Polt/viOLet shouldn't be eligible so they're just laddering to deny others?

Why shouldn't they be eligible?
Both got a permanent visa and live in the USA.

Are the requirements different from the passport qualifier for WCS Circuit events?

I have a question what happens to the spots that Hydra/viOLet/Polt/SelecT/PiG/PiLiPiLi are taking since they can't participate in the passport qualifier???

He played protoss last season and had over 400 games played.

This page says it's citizenship-locked.

I think the reason viOLet/Polt/Hydra are playing the na ladder is because of that 100 win requirement each month that was announced with the WCS changes i could be wrong doe.

Reading it over again, it doesn't actually say what the requirements are. I guess it's something they're still figuring out. It talks about the requirements for citizens and non-citizens and says that residency requirements apply and additional residency requirements may apply for some spots. I'm guessing that if the requirements they outlined before were the exact ones that applied, then they would have referred to them specifically. But they didn't so who knows. For other WCS Circuit events (not the Championship) that are required to have these 2/2/1/1/1/1 qualifiers, it says the spots are citizenship-locked and doesn't mention residency.

I got an official response. Polt Violet and Hydra are eligible

For the North American Challenger tournament, only residents and citizens of North America (Canada & U.S.) will be eligible to qualify.

They are residents so they are eligible. I think it should be passport qualifiers esp since the odds of them making Top8 during the championship is quite high, them being in challenger just screws over whoever gets them early on in the bracket.
I think whoever is qualified for the championship shouldn't be eligible to play in challenger even tho it means less money for those players, it just doesn't seem faire otherwise when you are trying to qualify for the main tournament.

They should of did regional challengers for all regions before the other qualifiers in my opinion would be the best for the players.

Didnt think they were residents though. They live here, but they dont have residency. They have that athlete visa as far as I know which is just a visa, and not something like a greencard which grants residency. Unless we aren't using the legal definition of residency, and rules actually mean to say that they just live here.

On the topic of the challenger tournament, ESL did make a comment a while ago about how they thought challenger should take place before the qualifiers.

These WCS changes/new requirements are extremely confusing. Seems like even the pro players are kinda out of the loop on this one.

This is so amazing.:D, no more barcode, a true compétition on ladder and so on... Too bad the matchmaking is weird (why some people have inferior winrates yet same points than others who face the same opponents?), and that we can't see KR battle out like that on ladder.

Really wish I didn't have to work so much this week.... Laddered for like 6 hours when GM opened and got to rank 4 but now I only have 2-3 hours to play each day until challenger cutoff. Can't maintain top 16 like that

I feel your pain, I didn't even bother trying because I can't play 6 hours a day except for weekends. If you win all your games for 2 hours everyday you can do it though :p

Qxc is always announcing his "retirement" and than somehow appearing again. Retirement really doesn´t mean anything
in sc2 anymore, this applies to a lot of pros. There are many more who come up for a bit and revanish. :D

Interesting things to note:
-Neeb has almost caught up to hydra despite having about half the games played, strong favorite to get 1st.
-11/25 players are Terran, but none of the top 4
-Several notable players are not top 25, including Scarlett (rank 191 NA, rank 20 EU however), HuK (rank 29), and Petraeus (rank 103)
-The random player ranked 42 right now is Korean caster Canata

Qxc is always announcing his "retirement" and than somehow appearing again. Retirement really doesn´t mean anything
in sc2 anymore, this applies to a lot of pros. There are many more who come up for a bit and revanish. :D

I am still retired. I'm taking a few days off from working on my board game to try my hand at the ladder competition. Consider this a short break from retirement...

Is State still trying to place in the top 16? His win ratio is good.

The amount of points Scarlett needs doesnt seem undoable. The difference between 16 and where she's at now isn't overwhelming

well I guess it depends on how much she's still getting for a win

When I checked match history, she's getting about 20 per win. That'll decrease as her rank does though. She's at 828 now and top 16 cut off is at 963, but other players are also laddering so that will increase too.

These seems like unintended bullshit. Why neural them if you can't use their attack despite being able to launch it in the first place?

