why is it a bo5 in the qualifying match of the open qualifiers that lead into the closed qualifiers but only a bo3 in the closed qualifiers that lead directly to the main tournament? that makes absolutely zero sense at all..

or did I just misread the format on liquipedia?

Upper Bracket Quarterfinals are Bo3
Remaining Upper and Lower Bracket matches are Bo5
Qualifying Matches are Bo7

How did it come to pass that Bunny/Stats and Showtime/Elazer play against each other in the first round? Was this done by EPT Points seeding? Because if it was by draw, why wasn't there a "no same region in first round"-Rule in place?

Edit: If it was done by points it would mostly hold up, just trigger and Elazer would need to swap.

That is pretty mental now you mention it. Coulda been even more if the prize distribution wasn’t so top-heavy too!

Paying the 12-18th place players 15k is already pretty generous imo.

No offence but those players games are usually not as exciting or hyped in these kind of big tournaments because we know all of them are not even remotely close to having a chance to winning it

For example 15k is already a big step up in pay for players such as coffee, Astrea, gumiho,

Well such is the problem with throwing money at a mega tournament such as this in a scene that is in the state that it’s currently in.

Certainly wouldn’t have been my first choice in how to use that kinda fund

I think the competitive SC2 scene is awesome. The players are great. The games are wild. The maps are brilliantly crafted. The coverage of the events is great. There is just not much money in it.

I think the Intercounty Baseball League is better than Major League Baseball. Intercounty baseball players make 30K and have other jobs. MLB players are all on steroids and HGH and make hundreds of millions of dollars. They are all well on their way to looking like Andre The Giant, Joe Rogan, and Barry Bonds due to all the HGH they've been taking for many years.

money ain't everything man.

you do make a good point that the money is not well spent. if the Saudi's took the money and spread it around to every person that holds weekly and monthly events that'd be ideal. Wardi would be a rich man... and he'd have earned every dime.

I personally prefer this current setup. One big prize pool for one tournment. Feels more hype/excited knowing the importance of this game / series.

It’s more hyped it’s not how a sustainable scene works

Yeah I kinda get that, professional sport can hit a point where the fun is sucked out of it. Or the competitive balance or whatever. Any number of things, I’m a giant multi-sport freak and I’ve seen it enough

GG Shin, but I really hope Showtime pulls through...losing three important Bo7s in the span of ~two weeks doesn't feel right

Germany has a way bigger advantage in ping with both players on NA east server than KR has when they are on west though. Though ping probably impacts Toss micro a bit more than Zerg. Still overall server switching gives most of the western EU countries the advantage. Ironically it's only Serral out of the top EU pros who is actually on pretty equal ping terms with KR in online events.

Might be true buyt you could really see how different showtimes control looked from game to game in the fights.
