I got hope for Bunny. He had the entire pool of 14 minus SortOf to choose from, and from all those people he picked Starbuck. So he should have a good chance.

Why does Bunny not just make a safety tank early game against Starbuck? Or why doesn't he keep his banshees at home or build blind marauders or something?
Looks like Pomi's gotten both his first two predictions to the point. He predicted ForGG 3-0 Dayshi and Starbuck 3-1 Bunny at the start of each series.
He's obviously biased towards Bly but if it makes Bly win, it's worth!

So, Bunny had half his forces across the map, but didn't bring them back to fight the roaches. Uhh, I don't get it. Second, Bunny didn't have any units at the front of Starbucks natural to scout any units that were coming. He's made so many mistakes.
Win the first game vs roaches just fine and then lose the next 3? WTF. Should've made a early safety tank from game 3 onwards, but was either stubborn or didn't want to adjust his plan so he just dies to roaches 3 times in a row.
The spirit of Mondragon is strong in Starbuck. Thanks to these games I really want to ladder right now. Making roaches has been one of my most favourite things in SC2 since the WoL days.
Noooo Bunny what have you done?? That last game was so frustrating, Starbuck did almost the same thing every games, why didn't bunny adapt his builds ?

Lilbow? Snute?
What ? In what world ?
Snute is 28th and need 775 points to get to the level of Innovation (the 16th) who is still playing in both GSL and SSL. Lilbow is 26th and need 650 points to join Innovation.
There is absolutely no way they can qualify. There are players between their 26/28th place and the last qualifying spot.
I've been saying for a while that TL needs to recruit some new blood to their sc2 division. They have become pretty stale. Need new people to spkce up the team and motivate each other.
With that loss im quite sure Bunny will sadly not be at Blizzcon their is only 4 tournaments left of the year and from what it looks he will only be at 2 of them (asus and dh stockholm) unless he is given an invite to msi tournament which might be a little unlikely

Yesterday MlorD was a heavy favorite against an agressive Protoss and what did he do ? He played safe. Stayed at home waiting for the stalkers to come. I'm very surprised by Bunny's willingness to expand quickly and take that many risks when he's supposed to be the favorite.

Oh whatever, this is like the first bad result that Bunny's had in a long time. Team Liquid's been doing fine; people expect championships way too often.

Guess I should've expected the whole "No foreigner at Blizzcon" thing. I had hopes, but with Korea having both SSL and GSL over there it was going to be difficult from the start.

But looking at the upsets in challenger this year, i think its quite conclusive that Foreigners are just too inconsistent.

It takes away the possibility of blizzcon, which is the culmination of this year's sc2. So yeah, it's a year...
you're in a rough spot if you can't beat a tier 3 foreigner and want to play at Blizzcon

If making semi-finals in the previous season was that definitive, Bunny should had no problem with Starbuck in this series.
But looking at the upsets in challenger this year, i think its quite conclusive that Foreigners are just too inconsistent.
Having the top 1 of the previous not to play is... meh

Making semis keeps you in GSL and SSL. It's not a matter of consistency, you earned the right to avoid being cheesed out of the next season by performing well. If you are inconsistent you will fall out in the first round of Code S/SSL but you should be invited back imo

He was the only foreigner with a good shot at qualifying to Blizzcon.
Now there isn't one.
Lilbow? Snute?
Lilbow can get 24th just by winning his quali. Snute can repeat his miracle at IEM Shenzhen and kill Koreans to get to the top 16. Innovation can go fuck himself.

This was actually a make or break match for Bunny like it was for Stats earlier in the week there is only 4 tournaments left for wcs asus/iem gamescon/msi/dh stockholm
1. Asus: 300 points for winner players already determined. (Bunny here) 2. IEM gamecon 750 points for winner players already determined. (No Bunny) 3. MSI 750 points for winner qualifiers done only invites left 6 total. (No Bunny but could get invite) 4. DH Stockholm 750 points everyone will be there haha (Bunny will prob be here)

In the blizzcon after the next one we should have 8 invites for foreigners if the trend continues :D
there should be a foreigner-only Blizzcon qualifier at the event, the winner gets to have 16th slot and be cheesed out in 30min total by whoever is seed #1

Uh? Yeah I agree, Korea deserved to be richer and that's great. But the goal of Blizzard's policy for this year was clearly not to insta-get two or three foreigners at BlizzCon, else they would have done things differently.

I've always thought one bo5 to determine whether you get to compete in any fashion besides weekly tournaments in sc2 for the next 3 months is moronic, but in this case I'm only saying that this series was Bunny's only shot at making Blizzcon starting from this moment. Yes if he won the two previous wcs seasons he'd be in a better spot, i think we all see that's obvious.

Zerg all ins aren't mysterious like protoss all ins. Starbuck had very good timing and had the balls to believe in the roach. I'm just disappointed that a chance for a foreigner at blizzcon is pretty much gone now.

