Would have given Serral a chance against MMA, as Serral has been doing well against Korean terrans, but as he is against Rain first, I feel his chances are greatly reduced.

In any case MMA probably wins over PtitDrogo and Rain probably knows Serral well enough to not let him surprise. So unless Rain goes first, I doubt Serral goes through this

So MMA + Rain is my prediction, but wishing Serral can beat Rain, oh wouldn't that be something :D

Heart: Serral + MMA, but it's quite unlikely with this play order.

Looks like MMA has dropped out and been replaced by MarineLord.

That.. that kind of bites, to be honest. I really like MMA, and he was a big draw for me to watch this. =/

Edit: Whoops, forgot the article.

Well I guess preparing for GSL is more important than playing in this. On the positive side of things it means that PtitDrogo has more chances to make it out.

The Baguette is too strong, all resistance is futile.

Sad not to see MMA, but I can understand he needs to prepare for his match against PartinG, who I hope he'll be able to smash to pieces.

Hope Rain showcases some great games. Every player besides Rain has a shot, they're all pretty good. Should be some nice SC2.

see the problem with doing a 2-base all-in on Expedition Lost is that everybody expects it

especially if they have an overlord over all of your gateways

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with it though, up to the players if they want to play.

However it might cause for some bad offline finals, since suddenly the handicap is gone and the koreans will be even better.

I assume the tournament wants the game to be played on EU. Easier for EU players to get in.

Impressive play by Serral. I'm looking for WCS to see how he'll perform.

Did someone notice flaws in Rain's play caused by KR->EU lag ? I didn't.

Didn't watch to closely game 2, but early-midgame game 1 there were some micro issues imo. Those lings killing of the stalker in the wall-in for example.

It's against the law for a russian to exist. I am serious, if you dig deep enough, any russian violates a law, including the russian who wrote the law and the russian who approved it.

I would not be surprised if Rain does not advance, Marinelord is just as good as Serral and Ptitdrogo is also one of the best EU Protoss, it will ba hard to beat them on the EU server from Korea.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Mass tempest proves to be useless, again.

Anyone recall, on top of their heads, a game won with mass tempest against SH+corruptor+vipter+mass static defense?

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with it though, up to the players if they want to play.

However it might cause for some bad offline finals, since suddenly the handicap is gone and the koreans will be even better.

Oh come on, some people should stop being so sensitive about lag. Was there any noticeable one? I don't think so.

They also can have the balls to play on NA to even things up. During qualifiers this week, both MLord and ForGG offered their opponents to play on NA when they were Koreans for instance.

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with it though, up to the players if they want to play.

However it might cause for some bad offline finals, since suddenly the handicap is gone and the koreans will be even better.

So Europeans should just autolose when they meet Koreans on EU server or what?
what a stupid tweet...

Or play the matches on the US server to make it fair?

This is the tournaments choice. If they are one tournament located in one region, it is perfectly fine to have the games in one server. AFAIK OlimoLeague doesn't switch to NA either, when Euros are participating.

No, sure, noone is is doubting, that koreans are better than Euros. But this is just an example of regionally based tournaments. Noone would ever suggest, that OlimoLeague is switching to NA, so why would people suggest to have Fragbite do the same?

I think Fragbite tournaments have a really great production value. I love the layout. Only thing I dislike is the standard electro music.

I have watched some ptitdrogo pvz and I wasn't particularly impressed, I don't think he stands a chance versus serral

He beat only Zergs when he qualified for WCS, including Nerchio, Serral and Snute.

But Nerchio lost to 2015 Naniwa so he's a bad player

i'll grudgematch you if you say that again

You have to play on eu though or it'll get dodged

don't worry I'm not TelecoM

Tomorrow, 6.30pm CET?

ok, I'll do my best to be there.

Not sure where you're going with that. I don't think there was anything wrong with his composition. It works fine against colo / gateway units.

Serral needed to defend better though.

Why do you always have to be like this? :/

That was a joke, we all (?) know that Stephano likes to party and do weird/creepy/funny things when he's drunk.

I thought players were paid 160$ for this tournament.

