It seems he prepared a lot for this series. He brought 4 very specific strats to take out TY.
Unfortunately, TY did 3 things that, simply by luck honestly, countered what parting was doing, with the hellion drop comping earlier than Parting's strats. Or the Marauder push.
TY is a great player, but I can understand Parting being in disbelief in how much he prepared and how fast things went wrong. Let's be honest, he could have won some of those games, in most other circumstances he would have.
So I completely understand that he hanged there until the end. It's a shame he lost, but he is still a great player and I wish him luck in his future games. TY may not be prepared to Parting's specific builds. But he probably knew Parting had some sharp timing builds prepared, so TY's overall strategy was to be aggressive, seize the initiative from the start, and not let Parting get into any rhythm. Going aggro against Parting is probably a risk that can go horribly wrong. But it's probably unfair to say TY got lucky? This was already his game plan in season 1. Get in PartinG's face before he got in TY's.
Yes, I saw that entire series too. TY lost 1 game because he underestimated Parting's commitment to blink-into-base-and-win. Otherwise, TY was pretty much solid and in control that series - just like this series.
Sure, Parting prepared and played his heart out. But TY doesn't seem to get as much credit for his preparation and mental fortitude as well.

Alright come on guys, give us the best series of the Ro8. Even though it's a PvP, this shouldn't be too much to ask.

Stats and Trap are arguably the remaining 'favourites'. No one would've bet on DRG, Rogue and (slumping) TY reaching into RO4 at the start of the season.

One thing I miss about HotS PvP is Artosis rambling about forge timings

Protosses are never favorites to win against a Zerg. And at the beginning of this season TY was easily much more likely to reach the Ro4 than Stats.

But people assume Zergs would've been nerfed this season

Stats please beat TY man...

That was weird btw. Like obviously Trap wanted to get something done cause Stats got the 3rd so much faster. But he should have known committing so hard would be suicidal.

Yeah. Though everything else being equal I do think that at the beginning of the season even a slightly slumping TY seemed better than a Stats that hasn't had a big result in a while. Stats only really overperformed online after the season began.

To me, TY remains a favourite. But based on his recent performances, most people were writing him out.

Stats' control is forever underappreciated tbh

2020 and Stats is still a god
|
My favorite thing about stats is how much you can learn from him. The stuff he does looks much more doable than someone like Parting.
|
That was clean. Stats had built up his lead, found Trap out of position and pounced.
