I like tasteless and artosis but this game was a great miss-cast. solar really played a great early and a decent midgame (only the creep spread was medicore through the harashment). the casters really didnt cast the game the way it was going. im very suprised how well solar got into the lategame beside maru was doing decent damage in the midgame. really well played by both.

I don't know, Solar went done a lot of drones and Maru match solar in expansions and up to 99 scvs. Usually thats a good sign for a T

The casters didn't catch Solar losing 25 drones at once either yet it wasn't enough.
Maru's style in TvZ is so hard to play, I wonder if he ended up playing this way because of his injury but it doesn't seem lighter than the regular one on hands & shoulders and you have to grind Z into resources depletion every other game...

it may be the better style at that level though as the top Zergs like Dark, Reynor, Serral or even Solar on a good day seem almost impenetrable against midgame-pushes

As it's Maru's choice one would tend to agree but it seems so borderline impossible to do... Only ghosts have energy while you have to fight against free units (broodlings) and vipers/infestors. Sure one good nuke can turn tides (hi IEM Solar) but one positional or micro mistake and you're done. Very impressive to watch from both players involved and it really looks like a battle of will but holy shit!

It is not lighter on actions, but it is lighter on mouse movement compared to good ol' bio pushes imho.

Yeah the control is obv hard but those armies donmt fuck up your wrists as much as you dont need to be as 'speedy', which is why (i think) dark also switched to the more technical lurker armies in zvt instead of the speedy ling bane amries.

He did try to break Solar early with the hellbat, it just didn't work so he decided to grind it out, I don't think it's a bad decision, opening up the game with harass and pushing the pace of the game doesn't seem to work anymore as a way to come back zerg have gotten to good.
Oh by the way Artosis cursed Solar so... And I remember a Cure vs Serral game where Cure managed to win a mined out map with a couple units remaining, more or less like this last game.
Damn it, I missed Maru Solar. That was the one I wanted to see. Oh well this group is still stacked and I'll get to see at least one more Solar TvZ if not two.

Cure will be demolished by Solar if "online" Cure doesn't appear.
What a contrast. First series insanely good, the 2nd one of the worst I've seen (at least it was funny... :D). I hope Maru and Solar advance although I've LBd Cure

I think it's very a different skillset from the one terran normally practices. Most terrans have historically gotten success by playing a fast-paced game and outplaying the opponent in terms of multitasking and micro in the midgame.
However, beating Lurkers late-game requires a completely different mindset. You don't want to trade armies, instead you want to play a more controlled and "strategically" well-thought out game while being good at using multiple different control groups.
When terrans complain about lurkers imba, what they really are saying is that "it's imba when I am am trading armies". But lurkers are not imba if you play a defensive style and get a critical mass of siege tanks. But terran players are just not attempting to learn that playstyle because their mindset is so determined to just attack-attack - that's what TvZ has been for 10 years.
I think eventually all terrans need to learn that playstyle - it's either that or they need to be so superior in the early midgame (as Clem is) that they generate significant enough leads in that stage of the game.
Heh. Maru probably should have all hexagons full except mentality. Letting Dream waste energy on his Ravens while keeping his full energy for the push was insane tactics and game sense. Very well done
1 lucky win for Dream where Maru missed that Dream kept on building Reapers but other than that Maru really dumpstered Dream in all 3 games, especially 1 and 3 obv.

I feel like Hurricane will have an epic pvz in the quarter first, then get destroyed in 30 minute by Maru
he faces Maru in the ro8 though
Is it set in stone?
First place of Group B plays second place of Group A and vice versa. Same deal with groups D and C.
It always works that way doesn't it? Ever since they started doing Group Selections which was AGES ago.
im starting to think Nakajin didn't realize that Hurricane already advanced :D
Nah I had just forgot GSL didn't do draw for the playoff. As an excuse I recently switch from an evening shift to a normal shift, so watching GSL is a new luxury for me

I think only Maru is capable of playing that defensive turtle style and suceed with it. His game sense is incredible and always match the tech choice with the Zerg almost instantly. Like making Tanks before Lurker is out, and then Ghost before Viper is out, and switch to Thor & Viking before Brood Lord reach critical mass. It take great experience and set-up to pull that off and I havent seen that style done much by other Terran players. The drawback for this is sometimes Maru getting way too passive in this match, mostly spend time to set up defense, while he could have done more damage by pushing in the front. Like that game 1 vs Solar, Maru was matching base economy to the Zerg, and could have made an army to push and kill Solar in mid-game. He instead chose to stay behind and turtle up, allowing Solar to take more of the map and get up on economy.

You would be correct if lurkers werent mobile. If you look at all the seige units in starcraft, lurkers are the most complete unit. Durable, fast and instant unburrow repositioning, good range, insane dps and requires detection. Literally the only downside is they cant shoot up. Combine that with the overall mobility and map presence of zerg,it is just way too hard for terran to cover more than 4 bases.
