bomber and mma have a realistic shot. drg might surprise considering it's a ZvZ. don't see myungsik getting past maru but who knows what miracles might happen. i really hope it gets to an ace or sbenu somehow steals it. start style sbenu!

Rogue vs DRG could go either way I feel. MyuNgSiK has been solid recently, but I don't see him beating Maru, unless he pulls out special tactics. MMA could beat Cure. Bomber should get demolished by sOs, statistically. But it's Bomber. He "can" potentially beat anyone. If it goes to ace, Maru should crush anyone Sbenu sends, sadly

Maru didn't win because of his great play, Maru won because Myungsik refused to attack. As much as Maru's an incredible player, he really doesn't deserve that much credit for this game.

It would have been SO beautiful if Myungsik turned the game around and won. Maru would probably just silently emigrate to North Korea and never be seen again...
Anyway, Myungsik just lost the game by not being careful enough in army movements, you can't just let one full base worth of units die to two mines.

Myungsik played really well and just crushed everything Maru did for such a long time. The problem was that Maru was able to take more expansions and terran on 4 bases can produce ridiculous amounts of bio-mine.

pretty much. maru was just throwing away medivacs of units while macroing up at home. i wonder if myungsik actually had windows for counter/harass with that composition.

Maru played sloppy this game, but he is so skilled it didnt matter. He is expert at sniping colossy with marauders and with phoenixes there is less ground units to protect the colossy its really tricky when you run out of energy. Myungsik could not go to the other side of the maps, if he did he would still have lost.

Some people apparently fail to realize that players do not have the production bar and the supply counts to decide whether it's time or not for manner stuff
You people need to remember that Maru was at 8 rax, later 10 rax, before Myungsik had the army and defenses to even consider counter attacking. Maru would be up 30-40 supply if Myungsik attacked. Some SCV pulls and that game is OVER.

Terran drops are difficult cause you mis one and you lose a base. I guess DT´s would have been nice but it comes back to the fact that terran drops kill shit so freaking fast.
I think maru was insisting on the mine drops even though he was making little to no damage to keep the phoenixes in the protoss base instead of having the phoenixes picking up your bio, workers , etc .Even though he was doing inefficient trades every time his economy and bio army was untouched enabling him to muster up a sick army at the end against a protoss who heavily invested in phoenix.

He had 5bases vs 3 at that point, 3-3 against like +2attack and just killed most Colossi. He had a pretty substantial lead.
wasn't it 2 bases? he had just sniped the natural. myungsik's main was also nearly mined out and he had reset the colossus count and had pretty much all the phoenix in the red.

Never seen Maru being bm like this, its probably a personal thing between him and Myungsik or maybe he was just pissed at himself for almost throwing it earlier.
Maru is a really impressive player. He recognizes his own skill and doesn't build vikings OR thors at all because he knows that he can throw units all over his opponents, use the pressure to expand a lot behind it, and beat them to death with it.

I suppose. I really like Maru, but let's be honest, Myungsik threw this game to the wind.
There was never a time when Maru wasn't posturing on the map with one army and threatening a drop with another. You can't blame Myungsik for not attacking when Maru's base trade potential was so strong. Phoenix/Colossi is a strong but fragile army, ff Myungsik did actually attack, he may have lost the base trade or been outmanoeuvred. Then we'd be saying he threw the game by attacking when he should've just sat back and defended against Maru's hyper-aggression.
I don't mind how Myungsik played that game, he just needed to do it better. Which is saying a lot cos he didn't play bad at all. That's just how good Maru is.
You guys, we can't let Maru actually be a person. He's only allowed to have two character traits: Young and talented. No room for a personality, that's why he never gets to have one in interviews.

No such thing as too much BM ingame. You can dance your units at the start of the game if you want. Its great to see and him doing it so early made it feel like the game had so much more on the line. It was a pleasure to watch

So sad today, Maru's match felt really disappointing to me... The Toss played amazingly well and a few mineshots completely ruined him.. and then the Parade came. MULES are crazy good.

TvT is like his best matchup, though his TvP is looking pretty unfair too. You send a Zerg against Maru. It's been his worst matchup for years now.

his TvT is very stylish: he opens a lot with 13 gas into some form of pressure and plays low eco/low upgrade marine tank. Usually 50ish scvs (with a 3rd) and only one ebay, sometimes even no 2/2 (the finale vs Cure). He doesn't depend much on his build, he just outplays almost everyone with more marine/tanks in a 5min window before his opponent eco/upgrades really kick off.
Does anyone remember that time at IEM when mOOnGLaDe 2-0ed Dream and beat Grubby. At the end he had an equal map score to Grubby (both had +1 point difference) and Grubby still advanced for absolutely no reason?

He doesn't depend much on his build, he just outplays almost everyone with more marine/tanks in a 5min window before his opponent eco/upgrades really kick off.

he was definitely in a commanding situation but honestly i don't see how he could have walked across the map with that composition while maru was pressuring nonstop. 4 base terran vs what eventually became a 2 base protoss. that engagement where he lost his colossus and took 2 mine hits to 17 phoenix really shifted the game. maybe if he had a pylon or warp prism on the other side of the map.

