Nice group, I'd give an edge to herO and Taeja tho. Whoever wins their game comes out 1st, the other one battle through Curious and Terminator to take second.
Im all for GOM trying to get more money but to block out medium seems a bit silly. Blocking out high and Source (720p+) is ok, but to make us watch in like 240p is worst than back in WOL days xD
Oh yeah low quality D: nah not gonna watch not invested enough in this group. I am srsly considering subscribing so I can watch my players and actually see them -.-
I subscribed without second thought, I love GSL It's so much entertainment for just a couple of bucks. What do I enjoy more, a night out, 2 trips to the cinema or 3 months of GSL?
I can also see how they'd want to make some money. WHilst 14 might be a bit steep, most people just watch the free stream with addblock on and call it a day.

Tasteless described Terminator as a redshirt (without remembering the term), and in 20 seconds, we learned that 100% of the Archon's Star Trek knowledge belongs to the Tosis.

Game one opened macro style, Taeja had 3 base and herO 3 base, then Taeja decided to push with SCV pull on 3 base to try and hit a timing he must of planned. herO scouted it coming with blink stalkers and got into a great position with 2-2 colli/blink/immortal/chargelot army to eat through Taeja scv pull army of MMM + vikings. Was very good positioning imo.
Game two was 2 base all in colli build from herO. Taeja had 2 medivac worth of units in natural of herO when herO was at his natural so definitely had no chance to defend it and gg 2-0

I mean he shouldn't have sent those units away in the first place
i seem to recall a brief period when sending out two medivacs was the proper response to two base colo pushes... in any case, do you think having that amount of units out made the game irrecoverably lost? what, if i may court facetiousness, would have been his best reaction from the position he was in? ty in advance.
Loving terminator's play... wanted curious to come out but i want to see some close games between Term and Taeja... with taej edging it out ofc
damn... Terminator with that crushing engage, Curious was just watching his shit evaporate; people use that word a lot, but that was actually a real example.

On KSS, game one, herO got Blink and then held Taeja back. Then he got a macro lead and Taeja pulled the boys but died in an awful engagement. On game two herO did a Colossus all-in and Taeja had two full medivacs across the field and tried to base race but lost both fights, gg. Seemed simple enough for herO.

Countering with a dual drop is tricky with the MSC. If you get "lucky" and you hit when the colo is in production/when he just warped in front of your natural, you can kick his Nexus or unpower his production, which makes you win if you defend at home; but if that's not the case, your dual drop may be repelled without troubles by PO + one Colo (and possibly a few units) while you lose at home because you're lacking 20 supply there. The best reaction is probably to evacuate to the high ground in this semi-basetrade situation

Don't get wtf protoss are doing. He stuttered curious opening so much, curious VERY smart to go ling hydra so quickly noticing the stalker play. But to not take a 3rd and try and get a Colli or 3 was baffling for me. Don't even think he had good upgrades. Oh well. Game 3!

He had no tech, getting Collosi from Cybercore takes 3/4 minutes of no initiative. Having enough to face Hydraling takes you 6 minutes.

He had just decided to go blink all in, he had only three gases. But I agree, after his Stalkers and zealots killed 12 Drones he could have tried to macro out. He still had a big Stalker ball and could probably have defended until he transitioned
I think that vs zerg expanding that late*(after 10:30min) while the zerg is droning hardchore, even tho he lost 11 drones, gives away too much of the game momentum.

I wish players that actually understand their races' styles in those situations had played that instead of Terminator vs Curious. Not a lot to take from this.
As if Broodlords weren't enough of an indicator of how stupid free units were, that game and pretty much all of HotS have perfectly demonstrated it. Get rid of swarm hosts in LotV please, Blizz.

Hit a nice timing from Taeja. 2 base push out with MMM and hellbat. Then took a 3rd CC and added some mines eventually. Just poked around the map getting good engagements and steam rolled through from there.
This is an interesting style, they never had their whole armies clash, but Curious made sure he never had to. I guess this only works on maps with many avenues, but definitely something I'd love to try out.

Once again, when he plays in the hardest tournament in the world instead of some foreigner tournament, he fails to live up to the hype. Not very surprising.
Hopefully people will now finally stop putting Taeja on the same level as MVP.

