Wow didn't realize it starts so soon!

What will region qualifiers be based on? Will ForGG qualify for EU, Polt for NA etc?

I like having some seeding for top foreigners (edit: maybe it's not for foreigners, rather to make sure Flash/Jaedong etc gets to play), Stephano/Naniwa playing in GSL was really exciting.

Don't like the top heavy prize structure, 4 times as much for the winner is very harsh imo.

Overall very excited for this! Who will be the english casters, Wolf and Brendan?

Top heavy prize structure is how most Koreans want it though.

A little sad that it lasts for almost 4 months. Its not as exciting when you have to wait 2 weeks for the next game to be played imo.

So hyped. Is the Challenge Round going to be played in the Nexon Arena as well? Or is it an online stage?
Now, I can change almost anything.

That just means Flash is gonna win it, since he has time to prepare for all of his opponents like in the old OGN Starleagues.

I dont like those global seeds but since they need to be present in the studio it doesnt mean much right?

Also with the challenge phase taking place that soon, will it be played on a whole new map pool or on the old one?

You just show up at Nexon Arena. Was there for Kespa Cup and it was all free, no tickets needed.

The winner receives four times more prize money than the runner up and more than half of the whole prizepool. Like in every other Korean tournament...

Other than that pretty excited for it. Interesting to see how the concept "Global Seed" will turn out.

I don't get it, how many regional qualifiers for foreigners and where do they feed into?

How many slots for each region?
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

As I understand it, one for each of the regions mentioned in the OP (Asia, Europe, America, World). Might be wrong though.

Wait, how do they determine the difference between 9-12th and 13-16th for prize pool purposes? That's pretty odd.

I wonder if they find enough people (4 that is) that even are willing to go to Korea for 4 months. I could imagine a few chinese/taiwanese players would do it, but else? Reminds me of GSL earlier, they tried to get more foreign players too and had that player house, which worked for a while.

Well it would be less than 4 months if the players lose immediately I guess. But else, going home after every round sounds a little expensive.

how do they determine 17th-24th and 25th-32nd? o_O
it's a single Bo5 match, it should only be 17-32, right?

edit:actually, they said they wouldnt give point at all after 16th place

Scarlett and State probably would. Hell any foreigner who's talked about going to Korea for a few months of training (I believe Snute mentioned it) would probably line it up appropriately if offered. I'm not exactly sure who would go on the EU side though

EDIT: Also something about the possibility of Jim/MacSed/Has being in a premier league really excites me

The real difficulty for NA / EU is that WCS is now fully offline from the Ro. 32 onwards. Going to get expensive if they want to challenge in both.

In 2014 there was a rule that points are awarded only for players who advance at least one round so I imagine that invited players who will not do any progress in the tournament will not get any points.
Is it how it will work in 2015?

I wonder if they find enough people (4 that is) that even are willing to go to Korea for 4 months. I could imagine a few chinese/taiwanese players would do it, but else? Reminds me of GSL earlier, they tried to get more foreign players too and had that player house, which worked for a while.

Well it would be less than 4 months if the players lose immediately I guess. But else, going home after every round sounds a little expensive.

State, Scarlett, Snute and Dayshi want to go to Korea. Some players from iG want to go to Korea too.

Okay, why does State want to go back to Korea? He was there, on a decent team, and seemed to have no noticeable improvement and I don't remember him winning anything at all. I don't think that's what's best for him.

Foreigners should play qualifiers if they want to participate, the koreans need more regular tournaments, so don't want to see a spot wasted by inviting a foreigner who gets destroyed in Ro32 anyways

Pretty sure State still is in Korea, living in the Axiom house?

One of the invites must be scarlett, it makes perfact sense: she was hinting about an upcoming tournament, she was already planning to go to korea in 2015, it all fits!

Great news, even if the qualifier rules are a bit complicated but I like the idea of having a small chance to cheer for foreigners in Korea like the good old times of Naniwa or Jinro.

Regarding the prize pool, it seems to me that there is a small drop in cash. Last year GSL was $167,6k (for Code A+S), this year SSL+GSL = $158k. Do the $90k announced for GSL takes the Code A into account? I know there is still 3 Kespa cups to be announced, but I doubt they will have a $78k prize pool each like the one of this year. Do we know if there will be a GSL championship or a Hot6 cup in 2015 (or are more details to be annouced int he near future)?

And presumably, the regional qualifiers will start in Season 2, since God knows there isn't enough time to arrange that now.

Yeah i know, but i mean in 1 season its like u are playing in WCS EU and NA in 2014 at same time, it would be so unfair for foreigners, so it would be only fine if a player can play either GSL or SSL in 1 season. Otherwise the region lock made no sense at all.

