he delayed the gases though to get 3 base quickly. He barely had two base saturation so it's not like it really matters, especially when you make a lot of lings and then roaches under so much pressure.

I think XiGua didn't need to have three bases so quickly, and could have mined gas before he took his third to account for Astrea's delayed expand. In the end he lacked tech to deal with the push. Even the first gateway attack wasn't cleaned this convincingly because of the late-ish roaches.