Once again? Taeja was one of the very best last time he was in GSL, iirc 2 semifinals and 2 quarterfinals in the span of 5 seasons. And this was during BL-infestor era.
edit: or once again like in SSL and then now? Anyway I don't think it matters, Taeja is still one of the best we had last year, GSL or not.

Well, i think if youre really BM and you show no respect to anyone, imo its atleast acceptable to hate on those people. But when people send those messages to people, who really dont deserve it, its imo just hateful.

Yeah broodlord infestor last for like 100 code S season and over 15 years .....

I never said he was bad. Definitely top 10 of all time. I simply said he never lived up to the hype when playing the hardest tournaments. He performed terribly in WCS last year and TL still voted him player of the year. People constantly compare him to Mvp despite Mvp being undeniably better during his reign. He is an amazing player, but he gets way more praise than he deserves.

And why is this hardest tournament in the world? Who decides that? You? Blizzcon was the hardest and he smashed both soO and innovation, and kespa got wrecked there... 1 in top 4, 0 in finals
He just doesnt like this type of tournament, not because its "hard" but because he trains by playing ladder and opponents prepare for him! But in the end, its not same Taeja anymore, when he is in form, he wouldnt lose to this kind of play
Pure skill, Taeja is the best player there is... he just doesnt do any preparation for opponents and tries to play standard all the time, and people use it against him if they have time to prepare for him... i mean, soO, zest, solar, innovation, rain... all kind of people he beats and they all consider him great, one of the best... yet here he is bad because he cant win GSL... but its fine that kespa guys cant win any big tournament outside... those he won bunch... yet then its always some jetlag or tired excuse!

yeah, unexpected that herO didn't go through first. but taeja going out first isn't really a surprise to me. it just doesn't seem like he's playing sc2 at all. not playing in PL and just whining about retirements is all I've seen recently.

its not "pure skill" if people wreck you when you play, skill = winning, if you cant win then you dont have skill at the game
skill at macro mechanics maybe but this isnt macro mechanicraft its starcraft

Though he never won a big tourney, like Blizzcon, GSL, WCS or something, right? So he's pretty good at the 10 000 $ tourneys, but once it goes super serial he gets 3rd or 4th place at best

I still feel Taeja is at the level of Mvp. For the last ~3 years, there's not much time where he hasn't been considered one of the top players in the world. He's very consistent, and imo he has the results to back it up.
I see what you're saying though. A GSL win would put him at Mvp level for sure, if not above.

BY FAR the best player by pure skill! And no, skill =/= skill... whoever thinks that is not a very smart person, cause if that was the case, Taeja would have won every game he ever played, then herO, zest, flash, life would also almost never lose! If some noob prepares build just for 1 map and just against 1 opponent and wins with it, he is not skilled, he is prepared... and if he faces someone else, he gets wrecked! That cant be skill
Throw all the best players in some tournament where you play against everyone Bo3, every day like 5-6 matches, each match win 3 points and i would bet that Taeja would be among the top, if not top... and half of those that do well in one GSL would be bottom, only the really skilled ones would be up, like zest, inno, life etc... because they wouldnt be able to prepare for every match and would maybe win 1st every day and then be bad in rest

That post was pure bait, implying he achieved nothing impressive unless he gets easy opponents. Seriously, most of the bullshit people spew here just give me a headache. You don't like a player, that's your right. But at least inform yourself on what he achieved before claiming things that are obviously not true.

Pure skill? TaeJa is a gooddamn noob, end of story..
Remind me to at least give you a warning when I get home
Hi Olli :D
Heyhey, any good games so far?
Terminator played well and herO against Curious was fine as well.

Yes, Oracle does "magic" damage so it ignores the armor of larvae. It is pretty sick when larvae is on the side away from spore. It pisses of many zergs on ladder and it is easier to kill than droens, they cannot run, mwahahahahahahaha!