I get what you are saying, but in the end his seed for making semis was to pick his opponent as one of the first players (i think it works that way, right?) So i really cannot be sad about this, even if i think Bunny is a great player, a bo5 vs someone you can pick out of a lot of players should favor you greatly if you do it right. Apparently he didn't though

that's why I feel it's important that top performers are rewarded with seeds into the next season
Even if they are performing like how Bunny perform in that series?
Wow 4 games such sample size where's swag_bro to tell us how big a slump Bunny is in. You ever play ladder? Ever go on a 3+ game losing streak? because Bunny just went on 3 game losing streak only the games were streamed and at the end his blizzcon hopes were gone
I think that his mindset of playing in WCS Challenger is different from just random people on ladder. The analogy needs some work but your point is pretty fair: it's just 3 games.
Yeah you're right it's certainly not perfect. Bunny had time to prepare starts and didn't execute, but I do think you shouldn't draw too much from one series is all
Oh I absolutely agree. Except Polt. Never know what that guy's thinking. :/

If he doesn't feel confidant in a macro game, early pool is a way to play. Not sure if it'll work, mind you.

If the main event isn't divided by region NA and EU challenger should be combined imo. Top seeds from "NA" like JD and Polt have the freest of free wins (we are the land of the free after all)

He did, he held game 1 so that he never expected it coming game 2. I love Bly.
Being hard to predict by being easy to predict.
I remember playing a ladder game where I scouted the Dark Shrine on Bridgehead and had an obs at both entrances ready, sniped his 2 DT's... I thought I just beat my first diamond player (I was in silver), and then I lost to 10 DT's.

I think it also has to do with timing and easier scheduling. Like how Latin America used Copa America as their substitute for Challenger.

also with the fact that majority of North Americans wouldn't qualify if they were in the same pool EU was, same case for Latin America, China, Taiwan and SEA. Sad reality.

If you have a shitload of banes, its cost effective.
Also if they have a lot of mutas those banes aren't long for this world. So its a matter of whether you think you're going to get them to do better damage somewhere else or not. And most likely they won't
Challenger is definitely my favorite part of WCS. Single elim Bo5 is awesome to practice for and play and watch, especially when there's time for players to prepare specifically for the match (as opposed to playing a whole bracket in one weekend).
It's pretty weird how each WCS season is a combo of 4 different formats, but at least everyone has a part they can enjoy.

But it leaves no chance to the enemies of the ROACH
In the beginning, Elfi created the pylon and the gateway. Now the APM counter was declining and nearly empty, darkness was over most of the minimap, and his cat Pekka was hovering over the keyboard.
And Elfi said, "Let there be gas," and there was gas. Elfi saw that the gas was good, and sent three probes into each geyser to harvest it. Elfi called the first three probes "for core", and the other three probes "for stargate". And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the first minute.
And Elfi said, "Let there be a pylon between the structures to separate structure from structure." So Elfi made the pylon and separated his gateway from the core on the other side. And it was so. Elfi began his first zealot. And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the second minute.
And Elfi said, "Let the nexus in the main produce a mothership core, and let a mothership core appear." And it was so. Elfi rallied the mothership core to his ramp, and the new probes he put on minerals. And Elfi saw that it was good.
Then Elfi said, "Let the core research warp gate: gateways to eventually transform into warp gate and bear units with attacks, according to their various kinds." And it was so. The core researched warp gate, a second gateway went into construction to bear units with attacks according to their kinds. And Elfi saw that it was good. And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the third minute.
And Elfi said, "Let there be a stargate to make phoenixes and punish expansions, and let them serve as scouts to mark enemy buildings, units, and researches, and let them be units in the airspace of the map to defend the base." And it was so. Elfi made two phoenixes - the phoenix to show his chosen tech path to the enemy, and the oracle to die to enemy stalker pressure. He also made a hallucinated phoenix. Elfi set it in the base of the enemy next to his real phoenix to deliver more scouting information, and to confuse the enemy as to which phoenix was the real one. And Elfi saw that it was good. And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the fourth minute.
And Elfi said, "Let the phoenixes use all of their energy, and let them fly above the mineral lines across the base of the enemy." So Elfi hit the G key and clicked on things in the mineral line, according to their kinds, and lifted the stalker instead of the probe. And Elfi saw that it was good, since it gave his oracle free rein to shoot the probes. Elfi blessed them and said, "Vittu." And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the fifth minute.
And Elfi said, "Let my base produce units according to their kinds: the zealots, the stalkers that blink across the map, and the sentries, each according to their kind. And it was so. Elfi made the sentries according to their kinds, the zealots according to their kinds, and the stalkers that blink across the map according to their kind. And Elfi saw that it was good.
And Elfi said, "Let us expand while attacking, while making air units, so that I may simultaneously achieve everything and optimize the use of my eighty actions per minute on my zealots, and my sentries, and over all the stalkers that blink across the map."
So Elfi expanded to his natural in his main's image, in the image of his main he expanded there, nexus he created there.
Elfi blessed it and said to it, "Be fruitful and deliver probes, fill the mineral line and empty it. Remind me to take both assimilators to that I may hide probes from attacks in them. Allow me to build more zealots and sentries and stalkers that blink across the map.
Then Elfi said to Pekka, "I give you every expansion on the face of this whole map and every building powered by my Artosis pylon. They will be yours to control. And to all the units of the map and all the phoenixes in the sky and all the sentries that blink across the map, everything with the tag "elfi" on it, I send to the enemy base to attack." And it was so.
Elfi saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was the occasional e-click, and the occasional "not enough minerals", the sixth minute.
Thus the base and the buildings were completed in all their vast array.
By the seventh minute Elfi had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh minute he left to go take a dump and left Pekka in charge. Then Elfi blessed Pekka and made him holy, because he had just entrusted the winning of at least 100 WCS points to his cat.

