PiGFEST 4.0 IS HERE!
With the sad news of Blizzard no longer funding StarCraft 2 esports, we decided to host PiGFest 3.0 in March 2023 where an incredible $17,728.31 was raised. We capped that event at $10,000 which means PigFest 4.0 already kicks off with a $7,728.31 prize pool and counting!
QUALIFIER DETAILS
Qualifier 1: 4 spots available
Qualifier 2: 5 spots available. WHO GETS THE 5th SPOT? The players who place 5-8th will play a mini 4-person tournament to determine the final slot. Bo3 ro4, then bo5 to determine the spot. These matches are to be played within 3 days of the qualifier (by end of 18 Sep)

PRO TOURNAMENT DETAILS
Format: Single elimination bracket held over 5 days. Ro16 will be best of 5. Ro8, Ro4 and Grand Final will be best of 7.
Schedule: 20-24 September 2023, starting at 12pm CEST / 8pm AEST each day. The first four days will each have two ro16 matches, with the winners facing each other in the ro8 on the same day - making it like a mini 4-player tournament to see who goes through to the Semifinals.
Players: The top 8 players of the last event were invited to take part in PiGFest 4.0. Only Oliveira declined his invite.

I am a Chinese fan but I got to say I'd never seen another world champion with such mentality like Oliveira.
It's like since Katowice all he's been doing is to replicate the feat to prove that was not a fluke. But from the very beginning there is nothing to be proven at all.
That championship did have a strike of luck in it but he also needs a quite strong ability to realize it which he does. His result at gamers8 was ok-ish and he should really stop thinking only a top 4 or even a championship finish is a good result and resume enjoying the game without any mental burden.

Don't know how ByuN MaxPax is a first round match, especially when both were the invited players, expected like ByuN Spirit and Dark MaxPax or something cuz of the storylines (Spirit has been improving in TvT a lot but has not had many chances against KR terran in general; while Dark MaxPax is just the potential for anything under the sun). But still, definitely will be watching, cheering on ByuN as two previous PigSty champs go at it

Until Maru moving away from playing the same damn build against Serral, Clem is the best shot we have.

Feels like Serral vs Clem is the big match that most often delivers these days.
Will be interesting to see if roaches become standard in ZvT in the new patch.

Great first day. Serral vs. Clem is a banger of a series. Clem is really the only terran right now who can push Serral to his limits. Conversely, it's astounding how Serral can come back from a deficit even in the most fast-paced and grueling series against his strongest opponent. Clem's non-stop action can be mind-boggling. And actually Serral admitted in the interview afterwards that the series was "too exciting" for his taste, haha.

I dont get how Maru play so predictably aggressive in TvP into predictably passive in TvZ and greedy in TvT. Like he doesnt mix up his build order and keep doing the same timing push and get blocked by Protoss defense and went behind everytime.

Maru mixes cheese strats quite a bit, sometimes vs "weaker' opponents and bites him back tho.

Maru weakness has been committing 2-base into Protoss defensive build, or doing a blind Medivac Widow Mine drop that fails. The games hes playing more macro-orientated he has been winning.
Edit: And guess what, hes done another 2 base all-in on the biggest map to lose AGAIN. Dude probably has a horrible win rate when he does 2-base push.

Great Series, I think Maru aggressive stance does not pay off vs herO at all.

He was up 3-1 playing a very solid series, and then lost 3 games in a row by doing a greedy 3CC, blind widow mine drop into Phoenix and a 2-base push. He just doesnt like playing to win, or his early planning just sucks.

Amazing set of series again today. PigFest is delivering again so far. Also super impressed with Nightmare, Maru's TvP is not at its strongest but still, pushing him to game 5 is really impressive.

Serral is unholy. Dominant series against Bunny.
Bunny played really well, though. But it seems his strength drops off a fair bit in the lategame. His midgame pushes are terrifying.

IDK what Bunny is doing in that G4. Serral has like 3 expansions out there happily mining with no protection at all, and Bunny was doing nothing about it, just hopelessly trying to push front while getting back stabbed nonstop.
The only Terran that has a chance of beating Serral is Clem.

I feel like the moment top Zerg like Serral got used to the big map pool, they just steamroll all the Terran in macro game. People keep saying the big map is good for Terran, but thats ONLY if you can split it up and mine out the whole map. But Zerg will just keep hitting left and right with Nydus/drop to force the Terran from making a mistake and jump on it. I would like to see how things are with the coming smaller map pool

Thats Just a General Thing imo, the longer a meta/mappool stays around the better zergs (esp the top lvl ones) become as they can just optimize their Playstyle perfectly to the Maps and/or Meta.

It's crazy that every single series went to full 7 games in quarter finals and grand finals.
A bit bummed that we didn't get a herO vs Serral finals. They haven't really played a bo7 before.

I especially liked having the RO16 and RO8 for the same 4 players on the same day. It generates a neat storyline each day, because you see the same players play two series in a row.
