FAQ
What is DingIt?
DingIt is a new streaming platform. It uses an optimized streaming protocol, so end users see a lag-free and buffer-free stream using far less resources (including bandwidth) than any other live streaming or VOD site on the web. More details about the company can be found on www.dingit.tv
As we are a new platform, we would love to know your feedback! Please take a moment to reach out either in a comment here or via Twitter (@dingittv), it would be very much appreciated!
A DOWNLOAD? REALLY? WHY?
DingIt uses our own unique streaming protocol, which provides a better quality stream using MUCH less bandwidth. Our proprietary platform includes a unique video player that you'll need to download to see the stream. Like Netflix or Flash, its a one time download that will update automatically as we make improvements to it.
For more information about the player, please see: Softpedia Review
NEW STREAMING PLATFORM? Where is the money coming from??!! Please take a look at the further details on TL or on the main page. Dingit (Dingmedia Ltd.) is owned by a much larger firm (OC Shield) who do all the development in house!
Are the players getting paid?!?!?! They sure are! And on time! For the last DingIt event, all involved were paid within 24 hours!
Any other panic?! Please post your question here, we will respond as soon as possible!

Really looking forward to the Prime league - some great players involved and really glad that DingIt could help you out!
|
I like how you're making sure you're not some shady business, and that you're aware that people are skeptical. hopefully its successful
|
The having to download an extra streaming platform is... a bit discouraging.
|

The player is essential to DingIt being able to provide a better quality stream while using less bandwidth. I hope you give it a try and see that the quality, lack of buffering and general smoothness makes it worth it!
Also, if for whatever reason you hate it, it is really easy to uninstall (in programs, listed as "infinite HD"). The Player is also reviewed by Softpedia and clean of any virus, spy/adware or anything nasty!

em i kinda like it can see alot better then on twitch and like the keyboard idea.

I think it's a mistake to trade whatever amount of money Dingit will be sponsoring you guys for in exchange for changing streaming platforms. You were starting to get some decent traction on twitch, I know I saw a couple broadcasts at the end of last season with impressive numbers, and I feel like you're giving up all that momentum by swapping platforms. People will not be quick to download a video player to watch your casts.
I'm sure the rationale is, "we're small and we're not making that much cash on twitch and well if it doesn't work we can always go back to twitch", but let me tell you from experience of swapping to owned back in the day, that's not as easy as it sounds. In the early days of BaseTradeTV we got partnered with Curse and switched to owned, and after it all blew up and we came back to twitch it was straight up agonizing trying to rebuild a viewer base.
You guys have fun (OFTEN LOUD) production , a great player roster, and experience from previous seasons. I think your tournament will be great no matter where you run it, but it'll be a shame if nobody knows about it or sees it due to the platform. This isn't a post to shit on dingit, this isn't a post to change your minds, it's just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you do

People are skeptical of ASL? With 2 Seasons under belt and all players paid? I thought we had an amazing reputation. Oh no. Now I am a little sad.

Thanks for your feedback sir Rifkin.
I do appreciate your advice, since your a veteran of this community. Quote from Sabre: "I feel the partnership with DingIt is mutually advantageous, together, we are helping each other grow. This opportunity is just what the ASL needed to become a more prominent figure in the community. I really do love the features of DingIt and in many ways I feel its superior to Twitch. That being said, its still in beta so not everything is perfect. But given time, I really do believe DingIt can be the main competitor force to Twitch giving the gaming and streaming industry much needed healthy competition.
I am a bit concerned about the viewer base, but I work extremely long and hard to perfect my streams and production. I feel any true fan of the ASL will follow us wherever we go. "
|
I'm excited to see how Dingit really works! I checked out the page a little bit, it seemed confusing at first, but that might just be because its completely new to me. Either way, I <3 ASL and will continue to compete in it as long as I have a home there <3<3<3 Good Luck with Dingit, it's of course a risk but risks can bring rewards right? Of course, at least I know I'll always link to anything I'm playing in cuz I want everyone to watch me play, I'm sure the other players would be doing the same!