Currently at 10:27 PM EST...

SeleCT at 14th place?????? And the standings look so tight between 9th to 20th with less than 50 points difference.

Wait disruptors do splash damage to allied units EXCEPT other disruptors? Well you learn something every day.

EDIT: Also in the neural situation shouldn't it be considered the Zerg player's disruptor if its neuraled? Even if the intention is to not allow a protoss player to hit their own disruptors its not their disruptor in that present moment

This is such a weird situation. The key here is to win, but win quickly, so it might be a better idea just to cheese every game.

I think Blizz needed to fix the ladders so only the top 50 can play each other starting the a day or two before the decision.
Its going to be a glorious day, I feel my luck could change

EDIT: Also in the neural situation shouldn't it be considered the Zerg player's disruptor if its neuraled? Even if the intention is to not allow a protoss player to hit their own disruptors its not their disruptor in that present moment

Yeah, but as Scarlett said, she cancelled the neural before the nova went off so the disruptor reverted to Protoss control.

That sounds like some shit feardragon should have told everyone on reddit by now. I blame him for not doing so.

So maybe feardragon was wrong, or it changed in the intervening time?

What happens if 2 players have the same number of ladder points? Does it go to win/loss record?

It feels like game lengths are decreasing as we approach midnight, not that LotV games are that long to begin with.

So will Violet be forced to play as protoss in the tournament? Seems unfair if he can qualify as protoss and then play zerg

I don't think so. It wasn't in the rules anywhere. Also I'm not sure why you consider that unfair.

Do games that are in progress at midnight count towards the final ranking?

Okay, I got these screen shots like, 5 seconds after the clock turned over. These should be as close to official as it gets.

From what I've been told, MaSa's game finished 30 seconds into the hour. HuK's first image he tweeted should be accurate.

Does the GM page in game actively update? Because I loaded it the second the hour rolled over, and the screen shot was like 15 seconds after that at absolute max.

Not that I know of but this is from MaSa himself confirming that he finished 10th, and 5th 30 seconds after the hour changed.

Holy shit, why so few games Scarlett?

Would've been so easy with a few more games with that winrate. This was the last chance right?

Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Lotta these people already qualified. They really participating to potentially knock out those who aren't? And what happens when Hydra or Polt wins :< qualified player just goes down the line until it's someone new?

Nah if someone who's already qualified get 1st place, they get the prize money for 1st but the next non-qualified player gets the spot.
So there's still 2 spots available.

In the EU qualifier that means only 2 non-qualified players have to get knocked out for the other 2 to get the spots regardless of their result.

I see, so the fact there's a prize pool is what's causing the cutthroat nature. Personally I would have preferred to see 16 non-qualified people duke it out but when there's money... yeah..

That's why it will be done the other way around next time i think : top 16 qualifier then the normal qualifiers.

Late to the party on this but when I did it, the neural parasite wasn't canceled after the disruptor shot was fired. Scarlett was saying it doesn't kill the other disruptors if you cancel the neural before the nova [goes off].

So you can still control the charge after neural is cancelled but it doesn't do damage to the disruptors? That seems odd.

On a related note to the whole being able to control a charge after the neural parasite is canceled, the charge shot is the same as the adept shade logic seen here:

So apparently there's a bit of controversy and the brackets on the front page are wrong

Intense is now playing Polt, not Neeb. (Since deleted)

The Official brackets confirm what Intense is saying
There is no understanding. There is only Choya. Choya is the way. Choya is Love. Choya is Life. Has is the Light in the Protoss Dark and Nightmare is his chosen Acolyte

Yea we looked into it and found there was a mistake, brackets have been updated to match Blizzard's publicly released tweet rankings.

There's a reason a lot of people say he's the NA player right now. He's super solid, it's a shame he seems to have no interest in joining a team or committing 100% to Starcraft

Player qualifies and takes a spot.

Doesn't show up and gets walked over.

This is the most NA Starcraft thing to exist. I wish you made it easier for me to like you, NA scene. I've cheered for you for so long to succeed and do well, and I still want it to happen. But come on.