That post was pure bait, implying he achieved nothing impressive unless he gets easy opponents. Seriously, most of the bullshit people spew here just give me a headache. You don't like a player, that's your right. But at least inform yourself on what he achieved before claiming things that are obviously not true.
Before you make yourself look like even more of a fool: reread my post. I never said anything about Teaja being bad, Literally the only quantifiable statement I made is that he is not as great as Mvp, i.e. not the best ever. I didn't imply anything, that's a straw man. Read the article, you can learn from it. Your post is really unintelligent, especially accusing me of shit-posting. I'm going back to lurking like I did the first few years in this site. neat trick ^^ I will start doing it
It's stronger the more lower league you play since zerg is more missing his injects
Also, classic herO with multiple "drops" at the time against SH! Neat!

Is that possible?
Yes. Against Terminator he had ~25. Had he had ~15, he could have had like 15more hydras to defend against the zealot warpins and stalkers and killed the topleft base which his corruptors scouted, but he had no units or free supply to dedicate to killing it.
I don't understand when players feel like they have to explain themselves to fans. Seems like they put added pressure on themselves. True fans will support you either way.
Wow Terminator came first out of that group? Thats pretty impressive. How did he play? Throwing cheeses arround or just all arround good play? And well wouldnt be a real GSL if Taeja didnt drop out early and in disappointing fashion :p

Nope, TaeJa has dropped out of the GSL in the RO32 3 previous times: GSL Oct 2011 GSL Nov 2011 GSL Season 5 2012

Upsets everywhere. Terminator beating not only one but two top players? What? Curious somehow managing to beat the host Terran ever? What? I'm pretty sure the only reason taeja lost is because of his wrist. If his wrists was in good form, he would not have been upset by hero and curious.

Yeah dunno how this legend about Taeja being bad in code S came from, it's not like he's the only good palyer to never have won it... and has 2 top 4 finishes afaik which is not so bad.

terminator had already beaten Teaja in the NSSL (or whatever you call it) qualifiers.
Against Curious he decided to go for 3 baes heavy agression, maybe being a bit more patient and try and play on 4 base would have worked better?
But Curious played well with deadly runbyes that reminded everybody that he's Life's team mate.

Taeja will never, ever win a GSL (especially nowadays due KESPA players). That's not even hard to understanding...just look at the history...has he ever won a GSL? nope...LOL. And back then there were far easier korean players to compete against.
Here are two simple reasons blind fans think he is the best player (haha, that is funny): 1) He goes to and wins so many international tournaments (whoopie doo, barely any pro koreans there) 2) He does well in random games and non-preparation matches (he gets wrecked in preparation matches...SSL & GSLs)
I'm definitely not surprised he is the loser in this group. No hate on Taeja here but his blinded fans sure fell for the TeamLiquid Hype. I wouldn't be surprised if TeamLiquid will write an article to come up with excuses for Taeja's loss.
GSL is for the big boys...today Taeja proved he doesn't belong in Code S. I'd say he is Code A level but he will also need to prove he belongs there (just like any other korean pros). No hate on Taeja here...just giving a big wake up slap to his blinded fans for falling for the TeamLiquid hype.

Oh please. Two of the best Kespa Players from last year did not even make it to Code S or to challenger in SSL. Everyone knows Taeja is not good when it comes to preparation matches. Skillwise he is one of THE best. Kespa Koreans tried playing weekend tournaments and most of them failed. Sure they do not play many, but when they do they are not really great.
Sure Taeja sometimes is overhyped but his doubters downplay his talent way too much too. If it would have been that easy for Kespa Koreans why didn´t Innovation win every weekend tournament he attended even though he was doing very well in Korea. Hell at the Dreamhack Finals in Bucharest he got beaten by Taeja. soO lost to Taeja. Fucking Zest lost to Taeja. He won vs sOs and beat Life many times. When it comes to Skill Taeja BELONGS into Code S. Him losing today does not really say too much because like I said two of the biggest names one of them actually winning Code S season 1 last year and the other being in 4 GSL finals in a row didnt even make the qualifers
Taeja on form can beat anyone. Is he the best sc2 player ever? No. Maybe we could start arguing about who is the best Sc2 Player when SC3 comes out.
The Taeja hate is unfounded -- he's proven before he can go the distance and GSL and has made semi-finals before. I think the biggest issue with Taeja is just discipline. He often seems like he can get wrapped up in his own talent at the game so he goes into matches thinking he doesn't need extra practice or preparation which leads to his dismantling. If Taeja was back on a team with a full-time coach and training regimen, I wonder how he would fare.