Thanks! We are trying to sponsor and help a wide range of events, tournaments and streamers across all of eSports and gaming.
This week will also see the announcement of some cool opportunities for every streamer to try and get some extra $$$

And i followed you on it too madals Look forward to watching some broadcasts on it, from what I can see this has the potential, if the users show up, to be amazing.

i think she trying different ideas in zvt also she could just be in a bit of a slump after iem she will finally have some time off to rethink how she plays terran as that has been her downfall.

she is ahead but muta swith with no AA?
Edit she is fine

Huh, I thought that was going worse for Scarlett. Queen/infestor/roach is actually decent.

wow ok that was a nice game u have to admit
|
I've been having a lot of annoying freezes with the player, necessitating a fair few refreshes, and I don't like how it seems to randomly automute, but these have been extremely exciting games, so people are making a grave mistake if they're writing this off just because it's not on Twitch.

Shut me right the heck up... that GG timing.

if scarlett survive to BL she win

GG and now rematch vs kelazhur i hope scarlett rekt him now
|
|
losing those queens to the ling muta was basically gg. Queens take so long to build and hyun needed those early queens to have energy to transfuse. As soon as hyun lost those queens his timing window was gone. Scarlett played perfectly with the mutas, she obviously new exactly what hyun wanted to do and new what she had to do to shut it down.

any suggestions ? why the hell do i have to download some plugin to be able to watch flash video ...? it is now asking to communicate with my pc..... no offense but i am uninstalling this crap.

Sorry to hear you are having issues!
What OS are you using? The player itself has been downloaded 130million times through various partners and only a small % have an issue, but we are happy to help debug it for you Since you are getting terrible quality, seems like you may be one of the few unfortunate people with an issue. (feel free to PM me if you don't want the information public btw)
As to why you need the player, it is because DingIt uses UDP rather than TCP as the streaming protocol, this allows a higher quality stream while using less bandwidth, minimizing buffering and massively reducing stream delay. Flash unfortunately doens't work nicely with UDP.

So i was watching this Tourney last season bit... Quality stream on twitch, some minor issues. I was hyped for the new season and was amazed by the line-up of players ... sadly i couldn´t watch more than 10~minutes of it until today. The stream just never loads and i only see an Screen showing the ASL sign and some sponsors. I tried connecting to the dingit website directly... even deactivated my add-block some commercial came and after that... just a gray screen. (Also every few minutes - the site pops up a window, asking you to sign up / in... which is more than annoying.)
Then i thought " i should give them feedback about my Problem".... but i have to have an account on their website in order to send feedback. An account i don´t need and which i won´t create just to tell them, their system isn´t working proberly.
Sadly i won´t be able to follow this really exciting tournament anymore.

So... I just got home to watch... and the site says I need to sign in or sign up to watch. I hate to say it, but this streaming service is fucking terrible. Not that twitch is good, but this is just... awful.
|
the whole dingit thing has nothing to do with the quality obviously, it's about competition and breaking the monopoly but to be honest you guys should have come up with a more user friendly solution, i couldn't watch anything yesterday because of plugin crap and VoDs are not there, i don't know it would be, it's a crappy service to the fans of the actual progamers. I speaking for myself don't watch the streams for the casters, i watch them for the players and you are ruining the experience.

Interesting from Masa. Outside of dropping behind the rock shenanigans, I would never have thought that deadwing would be a good map for marine tank. Especially cross spawn.

Seriously madals. I know it's been said over and over, but you're running what could be a great tournament and you're throwing it away with this joke of a player. It's barely functional and very sketchy. It would even be so bad if the Vods even worked on the site. Put them on youtube or something please.

I am sorry I have to agree with this which kinda sucks, never rally paid attention to this tournament before but you were able to really put a sick lineup together which I imagine could not have been easy, watching for the first time it looks amazing production wise and hearing tempo cast i find really enjoyable. but jumping to this site so fast may have done to much damage to asl for you to recover lost fans and viewers. with that said thank you for putting the time and effort of bringing these tournaments together.

You mention it is barely functional, what issue are you having with the player? It is wsorking fine for me and many others!

