People tend to have a distorted memory of 2012 due to the last 2-3 months, but 2012 was probably the biggest year for Starcraft. MLG and IPL were still huge, alongside WCS and GSL + a wide array of others. | ||

There was too little infrastructure, too few tournaments and too little money to go around in a scene that almost doubled its player pool in a short timespan. Either tournaments had to grow, or player pools had to shrink. Organizers attempted to attract enough viewers to merit huge prize pools but couldn't, and imploded. See IPL, MLG. | ||