Taeja is one of THE consistent players in Sc2 winning Tournaments and beating Koreans Koreigners and Foreigners.
I never said Taeja had a bad day, but I have seen him play better. And YES soO and Zest may have had bad days in the qualifiers but I used them as an example for the Taeja lost in Round of 32 so he does not belong in Code S. If we look at it from your perspective both do not belong there too if they do not even make the qualifiers. They could be also just bad at playing against random people without preparation.
I never made excuses for Taeja or said he is the best player. Just that he is one of the best. I said he played bad. What I said is just by looking at his skill he DOES belong into Code S. His weakness not preparing well for Opponents is not something that cannot be corrected

Flash was a God in Brood War (since he doesn't play it anymore!). But because SC2 is a completely different game and based on Flash most recent results..I don't considered him consistent. He is around average I think. Jaedong was also a god in Brood War..in SC2 he is ehh..mediocore.

:D arguing on the internet - you learned your lesson.
However, results like this, proved that the whole whining about terrans being imba right now is wrong (not saying anything is imba right now, just also not terran)

Ya, you learn one or two things when you are using internet for 8+ years I dont think Flashs results proove anything though, he hasnt been a world class terran for quite some time and failed 2 raxes/30 minutes of camping arent exactly the standard TvZ games
Edit: not saying T is OP or anything, i just dont think Flashs games proove anything

If you don't do well in preparation matches and especially GSL in SC2...forget it. You ain't consistent.
I fail to see how preparation like strategies to counter player X, special cheeses or map abusing technics make xou more "consistent" than having superior mechanics, better understanding of the game and on-the-fly decision making ( this is what should prevail in weekend tournaments). Now i am not saying preparation matches dont need all of this, but still... why does it make you more consistant if you can plan for your opponent? Consitency is being able to play at top level no matter what.

That's not really the point. I'd agree that most of the players listed in the post are quite good in preparation matches AND weekend tournaments. Not too sure about soO, but whatever.

There is no best player in SC2 since the game itself is..lets say nothing compared to Brood War. To be considered the best overall in SC2 you must be a Consistent player...so far...Taeja proved he is not consistent.
Even Flash got knocked out early in OSLs and MSLs in BW. Does that mean he isn't consistent?
Flash was a God in Brood War (since he doesn't play it anymore!). But because SC2 is a completely different game and based on Flash most recent results..I don't considered him consistent. He is around average I think. Jaedong was also a god in Brood War..in SC2 he is ehh..mediocore.

soO Zest sOs
all failed to make it to GSL, why are we putting Taeja up to a higher standard than them?
Hell Taeja has been way more consistent than sOs in terms of international tournaments, even if we just shorten the time period to when they were both playing at the same time.
Some are calling soo out based on him not making nssl and gsl. But that's the thing, the qualifiers for both is a marathon of matches against different player. It's like a weekend tournament.
In fact, I think soo is the polar opposite of Taeja. He excels at long best of formats when he has time to prepare for his opponents (except when it's the finals). Whereas Taeja comes up short when opponent had time to prepare against him. Remember pigbaby? If terminator and pigbaby were to meet Taeja in group stage of DH. The game will not be even close. Taeja will rolfstomp over them on his way to another 10k cheque. But when opponents had time to dissect his play, and dictate the series, they can get an upset win fairly easily.

remember when some taeja fanboys were saying he would rek starleague and code S because he had beaten some kespa players in weekend LANs? We all know traditionally taeja is not that great at long-time prep tournies and today just shows it once again, coupled with his early exit in starleague

Starleague was a little weird though. It felt like TaeJa pretty much defeated himself there. Here, I didn't see the games so I don't really know, but apparently TaeJa played unusually badly?