If you are talking about NoRegret, he isn't qualified for the season finals yet.

The time of this bracket wasn't announced before the qualifier... The only way the organizers do things works is if everyone participating has a completely open schedule to commit to SC2. Completely unreasonable. Some absences are definitely the fault of players but the people running things do not make it easy.

Do we know know the reason for his absence? Because unless we do I would think we should hold off any judgement against him.

And then the next guy who thought he now had his weekend free has to clear his schedule again to make it. And what are the chances someone knows 100% they won't make it anyway? Best to just keep your spot and if you don't make it, apologize that extenuating circumstances kept you from showing up. No loss from the player. Unless the organizers are gonna pull the old "announce a rule after the fact" trick to punish a behavior that they didn't have the foresight to prevent. The point of announcing dates and times far in advance is to give players more time to make arrangements and reduce the chances of these problems occurring.

Masa kept dying to roach/ravager pushes.

He tried hellbat timings and got crushed in both those games to the counter attack, first time by just lings right before his armory finished, 2nd time was game 5 and he just died to the counter attack after his hellbat timing to fended off.

Don't remember the other game he lost, I think he just lost to a roach/ravager comp though.
When I think of something else, something will go here

Unless I'm not thinking straight the winner of State/puck is guaranteed at least a tiebreaker for the 2nd spot, as the winner of Jonsnow/(pilipili/pandabearme) will have the 1st spot, and the losers of both (State/puck) vs (Masa/HuK) and that previous match will be out at the same time

Nice patient play by him, although i feel like polt could have won if he just threatened neebs natural more agressively, when he didnt have thermolance yet.

im mostly watching Polt and Hydra games

some of the hype is gone though since they are already invited based on WCS points

so even if they lose this qualifer to some uber legit foreigner play (NEEB), they are still in the tournament

its would be more exciting if Neeb beating Polt, actually meant that Polt might be out ya know

sometimes it just looks impossible to shut down lurker pressure with only a ground army. lurker hydra looks so strong. maybe need colossus, definitely need tempests.

Lurkers are fine, old collosus would be a good start though. It is kind of stupid that toss requires tempest to counter libs though, and in the cast games that you see the toss win vs libs its either by outplaying, stork, or by being ahead already, see eu/na quals. I've seen some post about tech lab for libs...thats probably too much, maybe health?

Maybe libs could be changed to have a slightly lower attack speed, but does more single-target damage. That way it's harassment potential is lowered since more time to react to liberators and less shots will go off in attempt to kill it with queens/stalkers, and it will compensate for the terrible state mech is currently in vs zerg.

Idk, I'm not a balance genius. Take this as you will :p

Yeah it's literally impossible to scout unless the protoss can somehow see the overlords leave/morph. Neeb was super close to seeing it, but once it's in your base with queens down it's GG, especially when Warp Tech isnt finished and is cancelled. But that would only really be the case on Ulrena since toss cant air scout the air space.

It's very rare you see an NA player do something like that.

Kid is the next foreign hope if he decides to commit to starcraft

The awesome thing about Neeb is he stays so quiet and dormant within the scene and comes out and dominates, doesnt cause drama, and shows good games. That is commendable, especially without a real team.

Well damn, that was awesome Neeb. Congrats!

LiquidNeeb, let's do this!

Both winners of the challenger league are teamless, that can not be!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

It's fun how the wiki for this WCS puts ZvP at 62.5% even tho Neeb won the whole thing. That's because he only needed to beat one Zerg, and that was 3-2 vs Hydra (sick stuff, grats!).
It is also the only matchup that stays consistent when compared to WCS EU (58.8%), while the other two non mirrors are basically opposite (!)

And ye I know it means nothing about balance or anywhere similar because of the super small pool of games. Still kinda fun to check this stuff from time to time.

Neeb vs. Hydra and Neeb vs. Polt would both be recommended, I think.

Wow, someone think similar to me.

I especially like this suggestion because it makes it easier to differentiate it from the tank as it gives the Liberator a huge overkill whereas the Siege Tank could be buffed by increasing its attack speed.
