Saying that players who are more entertaining on their own aren't a factor (at all?) is kinda naive though. Ofc a bigger playerbase would help, but so would a lot of other things including players who are actually a bit more interesting when they open their mouth. faceless korean, faceless foreigner is real to some extent Do other games have more interesting players?

I am not saying that bigger personalities cannot develop still, but it's worth pointing out that player personalities are a big factor, not just gameplay, playerbase, etc.

In the end the better player wins most of the time. The only times when balance was a serious problem was early wol terran, BL/Infestor and Blink era. "Blink-era" was some 3-6 months and pretty much the only time when protoss has been up in winrates for a significant time period. And even then, almost every protoss win was done by the champion-level protosses who for a big part are still the protosses that manage to go far in tournaments (and even win em). In western scene, blink-period didn't even have that much significance (did any western protoss win anything with blink during that period?) That's not to say that blink-dominated period was fine, though. What is going on with zerg now and was with bl/infestor is that everyone and their mother who play zerg seems to go far at some tournaments. If these 10 zergs hadn't gone into ro16, there was still TLO, TRUE, Lambo, iAsonu, Sen, Toodming, JonSnow and Zansters who went out at ro32, and nobody would have batted an eye if they had been ones in ro16. Meanwhile, every protoss except Dns who reached even ro32 are or have been championship-caliber players who have been around for a long time. So, I think it is not insignificant that this horde of zergs populate player lists while players like Harstem and Showtime can't make it into ro32.

Balance is only relevant at the highest level aka in korea.

Thing EG did back in the day. (also in other games when people stream it is easier to talk to chat, etc. That matters as well i think) Again, simply saying this is part of the whole and it matters. Ofc there are lots of issues.