His series against SoO and Innovation were preparation matches.
To truly be considered consistent...the primary goal is to do well in Major (I said major) tournaments, especially the GSLs and other Korean tournaments where you compete against the best Korean players in preparation matches.
If you say consistent is only about winning...then all one has to do is compete in numerous small international tournament (e.g. TeamLiquid fanboy Taeeejaaa) with little to no top notch Korean players...win those...enter more...win those...then yea...you have the most winnings (LOL)...vs someone like soO who freaken does monsterously good vs Top Notch Korean Players and entered 4 CONSECUTIVE GSL finals vs top notch Koreans (no foreigners whatsoever). No one has accomplished what soO has in SC2, period. Has Taeja ever made a GSL final? (NOPE even back then when the Korean scene was far less competitive) If I win 30 LAN tournaments in 3 months, am I the most consistent player on Earth? (it's not a trick question)
If you cried so much last night cuz Taeja was the loser of the group...then yea go ahead and say he won so so so many international tournaments vs foreigners, whatever makes you sleep at night. Trust me,we don't bash Taeja...but to say he is the best Terran or best player just because he won international tournaments, whereas the best KESPA players only play against the best, is very, very Laughable (heck I'm laughing as I'm writing this lol).
Let's see what happens when you stick CJ.herO (the real herO, not your liquid fanboy) in nothing but international tournaments and have him face Taeja...lol herO would smash him 80% of the time.
In short...to be truly consistent you must do well (but not always win) consistently vs the best Korean players (not foreigners). soO easily takes the cake here IMO.

Sigh.
Let´s see:
WCS Global Finals (where you had enough time to prepare) Taeja beat soO and Innovation.. Winner and runner up of GSL season 3 2014
IEM Torronto Taeja beat Zest
IEM Shenzen Taeja beat Zest and Life and actually won the whole thing.
IEM WCS Taeja beat Life
Dreamhack Winter 2013 Taeja beat Innovation sOs and Life (2times)
DreamHack Bucharest 2013: Taeja beats sOs Life and Inno
WCS Season 2 Finals Taeja beats Inno and stomps Rain 3:0
GSL 2013 Season 1 Taeja made it to the Semis by beating Nestea Inno (seems like he always wins against our most recent GSL winner) DRG and Soulkey
Taeja definitely only wins against Foreigners and bad Koreans right? He is definitely not Code S Material by beating GSL winners time and time again.
Being a good player also means winning Weekend Tournaments. If it would have been that easy why didnt those elite Koreans win those tournaments when going to one? soO your 4 time GSL runner up got stomped by Solar at Dreamhack.
Look all those players you mentioned are great players actually they are currently the Elite players (though half of them are in a slump) but I fail to see how they are THAT much better than Taeja
Btw you know where cjherO was in Season 3 last year? Code A. Season 2 he did not get past the round of 16. By your definition that would mean he is not consistent right? ACTUALLY if i go by how you see it cjherO is also "just" a weekend tournament warrior since he never won a GSL NEVER was in a GSL final and only won IEM tournaments.
In the past few pages no one said anything about Taeja being the best player there is just that he is indeed Code S material and that one season is not enough to judge him since he has made it far in previous GSLs.
Flash is 5-0 or 6-0 vs Taeja recently, and Flash is average at best in SC2. His true potential shines in Brood War but this not the topic. Jim defeated Taeja in some tournament. PigBaby defeated Taeja to win WCS America. Taeja lost to Major in WCS America. Taeja lost to a lot more. Rain defeated Taeja like 5-0 or 6-0 when he first joined SC2 Pro scene. You must really love Taeja since you remembered every detail of him, congrats man!

Might as well just stick to playing online random matches and international spring marathon tournaments...lol. (which is what TeamLiquid did to build up Taeja "Hype Train")
Your quote: "Taeja on form can beat anyone." So are you saying Taeja was not on form last night for the GSL? Well I can say the same when soO, Zest, and Innovation lost to him...they were not on form. What's your point? o.O
Here's the thing .don't make excuses for any of their losses. They lose and move on, that's it. If they played badly and were not on form...then how are they the best player?
Flash is consistent. He has consistently lost his last 11 games.
When he was winning 11 games in a row a couple of months ago did you make any smart ass posts like this?
No worries. The flash we saw recently was really really bad. I mean like WTF bad. Messing up double proxy rax into bunkters 2 times or 3 times in a row and not knowing that you can't just outmacro a Zerg in SC2 anymore shows he is extremely off these days. So either he does something besides playing SC2 or if he still is focused on SC2, he will return.
Every player has his slumps from time to time. I remember when I foresaw life winning tournaments because he was the first zerg that started MICROING units. And he did. But then, after a few wins and impressive matches, he just went "underground" not achieving anything... and now? He is considered one of the best Zergs again.