Well I guess barely functional is an overstatement, but you keep claiming that it's "higher quality" which is a complete lie, the frame rate stutters far worse than twitch, the quality control made my stream crash twice, and the vods system is broken. The fact that you have to download an extra addon is just the icing on the shit cake.

Thanks for getting back to me. Re the quality, can you watch the rerun from last night here: http://www.dingit.tv/channel/asl/28824 and let me know what the quality is like. There were definitely frame rate issues on the first two days of the ASL event, although they were on the broadcaster side and our tech team helped them fix it!
The VOD system is now fully functional, as I linked it to you there. There was indeed an error with the VODs on day 1 and 2 of ASL, that has now been corrected and we are manually recording all eSports event as a backup for the next few shows just in case so the VODs don't get lost. The lack of VODs from the first two days were a mistake, unfortunately we cannot recover them.
The quality controls crashing your stream is one I cannot answer, I do not have that issue nor has anyone else commented on this. If you can replicate, please send support (or me via PM) your OS, browser and exactly what you did and I will get tech to look into it as it shouldn't be happening.
Please do let me know about the quality of the VOD I linked though, as the frame rate issue should be completely fixed now and to me it looks fantastic!

Barely functional describes the player well, in my opinion. Requiring a plugin nowadays is bad enough, then failing to deliver puts it squarely underneath the threshold of disappointment.
The sound is fine, but the video is stuttering all the time even on Low. I don't think Dingit is ready for primetime yet. I was watching Twitch streams both before and after ASL at high quality without any issues so I'm inclined to call it as 'not on my side'.

Ran the .exe. It did something ridiculously quick without even an installation window, and then disappeared. And the videos on the website still don't play in any of my browsers. The uninstallation only popped up a box that claims it's been removed from my system.
So thanks for the virus I guess. Now I have to wonder what the hell you did to my computer.

So far I've been impressed with the picture quality and smoothness, but I keep running into inconsistency with the sound, especially with muting and unmuting randomly. I have to refresh the page fairly frequently. Other than group F, I've been liking most of the games too.

Dear ASL organizers. I wont install anything to watch some SC2 tournament.
Me installing anything will never help with your lagg issues, i suspect your third party installer to simply be here to collect my cookies and browsing habits (which is not a default in itself, i know how it works its what i'm studying )

I hear no difference between 50% volume and 100% volume.
Video quality is great, though.
Edit: No show on the programs and features list, no show anywhere else, either. Spoke too soon, I guess. If you want us to install something for your stream, make it easy to uninstall, too.

Have raised the volume issue with the tech team!
RE the uninstall, it will show under your normal programs list as "InfiniteHD" by "octoshape" - if you cannot find it please let me know as that is where it should be!

Take a look at our FAQ about what the player actually does: FAQ
Specifically, the player doesn't collect your cookies or browsing habits, the only things it looks at are: - Location (via IP) - Stream viewed - Total stream viewing time - Platform information (eg. Windows, OSX, Android, iOS) - Viewing method (ie. SWF / Tray client) - Date & time of stream viewing

PARTING 4-0 TODAY! That's what my money is on.
|
|
My stream just randomly jumped from a game 1 Parting vs Pig canon rush to a couple minutes into a Parting vs Huk game in the 2nd game of their series. This seems like it was not intended.

|
Alright, game 2 of Pig vs Intense was pretty incredible. What's the VOD system like with Dingit? I want to nominate that one for recommended games of the week.

yup, last game was super fun to watch

Since your overlays don't have moving elements I was not able to tell that the stream froze, so I did not reload in time for the second game.

What's the music right now?

I'm confused. Is Group C still tonight (in 30 mins) or not?

I'm just getting the "broadcast will start in a few seconds" for several minutes whenever I try to watch this thing. Not worth the hassle.

Come on guys! This turnout was depressing. It was frickin Scarlett and Huk! I expect more turnout next round. The stream is exceptionally high quality, next to no lag, and the casters are actually interactive. Give it a chance!

I couldn't watch half of the games because of LAG and constant need of refreshing to go on. I would gladly throw away the quality for a continues stream. whenever I chose the low option, it went to some other random game or asked me for subscription. it's piece of crap.

It's a good show and good quality. I think the download is holding them back. I found it suspect too but I gave it a chance.