But it leaves no chance to the enemies of the ROACH
I'm so sad for Bunny I guess no foreigner at Blizzcon this year again...

Nah he won't make the same mistakes against JD twice. And he'd beat Polt. Hydra is a tough beast however.

I dunno about that. I guess all those players will be in the ro8, I shall keep your predictions in mind until then ^^
Why does the terran revile Elfi? Why does he say to himself, "He won't see that I'm gone?" But you Elfi, see the tower is free; You consider your options and move to secure it. The terran stims back in your direction; You are the holder of all the terran hates.
This drop really troubled me, so I asked elfi about it. "Elfi, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd reveal the hidden mines. But I noticed that during the crucial point of the drops, there were no observers in the sky. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw no mines in your mineral line, It was then that I lifted them with my phoenixes."

How long, Elfi? Will you stay out of IEM forever? How long will you throw games to the likes of Dear? How long must I wrestle with the fact That Dear's 99% chance of winning the set might as well be 100%?
Look on me and answer, Elfi my God. Give light to the ladder, or I will browse Liquipedia in hopelessness, And the bracket will show one flag in every slot, The rest condemned to fall.
But I trust in your unending spree, My heart rejoices in seeing Pekka on stream. I will sing Elfi's praise, For he is my foreign hope.

Elfi is King forever and ever; The nations will be led by his hand. You, Elfi, hear the desire of Protoss players; You encourage them, you listen to their cry, Defending the economic and aggressive openings, Defending the cheese and safe oepnings, So that mere zerg and terran Will never again strike terror.

It looked like he was playing on auto-pilot. But it's useless to speculate on how he should have reacted, as he most likely knows by himself which mistakes he has made. Hopefully, he won't make them again. Maybe he was thinking something along the lines of "I'm better than Starbuck, I can hold his aggression even if I play greedily." Mabye he just had an off-day.
oops, looks like Bunny's briefly contentious crown is firmly back in Lilbow's hands... though Snute is looking up again, will be interesting to see how they both do in premier
Snute and TLO > Bunny. Just because you get lucky and make some semifinals in a tournament that lacks Koreans twice doesn't mean you are the best in your team.
Naniwa got ro8 TWICE in a row in GSL and people still think Stephano is a better player. God double standards and bias is real.

I'm still blown away by Happy - Bly. I take it that those aren't exclusively offline games, yes? Also the Bunny - Snute is HARDLY useful, since they played a Bo69.

all 126 maps between Happy and Bly took place in online tournaments. They've never met offline interestingly. As for Bunny vs Snute, it still only accounted for max 35 wins, so Bunny still had 27 other wins outside the bo69 which is a decent number

I believe Happy does as well, but Bly's in all those Smilecups that Goodgame.ru organizes since they're both close friends with a lot of the organizers, so maybe that's why those numbers are so high.

Yep, it's also why I'm surprised the Nerchio-Bly score is so uneven. I was actually watching a VOD of the time they did a 2v2 bracket in the Smilecup with Nerchio and Bly against two other Zergs (I think it was Dimaga and Slivko), and Nerch and Bly were in perfect synergy with each other, as if they knew ahead of time what the other player was going to do. I guess that's just a one-way relationship then.

Imo, it wasn`t merely Bunny being unable to adapt, but rather his play seemed suprisingly off yesterday. To give an example, he dealt very badly with runbies or lost his banshees due to a lack of awareness. I guess everyone has those off days.
the people salty about bunny do realize that if koreans at blizzcon found out he was bad against cheese they would just cheese him 1000x better than a foreigner can, right?
like holy shit this diamond ladder mentality of "aggressive wins aren't real" really bleeds into how people view pro play?