I mean someone pretty much always does especially if the player who gets eliminated with a 3-2 h2h map score like will happen if serral loses 1-2

This group format sucks for the players, round robin pls.

I remember that players seemed to prefer this format compared to round robin though.

I'm teasing. Anyway, one of my teammates played a Stephano account on ladder (which seemed to be him) and he immediately left the game after saying something like "No ZvZ, practicing." So what's he praccing for?! Dun dun

Heyheyhey, the Great RR Prophet has agreed that discussions about RR vs GSL are restricted to after the games are played out.

I don't like the format either, but the "3-2 loss" argument is retarded. They didn't play a bo5, they played a bo3 twice. That's quite a huge fucking difference.

Guys arguing about GSL format, if you're bitter because of Serral loss, remember that with the loser bracket, he is not out yet.

I think it's just the fastest/most efficient. Other variants take too long. That's the only reason we stick with it. Time.

I think a Champions League style group would be more fair.

Ok...

Id argue that given a chance Serral would beat ptitdrogo and rain wouldve prolly lost to marinelord tonight.

I can't believe I am going to argue against this logic...That's like saying if TaeJa wins IEM the whole finals was unfair because he came from the weak side of the bracket. He's still the one with money in the bank.

Yea thats exactly why i think round robin is a better format, as all the players actually face eachother. Its a more balanced group stage format.

I would love for IEM to last over two months, but it's just not realistic to get all the players to play each other. That's an absurd amount of matches.

But you can't be sure about that, and even then it would be 2-2 versus 2-2 bo3 score between Rain and Serral, so it still wouldn't be a situation where the player with the worse performance advanced.

That is true, but why should there be groups in the first place? Some groups will always be weaker than others, so it's still 'unfair'.

It's an open secret that Round Robin is the only fair system.
The question is rather, how much more time consuming is it and how unfair is it if your last match is against a player that is already sure to go out and who might not give a fuck about the game. Or if he is a whiney bitch that cannot deal with losing acts like a little baby and throws in the most obvious way.

On a different note, how did Serral win the first set against Rain?

No it isn't, lol.

It's true that the reason it is used less is because it's much easier to schedule a double elimination group, as you know all matches are relevant and you know how many of them there will be with a certainty.

But it doesn't follow that we lose a whole ton when it comes to fairness. The notion that what happened in this group was unfair is pretty much arbitrary.

I only caught the end of the first map which was a Swarm Host vs Tempest basetrade which was a pretty easy win for Serral. The second game was on Expedition Lost and Serral took the gold as his 2nd base and his forward base as his 3rd (so his backdoor base wasn't taken yet) and Rain tried to kill his gold with a 2 base Gateway push which was held pretty easily with Roaches.

Round Robin is a terrible format and clearly not the fairest just imagine following scenario which isn't uncommon:

Player A 2-0
Player B 1-1
Player C 1-1
Player D 0-2

The last games are Player A vs Player B and Player C vs Player D. How is that fair at all? Player D might be the weakest Player of the group but you can bet that he tried his best in the first two games while now he is already eliminated for sure and probably a walk over for Player C because the game has no meaning whatsoever for him.

Also Round Robin makes it a lot easier for match fixing to happen.

It's easily mathematically proveable that - assuming everyone plays his heart out - the outcome of a double elimination group is largely dependend on who you go up against first. It is therefore wrong to say that everyone in such a "group" has an equal chance of advancing.
Hell, how often have we read "I hope X makes it through but having to play against Y first is going to be tough". Exactly. Playing against certain people first is a disadvantage given that player's skills and forms differ.

In no way am I interested in a discussion about this group though, since I didn't even see it. My only point was that Round Robin is obviously fairer if we could ensure sportsmanship and didn't have to worry about game lengths. Which we can't and have to and the used bracket gives us just that for the price of being a little bit unfair.

[pathetic attempt at quoting]

It comes down to the traditional conflict between something slightly unfair that happens a lot and something much more unfair that happens less often.

If player A wins player b, and player D wins player C theres still a chance for D to go through lol. Your scenario fails.

Thanks for the example! Best example why Round Robin is fair since all four players still have a chance to advance