Who are the casters btw? One is temp0, isn't he? Sounds a lot like him at least

casters were good, good job by them. just the stream system is looking to be problem. at least the low/high resolution selection option would be good
|
do they provide replays of this?

littlekanin showed some great mech play vs huk. I think he would have been in better shape if he didnt go so overboard on banshees and made more tanks to defend his bases in the second game. interesting series nontheless.

Can't say I'm impressed by this Dingit thing. Poor framerate, plenty of artifacts, gamma seems off, not exactly worth installing a plugin for. Might be on the streamers end though.

We didn't have all the details at that time. All we knew was Jaedong contacted the Player Coordinator and said he has some personal issue and cannot make match 1 hour before it started. Ryung was given all the details we had at the time. We did not want to waste his time so we said he could leave we will be in touch because JD had some issue. The other player was just a no show and gave no contact to us. Therefore automatic forfeit.

Which you then reversed a day later. You can understand why that does not come across well.
What? We didn't forfeit Jaedong. We forfeited Sacsri. We told Ryung he can go and we will be in contact about match. There was no reversal sir.

This tournament is a fucking joke. Constant delays and absolutely no information given to viewers of the reasons, horrible downtime between matches, sub-par casters and observing, retarded scheduling, who tunes in for two bo5s or a single bo7 in a night? Only plus is that the actual dingit player works better than twitch. Keep the player scrap everything else.
|
This tournament isn't having much luck, at the very least.
@Elche, the player doesn't work properly either (at least over here). Twitch works much better. Ryung vs. Jaedong is up according to the calendar, anyone know what happened there?

Be very careful with statements you make publicly like that. We have the Skype logs showing that you did indeed forfeit Jaedong due to a personal situation he was having. Ryung showed up for his match on time. Jaedong did not. You told our player this and said he was done You then reversed the decision 5 hours later (decision made at 7am, reversal at 12pm KST) which confused and annoyed our player. This was further confirmed in the tournament in-game chat by a second ASL staffer. Now looking at these logs, at best, you used inaccurate language when talking to our player. At worst, you made an irresponsible claim which you later had to reverse. There is no forfeit, because you changed your decision, but to say that there was no reversal of your decision is false. Our player will compete, the match will happen, but I do not appreciate efforts to white-wash an administrative fumble on your part. If this kind of thing happens again, don't give a player a walkover which you then have to take back, ask about reschedule immediately. You throw players right out of their competitive mindset with things like this. Especially against an opponent like Jaedong, preparation is needed, don't jerk players around please.

TB laying the smack down. If more than 5 people gave a shit about this tournament this would be exciting.

I don't know who you have been talking to or what authority they claim to have But Sabre (ASL Director and founder) told Ryung in game that he can go and we will sort match details out later and be in contact with him. That evening Sabre asked Maru Kim (MaSa) to translate to Jaedong so we can officially determine if a rematch was valid or not. If you wish to discuss this with Sabre personally. Feel free to Skype him at Sabre24q7 or email him Sabre[@]ASLstarcraft[.]com In fact I highly recommend contacting him because this situation is getting out of hand and it seems you are getting your information from a bad source.
Thank you

Someone put up incorrect date. We are still scheduling. But its going to be January 1st at 14:00 PST most likely.

I know there has been some issues with communication, and as nobody outside of that communication knows the whole truth, I won't share my opinion as it could be based on wrong/missing facts.
BUT, one thing I will say is that the tournament has potential for some great stories and great games. It sounds like whatever issues were present need to be solved, even though that probably means either one or both parties need to meet in a compromise. Sounds unfair? Agreed, but forfeiting yet another player like this will really ruin the tournament, especially a profile like Jaedong.
I know it must suck for Ryung, if he is the victim of all of this, but as a viewer I would lose a lot of interest in the tournament if another forfeit happened, especially if based on misunderstandings. If viewers lose interest, so would the gains of winning, in terms of reputation, exposure etc.
I am hoping for parties to acknowledge each others issues with the other, and then agree to move on for the tournament's sake.
(one thing though ASL, please update dates, times etc. on Liquipedia, threads and other pages, as these wrong dates pose another big risk of losing the audience. I myself waited for an hour last night to watch the games, to no avail).
Good luck with the tournament.

