Idk. MC is a real beast at prepared matches.
I'm only surprised that he got through qualifiers. After that he can get ro8 to stay in code s forever.

Also some people can't perform well under pressure and some play better when it is all on the line.

BTW we had an disagreement in the group announcement thread about MC being the weakest player in the group, how'd that go?

I didn't say he is the weakest player in the group (cause i have/had no idea about penguin), i said rogue and fantasy are better.
MC advancing didn't change this opinion at all.
GZ to MC i guess, he is still worse than 2 of the 3 other players in that group

From the thread

"The only thing that makes the group "weak" is the fact that MC plays in it"

Yeah as i said, i didn't know much about penguin so i didn't include him as "weak".
My point was/is that MC doesn't belong in a ro16 of code s these days, GZ that he made it regardless though

Seriously, this is a GSL season with all seed erased and everybody getting through qualifiers. he qualifies for Ro32 and then he goes out first of his group, he totally belongs to ro16 wether you're liking it or not.

As someone said a long ago : Vae victis.

So? These qualifier groups weren't balanced at all. I am sure you wouldn't say that the best 32 players advanced, right?
It will take a few seasons till we have a stable ro32 again, that's only natural.

he totally belongs to ro16

Well i disagree, MC is not a top 16 player, he isn't even a top 32 player. I obviously could be wrong (and he really is in top form RIGHT NOW when it matters), but his stats over the last few months indicate that i am right tbh.
Maybe he does really well this gsl and next gsl/ssl, then i will change my opinion, the results so far don't prove anything though imo. (as i said before, the gsl group system helped him a lot, let him play vs fantasy/rogue first and we probably see a different outcome, same for round robin)

His style is coming back around into the meta too I think. Granted he didn't play against top talent today, but he's still as good as ever at ridiculously piercing all ins. Zerg is pretty weak against toss atm and Terran is pretty damn strong in the mid game against toss so he just tries to end it fast which really isn't a bad play. I mean if you aren't completely prepared for that Immortal all in you are just dead.

Not in sc2

The hell? Okay, even granting that most of MC's big accomplishments are in the past way before Fantasy switched. Even post-Kespa Fantasy hasn't done a whole lot to distinguish himself. He was basically in the same boat as MC, a guy who could only occasionally show you glimpses of greatness. Only, MC has a bit more of an excuse what with traveling abroad for so long and not having a team to practice with. There may have also been a little burnout due to playing sc2 for so long.

Fantasy was on SKT for most of his sc2 career and still usually looked mediocre at best despite being the one with something to prove in this new environment. Which tbh, was even surprising to me as I predicted him to be the best Kespa player to switch over.

I don't even think it would be too outlandish to say Fantasy is probably in the best form of his sc2 career currently and it's still not enough to beat MC.

Oh MC, show them who's the real boss of Korea

Imo, he should be considered a legend like Mvp is. + MC is actually still relevant after all these years

You are just wrong IMO. I know this group was pretty weak but MC is so much better at being able to prepare for a player versus tournament style which is really what he has been focusing on. It was surprising he got through qualies to me but now that he has time to prepare a specific all in or what have you for his next match really does increase his deadliness.

MC is the most consistently good Starcraft player in SC2. He was there at the start and he's there now and he still has the skill level to beat any opponent he faces. He may not be 'the best' player for a lot of the time but to say he's not in his place at Ro16 is just strange.

It obviously doesn't really matter what i think about mc, he legitimately won today, i very much doubt that this will be enough though against "better" players (note: i think fantasy IS better than mc, just not today against mc's style)

So close... being 1 match away from winning twice must really be tough. I am glad that Rogue made it through though. I just wish MC and Fantasy could've switched spots.

MC making it out is the least surprising thing of the year. But Fantasy losing is a huge upset. I can't believe he threw those games. Totally fantasy's loss.

I don't think he's a beast at prepared matches, MC just played the way he usually plays he builds a lot of stalkers , other players were nervous and playing considerably worst than they usually do, that Spire penguin built when he saw an immortal all in coming was so puzzling.

PS: I only saw the first 2 series

I' like to argue, that ForGG qualifying for WCS EU is the least surprising thing of the year.

I think he was best around 2nd round of previous season proleague. After apparently practiciing hard he went 3-2 in that round winning against Life, Sniper and RorO but loosing to herO (Ace match) and Creator. At the time that was very solid result.