But GSL and SSL has no region lock at all! If foreigners feel they are worthy enough, feel free to try.

And if you think this way: total no of points is the same. If anyone can pull a SoO/Zest at WCS Foreign, they can qualify for Blizzcon!

Qualifier
- 11am (KST) 2014-12-11 / Live stream at the YouTube Channel

Does that mean there will be no twitch.tv broadcast? That would really be a shame, at least for me and other Germans, since Youtube livestreaming is not available in Germany.

There are lot of possibilites... you could make it S2S for Starcraft 2 Starleague if you wanna keep it 3 letters. Else simply SC2SL should be short enough and does the job too, or am I wrong?

I'm thinking of a potential scenario with even less from qualifiers starting in season 2, because 28 ppl playing Ro32 won't work if it's single-elimination so it might end up like

potential season 2 Ro32: 4 season 1 quarterfinalists + 12 from qualifiers
potential season 2 Ro16: 4 season 1 semifinalists + 8 from Ro32 + 4 global seeds

though, i think why call it Ro32 if you have people seeded in Ro16 which makes Ro32 not a real Ro32.... >.>;;;

Gotta love the horribly top-heavy prize pool (sarcasm).

It's so humorous that Koreans would desire such a prize pool when the competition is so strong and how much luck there can be in SC2. Well whatever, not like it affects me any...

It is also many times harder to succeed in either of the leagues, let alone both. There's a tradeoff between difficulty and rewards, and the Korean dual league system seems rather fair in that light. Besides, anyone who wish to participate may attempt to do so by participating in the qualifiers.

Ah, so the "cause schedules" was supposed to mean "due to scheduling conflicts we will not have a EU seed this time, and reroute that to an extra spot in qualifiers".... okay.

but yea, source plox. gotta see it myself to believe it.

On the one hand, it would be quite nice to diversify the scene a bit - to have 2 separate sets of Ro. 16 players for example would double the exposure available, and avoid the "problem" of seeing Zest, soO, Rain etc. in both tournaments, especially in a time when the Korean scene is so packed with talent all down the roster.

On the other, I admire the mindset that you have to be the best to get recognised.

Personally, I do think that it's a problem that it's so tilted towards the top end in Korea in terms of televised matches at the moment, if only for the developing scene. I'd love to see Code A back as a proper tournament

They announced that there will be no European seed this time. And there'll be 29 players from the qualifier.

Source on that?

it's on this article. Even if you can't read Korean, you would find "29".

yea I can't figure out how this format is supposed to be for season 2 and 3, and I'm trying to program it into WCS Predictor lol

you have to be in korea for like 4 months... so if a foreigner wants to make money he has to win the whole tournament. But tbh I can understand why they want to exclude foreigners if they expect non-koreans to be like Idra or naniwa

My best guess is this:

Easiest to work backwards.
4 semifinalists from S1 are seeded directly into the Ro. 16, so 12 players come from the preceding round.
This suggests that the previous round is a Ro. 28 (6 groups of 4, plus the 4 in the Ro. 16), of which 4 are from the S1 Ro. 8

So this means that Challenger is made up of:
4 Ro. 16 seeds (skipping Challenger games)
4 Challenger seeds
4 Global seeds
16 Qualifiers

How the 24 players from S1 Challenger and Ro. 16 fit into the S2 qualifiers is going to be weird (seeded in so fewer qualifying matches possibly?). And how 4 players are going to be seeded into 6 groups fairly is puzzling.
The whole system is pretty mental unless there's something I'm missing

I did it by changing the ro16 to a ro20 lol, 4 groups of 5 players each, round robin, 5th place in the group gets no points
it'll have to do for now I guess, although I feel uneasy about how the seeded player might not get points for the next season even though maybe they're supposed to, but if I give points to 5th place then it increases the number of points that the tournament gives, so that's wrong too
hopefully they tell us how it's gonna work soon lol

Can somebody explain what "Region qualifier for foreign players to participate Korean tournament" means? Are there foreign qualifers?

And what is the "Global invitational for seeded players"?
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Hoping for him to be on a good shape to save eSports from PvP finals.

Does anyone know if the "challenge" part of this event also takes place in the Nexon Arena and is open for audience?
Thank you.

As a follow-up question to dendrofil, what time is the challenge part of the event taking place?

According to the OP of this thread:
Round 32 Challenge / Bo5
- December 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th / 7pm (KST) 3 games for day
- December 26th / 3pm (KST) 4 games for day

But according to the teamliquid wiki: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2015_StarCraft_II_StarLeague_Season_1/Challenge
The event on the 26th is at 7pm (KST) same as the other events.

Thanks again