thewhiskey you are a kind, smart forum member of the community.
There was a good amount of miss communication. I think we have cleared most of it up. End result is the Match will be played on Jan 1st 14:00 PST (adding to calendar now) And there were a few ADMIN blunders who gave out information that was incorrect. And frankly they did not have that level of authority to give out in the first place.
Out of 32 players only 4 have been disqualified, but the problem is 2 of them have been during playoffs. That is a killer. I always find it really hard to delete an event once you submit it. But at the very least we can just post in thread canceled and hopefully that will help.

We already reached the compromise for the reasons you gave. We didnt want Jaedong to have to forfeit due to a personal problem and we didnt want to deny the viewers what could be a Classic match up (see what I did there? Cos Ryung beat Classic in the GSL qualifiers, BADUMTISH). The problem we had was what was communicated to us.
We've since heard an explanation from ASL that explains why the left hand didnt seem to know what the right hand is doing and are satisfied with the response, so as far as I'm concerned the matter is settled.

Glad to hear things are worked out. I really liked the tournament so far. Production value was good, caster were great and the player pool made up some very enjoyable games. The Octashape client worked very well, expect for a few, minor exceptions. The lack of communication for the last few broadcast days was annoying, indeed. All this negativ feedback in here is a riddle for me. My personel experience was good, expect the minor exceptions. Everyone has some trouble from time to time

So....any news on the Journey - Parting match that was scheduled for today?
|
Sad News everyone. Journey did not show up to his match. We were forced to give PartinG a bye according to rules. Sorry we couldn't bring you a good match today. But lets look forward to Ryung vs Jaedong match on Jan 1st. New years StarCraft!
|
i have never heard of multiple players not showing up for a certain tournament like this
looking forward to the JD match, hopefully he wont party too hard and stay sober to play
|
Is this some kind of elaborate troll? 3/5 BYE in playoffs matches?? Please....
|
The debacle this tournament's become is karma for foisting Dingit Player on us.

The time is finally here! Jaedong vs Ryung ! Woooohooooo Good way to start 2015

damn i was looking forward to watching this today -.-

It's online as I just posted - do not miss it!
Would be cool if the ASL-team added a link to the event on the TL-frontpage.
|
Can't you PLEASE at least turn off colored health bars?
|
Finally! Yes, colored health bars are horrible.
|
bottom says 1-0, top says 0-0. pretty confusing.
|
are they playing ? whats going on? im on ipad and the dingit thingie doesnt work
|
|
this has to be the worst tournament i've ever seen. so many walkovers, 6 weeks long, for what? no wonder nobody wants to play
|
jaedong is dead. 20 supply behind with roaches
|
so i had to download a player to watch a series where jaedong is playing with one hand, and every other match is forfeited. can't say it's really satisfying
|
Wishing this was streamed on Twitch
|
@Poopfeast: Exactly my thoughts. Why don't they use Twitch? The casters are also not really good. Bad tournament in my opinion. Poor play from Jaedong.
|
What was the first map? Second Overgrowth, third King Sejong?
|
There's some writeup on why they're using the new platform on the first page of this thread. You can always read up on that if you're interested. Myself I dislike streams that need a player installed. The quality is ok/good though.

Guys, if you want viewers you really need to keep a link to the stream up on teamliquid. Getting good players and making fancy intro-videos really isn't all that important if you don't actually put up a link to the stream. A little sad for everyone missing a great match.

I think the first and the third game were pretty nice. Personal opinion I guess.

that was some lazy play by jaedong

Damn, did I miss JD getting rekt?
Edit: Nvm, just not on twitch.
Could have sworn I've seen some of this on twitch.

Unfortunate thing about this is that I watch SC2 from my android tablet, android phone, or smart TV. Or in some cases, school computers while study... Taking this into consideration, I can't download the software and can't watch Dingit, and thus can't watch this tournament.

Sorry about that. We had to reboot stream after game 1 (or was it 2). We didnt relink stream to TL during game 2 (or 3). Thanks for advice