Your answer gives no explanation about why you don't agree with him though. I totally agree with lamehater. Maru kept donating units the whole game and gets away with that because Myunsik didn't counter attack.
And why did he not counter attack ? Because as a protoss against an over aggressive terran you have to split your army to defend and counter attack and the protoss army isn't at its best when splitted. This makes players like Myungsik hesitate when it comes to counter attack a terran of this caliber.Either you overcommit to defend somewhere and you get rekt somewhere else, or you undercommit to this defense and you basically donate units and lose your eco.
Now about hating Maru, afaic it's hard to like him BMing like this after playing a very stubborn and over aggressive "drop -> donate -> drop -> donate" strategy, which didn't look super solid/pretty to say the least. Very disappointing and frustrating game to watch.
Now I do hope the Prime coach will cheer Myungsik up because he did awesome and was close to winning. He did have a few windows where he could have counter attacked and won. He let Maru engage him instead of engaging on his own terms, which give Maru the opportunity to take a few collosi with stim/mediboost/marauders. Maru's army with no vikings had 0 way to compete with Myungsik's army in a straight up engagement. But we all know how terrans will look for the base trade in this kind of situations and that can explain the hesitation.

yeah now protosses just have to figure when they can actually cross the map to go counter. mYungsik never found that window cause of constant drops, I think a forward pylon or a warp prism could have come in handy....

I've been watching the Korean vods with no audio and music cause I can't bear it, went to watch the end of MaruVSMyungsik again and pulled up the English version... Jesus Christ. Those dudes don't even know how to play by play, let alone analyze a god damn thing.

I actually love the English Proleague Casters. I think they analyze things pretty well and like Artosis/Tasteless, they have fun while casting which is always entertaining. If I had to listen to "Flash and Cure are BOTH at 13 SCV's at this stage but Cure scouted earlier so it looks like Flash is in a slight economic lead at this time. We'll see how far ahead this'll take him" I probably wouldn't watch SC2. I don't get the english caster hate either. These days the english casters in korea are superb. Moonglade is an extremely good analyst as well. He's a GM in korea (or was), and it shows.

And this is actually what other english casters outside of Korea almost always do, apollo being the exception.
Those were the best manner mules I've seen. Maru gets a slight advantage after all of his attacks and harass were foiled for the whole game and then calls down a continuous rain of mules even though victory was not 100% and then he just kept calling them down. That's style.
If myungsik got charge after he stabilized with third he just wins. You can't even snipe colossus, not even if you're maru once charge is out. Not sure if he forgot it or what. With that big of an advantage after early game he could just go double forge as well..... wtf man...

I think Myungsik wasn't expecting that strategy to actually work so well. It seemed like he wasn't sure what to do after it was rolling over Maru for the first 20 minutes. His tech was just so late, so he couldn't press his advantage. Still, was a good comeback by Maru. He took the space he was given and won with it.
The day actually paid off the Hype pretty well. Our 2011 GSTL All-Stars lived up to the billing, which was fun to see.

The thing the bothers me immensely is these guys are payed to speak, and all three are pretty poor at it, particularly Brendan.

Maru vs Myungsik was too good. Ultimate BM. Ultimate skill. Myungsik could have killed Maru so many times but decided to sit back and do nothing but defend. Having too many Phoenixes and no Chargelots cost him the game for sure.

The weird thing is that Maru rarerly bms, at least I havent ever seen him throwing offensive mules/CCs except from this time. There might be some spicy history between those two

Maru scared him. He clearly was prone to dropping and Myungsik knew if he moved out their was a good chance he'd get doom dropped and lose the base trade. Maru got in his head, and it was beautiful

If anything got in anyone's head, it was Maru who was tilted and had to lose his cool by BM'ing multiple times. I really hope someone smart and strict train DRG. He's still got his mechanics and won against Rogue, but there are several holes in his play. There is no reason why DRG shouldn't be on top as long as he's motivated and well trained.

Other Protosses have done the same. E.g. CJ herO is well versed in defending all of Maru's aggressions. But never, not once, has Maru BM'd herO in one such game that he still ended up winning. The logical conclusion is that Maru respects herO too much to do such a thing, and that he doesn't respect Myungsik at all.
And from what I heard, Myungsik is BM on the Korean ladder so quite a few people don't really like him.
Oh and one last thing, Myungsik's facial expressions did show he was extremely annoyed by Maru's BM during the game, but he generally cries every time he loses in Proleague.

And from what I heard, Myungsik is BM on the Korean ladder so quite a few people don't really like him.
I think Maru took revenge for Rogue, since Myungsik BMed him/looked down on him during an interview. So that's why Maru destroyed Myungsik like that and embarassed him, not for himself, but for his teammate Rogue.
What we learned is, don't bully Maru's friends, he will break you!
