I assumed the last slot would be Maru, herO or Reynor and nothing I’ve seen changes that. My heart wants Reynor but my head says Maru. Cure is in his best match up and has a history of beating Maru he can lean on. That being said, herO beating both of them would not be surprising at all. Don't count Cure out in a Bo3 against Maru

For players at this level that’s quite a lot of study material, especially given how BO and trick dependent PvZ tends to be. Regardless of who makes it out we’ve some tasty Ro4 matchups in store!

Also, did any player tried to make a show out of their "key crushing" ceremony? I think it has to feel awkward because you probably don't want to be mean to the guy you just beat.

Even including Oliveira in that. Katowice was an incredible run but overall his career doesn’t really merit elevation above a lot of this field. I know I point it out a lot but I’m not an Oliveira hater by any means, love his play. But even in his old man ex-military phase Classic is no slouch, and he’s the man with far more results in prestige tournaments so I don’t think it’s some huge upset.

I’d love to know, I really would. Being a big general sports fan nut I’ve seen many a tournament or innovation when Saudi money is involved that goes against tradition, which is no bad thing in and of itself. But quite frequently they are awful ones. ‘Let’s take snooker, do a big money tournament and add a new ball!’ After the whole ‘what are the balls in snooker?’ was largely settled in the 19th century Great you’ve got a ton of money on the table (pun intended), little actual audience because quel surprise snooker isn’t big in Saudi Arabia, and the traditional fan base isn’t that interested because you’re fucking with the rules of the game. I will concede that it’s also possible that ESL’s existing folks decided to go this way. They’re not really afraid to shill for the whole shebang, hell the casters spent as much time at Katowice talking about EWC permutations than the actual big, huge, historic World Championship event with years of history they were actually commentating on. But I think it’s pretty symptomatic of how these sportswashing exercises got, I know where my bet would go on where the wonky as fuck format is coming from.

I think if he pushes even 3/4 seconds later Cure has his second tank out and sieged and it’s probably enough to delay for his much superior eco to pump out enough to hold