Rain defeated Taeja like 5-0 or 6-0 when he first joined SC2 Pro scene. You must really love Taeja since you remembered every detail of him, congrats man!
But um...what is your point exactly?
hmm and Taeja is the one I remember having the PERFECT Tournament... both Flash and Taeja had their results, but maybe Terran is too predictable so they get figured out shortly after they reinvent their style over and over again.

Lol i looked that stuff up. Not that hard.
Taeja 6:1 vs Flash. And it was actually in a period of time where Flash was winning a lot. He won IEM Torronto against Zest in the finals if you wanna know.
My point is since you still seem not to be able to understand is that Taeja is, despite what you say Code S Material. He has made the semis twice something cjherO for instance didn´t do since you seem to like to bring him up.
If you are gonna say herO is consistent because he made the Round of 8 once and the Round of 16 twice in GSL and won a bunch of IEMs and then go on and say Taeja is not consistent because he never was in a GSL final and only wins weekend tournaments you are a hypocrite and just hate him for the sake of hating.
Like I said numerous times and this is the last time I am gonna say it. Nobody is saying Taeja is way better or just better than the Kespa Koreans. But he can hold his own and trade wins with them easily.
No...Terran is not too predictable...it's the game...StarCraft 2 itself. It is nothing like Brood War. Everything is completely simplified in StarCraft 2 and the Units make it very hard to harrass and micro and players are usually forced to fight at 200.
The game itself, StarCraft 2, is the reason there is no best player in StarCraft 2. Anyone can LOSE to anyone, at any given time. Which is the reason for the closer gap between professional foreigners and profession Koreans.

Actually the gap between Foreigners and Koreans SC 2 is pretty big especially between Foreigners and the Kespa Koreans. Only Snute and Bunny right now can somehow take maps of them and in the end they still lose

I'm pretty sure Bly beat Rain not too long ago, so foreigner > kespa korean upsets can happen more than you think.

How about this, my "friend"...Taeja has yet proved to be consistent vs the best of the best in Korea (I'll keep things simple for you). Let's give him this entire year to see how he does in Korea (if he even stays in Korea, but my bet is once he does poorly TeamLiquid will pull him out and tells him to play more International Tournaments, easier money of course for Taeja and TeamLiquid).
This is common sense if you have a business standpoint in mind.
And yes Taeja is consistent...in International Tournaments only. Until he does well in the Korean scene this year, he is not consistent vs KESPA pros.

The thing is, herO has proven himself in big tournaments vs Koreans before. In IEM WC and Kespa Cup he faced only Koreans and reached the finals with outstanding play. He even crushed Top Korean terrans at a time everyone was crying TvP imbalance. He has done this. That's why he gets so much praise even without special GSL achievements.
Best out of 1 or 3...any KESPA pros can lose to any professional foreigner at any Random Marathon Tournament. Best out of 10...completely different story...hence consistency is what counts.
Best out of 3 or 5 in a preparation tournament (e.g. GSL), good luck foreigners. Their chance of foreigner winning has reduced dramatically due to the fact that you have time to prepare for a specific opponent, hence Taeja's weakness and he can never be considered a Top 10 player if he cannot CONSISTENTLY prepare well for his opponents.

I know i know^^ it is just that he keeps saying consistency is and telling me he has to be in a gsl final or win one and the goes and lists herO who has not been in a gsl final
To me it seems like he has some kind of grudge against Taeja :D

nope...just putting a shining light bulb on blinded fans. I think a lot of them were heart crushed last night...I don't take sides but I give respects to where they're dued. You see how Flash and Jaedong were monstrously good in Brood War...yet I consider Flash average in SC2 and Jaedong mediocore. I would never mention them as Top 10 players, maybe Top 20 for Flash and Jaedong Top 50.
I consider Taeja top 3 or 5 for International Tournaments. In Korea...he is Top 30 in my eyes. Again, I give respects to where they're due...and I don't exaggerate or take sides of players (unlike them biased american casters, lol!)
I dont really think any of the fans are heartbroken. I know i am not. Sad a lil bit that he couldnt make it through this season, but there are still 2 gsl and ssl seasons left. And 3 kespa cups if i am not mistaken
