Skip forward to live afterward, tadah.

If you skip forward to live you risk missing further action. Without a separate cameraman to control that sort of thing it's really quite difficult if people are watching a(n almost) live match.
I suppose technically you could just fast forward to the place where you left off before rewinding, but again, real aggravating to coordinate that start point.
There is that risk, but it's the sort of thing that they do in high profile tournaments without a second thought when they want to do an instant replay. There's some skill involved in judging the probability of action occurring during the replay, and the judgements made have not always been correct, but when you miss one of the single most important and exciting fights in the match that might be a good time to take a risk.
In the worst case, you could have had Soniv do a post-game analysis of that fight, only without Phreak's magic board.

Monte, high profile tournaments have a 3rd person doing the camera work. You have no idea how much easier it makes everything when you don't have to worry about following the action live yourself and you know someone capable is going to be on the same page as you, panning where you want to be and providing instant replay at a moment's notice.
You make a valid point, but I honestly doubt we are experienced enough to just fly back and check out the action at a moment's notice while trying to do everything ourselves without risk of fucking everything up. Especially since at the time we didn't know what caused the crash in the first place and we might have risked making it worse.
I have plenty of idea, I've done casting before myself and am aware of how much having to talk while manipulating the camera splits your attention. I'm not suggesting this would be easy, but simply that it's a skill you can work on if you want to be better casters. It's fine if you don't feel ready for anything that difficult, but it's not the sort of skill you'll learn without trying it.
I'm pushing back so hard because you seemed very closed to attempting this sort of thing, when I see it as an important place for you two to grow and improve. Maybe not now, but certainly in the future.
It's not that I was closed to doing so. I just didn't think fast enough, and when worrying about everything else going on, it didn't even cross my mind. Clearly inexperience on my part, and I do wish I had backtracked to see that particular fight.

Trust me, I appreciate the input. Personally this is an area that I just don't feel is necessary in terms of improvement since they don't even do this at the highest level. (Although it would improve 'mechanical spec mode skill' to be sure.) There are a million other things I suck at and can improve at that to me seem much more important and have a lower chance of blowing a live cast to hell (ie vocabulary usage, not relying on cliches or fall-back 'safety phrases,' non-shitty analysis, your show helps with that!)

It actually did cross my mind, but I didn't want to risk it, especially since I'm pretty sure since you're not actually in the game at that point, spec mode doesn't 'record' it, so there would have been no way for you to go back anyway. When this kind of thing happens, I know LoLReplay creates a separate file out of the second part of the game with anything previous to it lost.

Yeah, fanboying over Twin Shadows easier. I just finished watching the VoD, that sounded so qt. I assume you're doing your advertising via youtube rather than Twitch VoDs, by the way? Since you were talking when you started about sounding professional and stuff, I was a bit surprised to hear one of you belch during the lobby, sounded like the kind of stuff you wanted to avoid.

The VoD for twitch automatically uploads everything from when the stream turns on.
Wave claims that I didn't tell him I turned the stream on.
The actual VoD for AHGL is locally and manually recorded separately from the stream, so that burp should have been avoided in the actual VoD.
Point of Criticism: I know it's really late and you're casting with an unfamiliar partner, but you need to avoid dead air. There's been a lot of it and it's painful.

Oh trust me, I know. It's very difficult to cast with someone who is not very experienced (not to badmouth Navi or anything; his analysis was amazing and 100x better than anything I could attempt to give) and doesn't know when not to talk or when to try and add something during dead time. The people in twitch chat were picking up on it and it was painful to read too.
Navi, if you ever want to try casting again let me know, though I'll have to give you a few pointers first. It's a subtle art.
Man did the chat get ugly toward the end with all those people flaming each other and spewing stuff about racism and like 75% of the stuff being said in Chinese (not that I'd mind, but well, what were they doing here since it was a restream for English commentary? ). I guess it comes with success. 'grats on the viewers numbers nonetheless, guys!
Wave and Navi casted the G-league finals between WE and iG (restreamed a muted Chinese stream and commentated over it). Peak concurrent viewers: around 2k. The chat was nice till somewhere near the end where apparently Chinese people came in and started flaming/getting flamed. (At least I haven't seen people criticising Wave/Navi too harshly in chat, but maybe that was when fatigue made me pay less attention.)
I tried to contact you last night but you didn't respond. I figure it probably would have been too late for you anyway or you were busy. Get on Skype/FB at some point before tomorrow.

It's actually a really good idea - finding a gap in the market and making it your own is a surefire way to get noticed.
Bumping for playoffs week 1!! We cast at 5:00 PM EST, Microsoft v Google Bo3!! Voting also starts for the So You Think You Can Cast contest so log into the AHGL site and vote for your favourite casters beginning today!! http://afterhoursgaming.tv/league-legends-season-3-a-league/casters/
Lol I forgot to make a post, I was supposed to. Our next cast is going to be Monday evening, April 1st! AHGL semi-finals and (technically) the finals of the AHGL So You Think You Can Cast contest!!
If you guys haven't voted for us yet, there's plenty of time to do so!
Just in case people wanted to know, Soniv and I won the casting competition! We are going to have a highlight reel and some 'story' featuring us during the AHGL finals casted by Riot, as well we'll be casting the B League finals Sunday April 21st.
We couldn't have done it without you, TL!! Much <3!!!!!!!
dem bindings from SirSpam in game 1, I think he hit almost of those he attempted while on screen. S&M had some surprising engages, like when they lost 4 for 1 and Qualcomm attempted Nashor. OH WTF. That finish. That... escalated quickly. "0K one team wants to siege and the other one wants to engage? Well... NONE OF THEM WILL HAVE IT!"
